It always amazes me when people go out to “ hear” music… but do nothing but talk… Why did you even bother… going out in the first place??? A great song… too bad he left us so early… R.I.P.🌻
Will that dude next to the camera SHUT UP?! You're in the presence of greatness and all you can do is talk though the guy's most beloved song as a solo artist...
Kurdt would get SOOOOOOO MAD at that when Nirvaner would so acoustic songs and stuff. It was the type of "Fan" of his band he hated. The same that would scream for SLTS even though they played it already
Magic. I feel sad that so many people cannot appreciate what greatness in music is. Johnnys singing and playing and song are perfection. Artistry of the highest order. Love you Johnny Thunders.
Artists have managers. Bob Dylan once said “if I’m booked to play somewhere, I just play” Johnny had a manager. He got bookings. This one looks like a side room of a Holiday Inn playing to 40 people. But it was filmed for a reason. Just because no one gets it, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try
Man it's the Gibus in Paris.... This venue is the real deal, my dad was at this concert, first row because he took photographs, I have one of these of Johnny on my wall, he looks beyond cool
It was enough to cop afterwards and that’s all Johnny cared about. He was homeless throughout the 80s and was always crashing at other people’s places.
the best way to hear this song for me, stripped back and raw but love it how he drops his plectrum and calmly bends down picks it up and carries on......priceless JT
I did see him play in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with Gang War. JT was out of it. It was NOT good. I have a large collection of his unofficial recordings. I have a copy of his show from the previous night in Minneapolis. If ANYONE has a copy of the Milwaukee show, I'd pay 1K for a copy. I was there, I remember it, you can't BS me with a substitute. Gang War July 31, 1980. Provide a copy and you'll get paid.
TWO HEARTS: " They talk when the music's playing They're quiet when the music stops They're so afraid of what they're saying EVERYBODY'S GOT TO STAY ON TOP YEAH, YEAH".
Fuckin true rock n roller, as the man himself said, I only need to cough and it's rock n roll, RESPECT!! I myself have the same substance issues which I can't seem to beat but hey ho, R. I. P JOHNNY gone but never forgotten, this song is getting played at my funeral!!
Don't think about your funeral! Don't give up on yourself. You CAN BEAT THIS! GET HELP! I mean, maybe you have gotten help and it didn't stick, right? So get help again. And again. Until is sticks. Ask God to step in and take over. Not a religion or set of rules, but that which is bigger than all that. Whatever it takes. The withdrawals are pure suffering and it's been shown that it's more likely to stick if you're weaned off with medications to make then withdrawal nit so horrible. Because it's really the fear of withdrawal that keeps a person desperate. Can you find a program that weans you off with muscle relaxants and anxiety meds, etc? They're out there. And methadone takes care of withdrawal. Then you have to go through counseling and get to the bottom of why you self medicated in the first place. Please don't give up. You do belong here. You do matter! Alive, on this earth. I don't know if you're supposed to write, or help others in a similar situation, but keep notes as you go through it this time so you can use it in the future to help people, to understand, to do something creative. But please believe in yourself and be kind to yourself and stop judging yourself. We're all equally flawed, and this thing is really a cruel master. Please don't give up!
Yet another Rock n Roll tragedy. Nice song! Johnny Thunders, Sid Vicious, Janis Joplin, Amy Winehouse, Andrew Wood, Shannon Hoon, Paul Kossoff, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Amy Winehouse, Dee Dee Ramone, etc. what did they all have in Common? Drugs!
The Gibus in Paris right? Dad was right in front of Johnny, I have a pic of him taken by my dad on my desk from this very show, he saw him many times in Paris back in the days...
This looks like it was taken before everything starting going downhill fast. I've been listening to those stories with him and Dee Dee Ramone, beating up and stealing for their habit even getting gigs..
Guys, don't laugh but guess where I heard this great song first ? Back in '93, GNR covered this on their so-so covers album "Spaghetti Incident ?". It was quite good. Then I heard the original and it blew me away. What more can I say ?
Typical: musician playing, nobody paying attention, taking, being rude. The difference here is that this is a fucking genius legend, but they have no clue
I love this song so much. I've known it for, 4 years now? I'm 10 and I discovered it when I was 6. (And later found out it was in the dirt (motley crue movie) and lost my crap) and then the other day I googled him and found out he deaddd
Are you kidding me. His eyes are hollow, ghastly expression, gaunt, he is totally strung out on coke and heroin as usual and it didn’t help him perform. For over a decade music was a punch in clock for money. If he could make more money cashiering a Walmart he would have, after about 1978. But music to him was a way to collect a thousand dollars for a few hours of work. Go to a studio, make an unlistenable album, collect a 20k advance. Get high, get high, get high, fall asleep under a tarp in an alley, pawning his guitar, stealing someone else’s guitar, another advance at an indie label…. A la Johnny thunders. What a life.
What’s sad ? a talented junkie phoning it in for dope money....which sizes up most(not all) of his post Dolls output after the Heartbreakers and “So Alone”.......RIP Johnny.
great vid but he looks really gone. WTF. leave the smack alone. I use to sing this song to some women I'D date. They loved it and if they thought I wrote it for them I was not gonna argue with them
One of a kind....no BS music here. A genuine rocker 💪👌
This is one of the best songs ever written. It’s sad to see people not appreciate the talent he was.
according to Sylvain, Bob Dylan told him he wish he had written it...
I loved that it popped up in the Sopranos - a whole new generation heard it
@@defragsbin I don't remember that what season? Wow can't believe that went over my head

Sad he destroyed himself. Signed the only person that ever touched his guitar while he was performing (Gibson) and lived to tell the tale.
think this about sums it all up. unappreciated genius.
Absolutely. One of the best songwriters of all time. In my top two, other being John Frusciante.
Freaking amazing song and crazy it sounds better than the record.
Welcome to humanity. You do, so, we win.
Johnny always had that guitar close. You can tell that he loved playing. His music is totally from the heart.
In Walter Lure's book he said for at least a year no one practiced, or wrote anything. They just got high
It always amazes me when people go out to

I agree about the talker needing to shut up. I'm loving this song so much right now.
That shit always pisses me off...
Haha I really thought Johnny was gona stop the show and yell @ the guy
.
Kurdt would get SOOOOOOO MAD at that when Nirvaner would so acoustic songs and stuff.

I hear only JT's..... 😎🤙

You just can’t escape it. That’s when you know it’s good art.

A song that never fails to send shivers down the spine every time you hear it
What an absolute legend, one of the most underrated songs, but one of the best god bless you Johnny R.I.P
He looks so sad here. Just a brilliant song.
RIP JOHNNY THUNDERS. MY FAVORITE ROCK STAR
This lifted me up and broke my heart at the same time

I thought the song was over & he took a bow Lol😂🤣😂 Then he starts playing again!!! (dropped his pick)
NYC scene in late 1970s/early 80s produced great music, many survivors, and many who did not. This is one of the best who did not make it. soo sad
Can't believe it's only now I've heard this song.
I love this song. One of my favourite
You have to hear Ronnie Spectors rendition..
It's the bomb
❤❤❤❤❤
This song is so beautiful and sad. Rip JT
I salute the singer and the song. Love you all.

Much love ❤️

Such a memorable song
"Beat my head against" an audience numb past deserving to hear such genius.
We should have all been there last month.
Love it! So beautifully poignant. Btw, Mr Thunders has a fabulously tuneful voice ;))
"And when they go...They let you know." Indeed. At this point, I need to stop trying to put my arms around a memory.
….& THE MEMORY LIVES ON…RIP Johnny.

I have addictions. They happen to be legal but still.
Like he said: they will respect me when I am dead.
He said that? His legend HAS been growing. His tragic life & death is part of the classic rock n roll legend👍👏✝️🎸 RIP JT
God I love this man
Thank you AstralSilence for uploading this.

Typical parisian crows, mean as hell
I LOVE YOU JOHNNY 💖🎸💝🙏🏼
Finally a performance where he doesn’t look stoned.
He was most likely on heroin right here though lol what’s your point
So GOOD :)

Where & when was this filmed??? Great quality besides people talking over the featured rock legend!!!!
Johnny actually looks lucid in this video. It seems hard to find video of him where he doesn’t look completely whacked out on smack.

…the autopsy confirmed evidence of advanced leukemia, which would explain the decline in Thunders' appearance in the final year of his life.

This is sad... beyond the lyrics.
I like the slower tempo totally wacked Marquee version better. fr.

The Gibus In Paris. Sorry don’t know the year. Duff Mackagan and Michael Monroe each do a great cover of this song.
