Yup! Did what you said and colored hot and ground as I thought it might work. And this exercise helped me keep up with your explanations having studied it somewhat and gave me a deeper understanding right off the bat. It was like being prepared for the oncoming lecture. this is by far the best electrical diagram resource I have seen online and I watch a LOT of these videos. The suggestion to color the circuit ourselves first was key, then when you explain, it all comes together.

I started looking at this video today. This video is good I mean really good. I had a look at that July motor article too. Excellent article. The problem with the blower when only 4 and 5 speeds work is the fuse in between 3 and 4. If it was the blower it wouldn't work at any speed.

For those who don't want to go through the effort of finding a jpg file with the diagram, here's a quick way to do a screen grab on the Mac. Choose highest quality resolution, play the video in full screen, then hit pause when you want to make a still image. Then hit shift-command-3, all three keys at once. A png file will appear on the desktop, which can be modified in Photoshop to whatever format you want.
Great job. I would suggest more use of a pointing device when you're narrating because sometimes the viewer gets lost as to where in the diagram you're referring to. So it was great when the probe appeared for example to show the testing of resistors 4 and 5, but that could have been left on the screen for more than 1/2 second, and then prior to that it was sometimes difficult to follow where on the diagram the narrator was talking about. A cursor object would have been more helpful. Nevertheless thanks again. Hopefully also at some point in the series you will take these lessons and show the testing procedure in action inside a garage so the viewer can connect the classroom instruction to real life. Because you don't put the electrical probe to a piece of paper. Show the viewer, please, how to transfer the electrical diagram to the actual circuit in the automobile. I'm looking forward to watching the rest of the series.
Turn it to full screen, all text is readable. What part of the 4 resistors you had trouble with? About using power probe to find problem? He would point the probe to the 1st position on the resistor, turn the blower motor switch and see at which speeds probe finds ground. Then he would do the same for other resistor positions. And all the resistors are connected, so if no. 3 is burned out, blower works only in speeds 4 & 5 cause in speeds 1-3 current flow to motor stops at the burned resistor.
I think these lessons could be further enhanced if an actual electrical multimeter were used in the hypothetical testing instead of a PowerProbe. You can get a multimeter at Lowes, AutoZone, etc. for around 20 bucks or so, so it's much easier to get than a PowerProbe. I used to be pretty anti-PowerProbe several years ago cause I thought it was a crutch for people who didn't know how to do basic electrical testing. I've softened my stance on it somewhat now, but still kinda feel the same way.
1, 2 and 3 will have ground on the power probe only green light,but will not have power red light on the power probe, thus a broken connection in the blower motor resister.4 and 5 will have power (red) and ground (green) on the power probe. showing a complete path on the power and ground side thereby showing that the problem is in the blower motor resistor.

at 6:00, I don't see how the "HVAC CONTROL" sends ground to the "FRONT CONTROL MODULE". The diagram does not show any physical connection. According to the diagram, turning the control knob will only send ground to the right side of the relay (pin 87) . Please explain.
Nich, remember, they are both in DOTTED boxes which mean they are the same element , even if they are spaced apart. Once one activates so does the other. Hope this helped you
How do you know that the HVAC control sends ground to the front control module when switched on? I don't see an electrical connection there. Everything else was crystal clear!
In the beginning of the video you stated that the current would change depending upon the resistance, thereby changing the speed of the motor. Actually the Voltage is reduced depending on the number of resistors it is dropping across. Current draw remains the same. Ohms law.. Take any dc motor and try changing the voltage and see what happens.
Question. When the mechanical dial selector is turned to any of the speeds, Why is the front blower motor relay is colored Red and not Yellow. As I understand once the selector activates the ground that should be switched ground not direct ground. So, it should be yellow. Am I right or wrong?.
Maria Torres Red is direct power to relay and stop insides at open switch at all times. Orange is switched power feeds to motor when relay is energized with integrated ground as dotted lines means there more pins to it. Hope you understand what I meant.
Quick question, orange power runs through resisters so the power will be dropped drastically by the time it feeds motor right ? It looks like only switched ground is being run through the resisters to feed the motor. I'm kinda lost there. Technically switched power is only straight power to devices ?
Good video overall, but there is a mistake in the coloring. Not all the paths draw in yellow through the resistors should not be colored when you switch the rotary switch on. To be accurate it should only show the path connected via the rotary switch. e.g. #5 or #2 as shown in the video. Highlighting them all yellow implies that voltage is flowing through all of them which is not the case. Also, you misspelled resistors around 7:16:-)

Great video, at 5:48 he mentions that when the dial on the HVAC is turned to the #5 position that ground is supplied to the Front Control Module...how did he know that? I can't see how they are connected via the diagram. I know he states that control modules have more components than what is shown so would I have to go to the "Front Control Module" diagram to see how it's connected to the HVAC control? Someone please clear this up for me.

Good question. Remember this . . . all working circuits need power & ground. The front control module was supplied power but not ground (at rest). With power provided but no ground it could not operate. So, the logical answer is that the HVAC control must supply the ground. The ONLY other option would be for the HVAC control to supply power, but power and power will not complete a circuit so the load can WORK. Hope this helps.

I have a electrical schematic for a Howard Price 727 Turfmaster mower. The schematic does not look anything like the new schematics. This is for a 27 horsepower Yanmar engine. The unit had been taken apart (electrical) because the plug inside the panel from the frame had worn through the plastic. I need to rewire the entire unit (12 pin connectors from engine to panel). I need help to get the unit back to being functional. Any thoughts where I could get some help? The company is out of business and the Yanmar corporation doesn't have the manufacturers information other than parts numbers. Thank you. I'm in Reno, Nevada and need help.
sorry for delay. There are aftermarket companies that rebuild complete wire harnesses. Or do it yourself. Wires are like roads on a map. Each one starts at some point and leads to another point. If you take it completely out you should be able to rebuild it.
that to me sounds tantamount to saying "gear wrenches are for people that are too lazy to use standard wrenches. A multimeter is great if you need to ohm a circuit, a scope is great for graphing a waveform... but when neither of those are necessary the PowerProbe is THE tool to use for the professional technician
God morning teacher. I have situations dodge Dakota 2000. The a/c selector. Only working at the defrost. No working when you get the position to the front. What. Is would be the problem thanks you
the defrost position is the "default" position. That means if the selector is not working right it will stay in the defrost position and not move. You probably have a air door actuator not working

Go back and see what he says about connecting the Power Probe to the switch points to see which one has a GROUND and which ones don't. They will all have a ground when he turns the switch to that position, whether it's an open or shorted resistor, correct? Help me out on this one, Spelunkerd. Therefore this test tells us nothing. I think a tutorial on using the Power Probe wouldn't be a bad idea if it will be used in the lessons.
I have a brain twister for you. 05 Chrysler Town and Country 3.3 LX Vehicle stalled and they had it towed home. It cranks no start. Has no spark. I flip the key and get a list of codes from it. I’m thinking, what do all these codes have in common? I ck for power and grounds at sensors. All good. After checking power and grounds to pcm I order a replacement. Still no start. I bought a scanner with the ability to do actuator tests. No communication with pcm or fcm. I can communicate with all the other modules but these. I’ve used a headlight bulb to load test all the powers and grounds to the pcm. From what I see in the diagram, one should be able to communicate with it just with the C1 connector plugged in? If you or anyone else has any suggestions, please give me a buzz…… Thanks Oh, I was checking for 5vt reference signal at map sensor and discovered wires uncovered and making contact. I fixed these and was sure I found the problem….. nope… still no start. Fuel pump relay never clicks on but asd does.

Hi Daniel, yes the website is having issues. The hosting company is the problem. They have been bought out by a larger company that is supposed to be converting everything to their new company. They have screwed everything up and it is a real mess. I'm not happy with it at all but it is out of my hands. It looks like I will have to rebuild the site from scratch. I'm not sure it is worth it because all of the videos are on youtube. There were several links and diagrams on there. If there is something you want, I can send it to you directly, just let me know what you want .

after watching halfway through i finally why test the harness that connects to the load. to make sure it has power and ground.
I think the answer is this: the hvac and the front control module are both in dotted line boxes, so a lot of thing are missing.

Yeah I was wondering the same thing, how are you supposed to recognize a connection when it's not drawn in.

Vehicle stalled and they had it towed home. It cranks no start. Has no spark. I flip the key and get a list of codes from it. I’m thinking, what do all these codes have in common? I ck for power and grounds at sensors. All good. After checking power and grounds to pcm I order a replacement. Still no start. I bought a scanner with the ability to do actuator tests. No communication with pcm or fcm. I can communicate with all the other modules but these. I’ve used a headlight bulb to load test all the powers and grounds to the pcm. From what I see in the diagram, one should be able to communicate with it just with the C1 connector plugged in? If you or anyone else has any suggestions, please give me a buzz……

Oh, I was checking for 5vt reference signal at map sensor and discovered wires uncovered and making contact. I fixed these and was sure I found the problem….. nope… still no start. Fuel pump relay never clicks on but asd does.

The website for the diagrams has been blocked by chrome and the admins because there's reported phishing and deceptive adds related to password phishing and hacking credentials. Is there a new / updated site that anyone knows of? I need to get the schematics printed to go over in my classes.
Hi Daniel, yes the website is having issues. The hosting company is the problem. They have been bought out by a larger company that is supposed to be converting everything to their new company. They have screwed everything up and it is a real mess. I'm not happy with it at all but it is out of my hands. It looks like I will have to rebuild the site from scratch. I'm not sure it is worth it because all of the videos are on youtube. There were several links and diagrams on there. If there is something you want, I can send it to you directly, just let me know what you want .
