For me the video felt a bit extreme, since unlike any other of his videos there isn’t that easy “you can always leave” thing, since you are not only giving up your money, but someone else’s too, which creates lots of pressure and makes this feel closer to psychological torture from the guilt. My valuation is always lower incrementally the more time passes. If I get a chef for 10 days at $10k, day 1 would be more like 3K and day 2 would go 2k, day 3 for 1k and so on. So although the 10 days was worth 10k, 5 days does not worth 5k anymore. They payed so much for all the things they rejected initially. I would have kept the money.
Declining the initial chef severely distraught them, you can't underestimate the mental tax of one more month of being at wit's end when you probably can't go without a phone for 7. Accepting the chef's offer would force every following offer to be better, and give a severe boost to dealing w/ every day... Just enjoying a good meal would make it so much more palpable.
