  • Arrowroots thrive better in swampy areas and along river banks as the crop needs a lot of water.
Due to changes in climatic conditions, areas where arrowroots used to be grown have dried up and farmers are abandoning the crop.
But in Murang’a, a group of farmers has refused to give up and devised a new method of growing the crop.

Please do a research on selling the leaves as well. I have seen packed dry arrowroot leaves in Asian stores.

Ati the rains stopped and the rivers ran dry. Why did the rivers ran dry? Lack of knowledge about land use and conservation of natural resources. No one ever bothered to question why rivers are where they are and what significance they have for the environment. Over population bred limited resources. limited resources bred deforestation and poor land use and management. deforestation and poor land use bred destructive development. If you destroy trees and rivers and do not replace them, expect to die as your rivers die. Continue using your plastic to grow your crops, even the bible says ... people die because of lack of wisdom.

great initiative. I wonder what health implications the plastic paper will have on consumers many years down the line considering the direct contact with food from seedlings through to maturity.

Let me spell it out for you. These farmers have dug trenches and lined them with big plastic paper to retain the water as it happens in a swamp. As such, the water will not be absorbed by the soil as it would naturally.
Did you even watch or listen?!

Those will not be as nutritious as the ones grown on swampy areas. They will be tasteless with very few nutrients. I can only equate this to broiler chickens
