    Do you absolutely have to remove the cams to replace the cam seals on the vvti 1uz? I know on the non vvti this isn’t necessary.

      Yes, there’s no way around it.

    Question I'm going to be doing this job at my home. I have everything at TDC and want to change the camshafts. They are lined up single-dot to single-dot for both sides. But the FSM says to install the LH side double dot-double dot? Just want to make sure I have it right before removing. Would I be ok with removing the camshafts and re-aligning back to single-dot to single-dot TDC then putting on the belt?

    • @mkLexus
      @mkLexus  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Just make sure to take a lot of pictures of the original orientation of the dots beforehand. Then slowly remove. Then reversal to install everything. The single dots should always line up together. Be careful putting the cam caps back on, there is a torque sequence. You might as well install new cam seals. This is the only time you can do it

      @@mkLexus Thanks that gave me the confidence to try it. I had not a very good response before doing this. Is it safe to only remove the intake side? I plan on leaving the exhaust cam alone. You have been the only response about this i've had lol.

    • @mkLexus
      @mkLexus  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sivageist yes, it’s able to be done that way. I’ve seen a lot of coworkers do it that way. Only thing is, when you are removing the camshaft, you must slowly remove the cam caps, to prevent the shaft from snapping/cracking in half. Then slowly roll the camshaft outwards and away.

      @@mkLexus Hey DK removed the Caps completely on the intake side and loosened the ones on the exhaust cam but the intake cam doesn't want to budge. Every video I've seen they easily come out and mine is not budging and I don't want to force it. Is this normal?

    • @mkLexus
      @mkLexus  ปีที่แล้ว

      Does the ticking noise correlate with the acceleration? Does it tick faster as you increase the RPM?

      @@mkLexus yes it does

    • @mkLexus
      @mkLexus  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@user-mt1ne3kg7j It's difficult to say what it could be without proper diagnosis. I would grab a long flat head screwdriver or mechanics stethoscope and start probing it in safe areas to pinpoint the noise while engine is running. Who knows; it may be a bad tensioner pulley, water pump, or valvetrain. Have a professional diagnose it. I wish the best of luck. Keep me updated.

      What is it that you need help on? I would recommend just taking it to a reputable Toyota/Lexus shop or dealership. Atleast, you will be covered under their service/parts warranty. You can just purchase a 1 day service manual via Toyota/Lexus website and download/print the repair manual.
