Lyrics: "I hate children" I'm getting on a plane It's getting cold, I can hear screaming I know the number of my seat Panic dominates the great sorrow I get closer to the whining row The screaming gets louder and louder The fear gives way to certainty There's a toddler sitting right next to me Here comes the question of all classes “May and can one hate children?” I hate children I hate children The squaller now scrambles back and forth The mother's browsing a magazine She silently talks to the child while reading And eating an apple at the same time My dear Lord wants to punish me The pain in the neck doesn't want to sleep Nor does it stop screaming at all The father's long asleep like a rock Here comes the question of all classes “Can and must one hate children?” I hate children I hate children No, I love them Yes, I love them The big ones and the little ones But they have to be mine But all of a sudden it turns quiet The baby's smiling at me, I'm ecstatic I stretch my hand towards the little one Who then starts screaming once again I hate children I hate children No, I love them Yes, I love them The big ones and the little ones But they have to be mine I hate children I hate children Here comes the question of all questions: “Can and must one hit children?” No, I love themYes, I love them All children, big and small But they should be mine
You have to watch the short movie from this. Really. I watched the Musicvideo first and was a bit confused, then i found the short movie and now i understand it. it's so "good". Greetings from Germany.
We have a saying in sweden that goes "Mina barn, andras ungar.", which roughly translates to "my children, others kids", and I feel that's the same point Till's making in this song: I hate children(kids), but I love them if they're mine.
Oh this video is absolutely crazy. You have the video which portrays him killing the parents which didnt raise their children right ( bullying etc) then you have the part infront of the soviet court which he is portraying a series killer (52murders) in the car the judge was killed. In the song you also have him talking about that court and then he talks about his children being the only ones he likes while saying he hates other peoples children grown up or small. He is also singing about parents completely ignoring to control their kids
The Soviet children of the "pioneers" had the most beautiful uniform of all until today. It is a pity that it is no longer used, because the "pioneers" system is gone. My grandfather, my grandmother always talk about their childhood with great love and say the current schools are no good) But we are from Kyrgyzstan - one of the most distant provinces of the former Soviets. Almost all of my grandfathers, grandmothers and generations were the first in their family who literally descended from the mountains and received the best education, advanced knowledge completely free of charge, a job, they could afford housing, a car. How nostalgic they are for the past.
Well in the video he was the child who got bullied by other kids. So his character went around and killing the bullies after they all grown up and nailed the pictures of them as kids on their heads. He says "I hate kids! No I love them yes I love them. Big and small although they have to be mine. "Here comes the question, Can you hit/smack kids" His character hates kids unless its his own.
Some of his past relevant to the story of the video: His dad died of alcohol consumption. They did not have a good relationship at all. He was in a sports boarding school in the GDR. He was supposed to be an Olympic swimmer and learned there until he ripped his stomach muscles from the rigorous training regime. It was an incredibly competitive environment and all the kids were quite sick because of all the doping the state forced on its athletes (over 100 drugs were found simultaneously in blood tests of athletes, also kids in training), so it's quite likely they were very cruel due to all kinds of bodily pains, not to mention the toxic educational system there. 1. Fun fact: One of his bandmates from Rammstein had a thing going with Lindemann's wife and they had a kid that ended up with Lindemann's last name before he divorced his wife. He went to relationship counseling with his bandmate, but they ditched the wife. He has a good relationship with the kid to this day. 2. Fun Fact: He was a single dad for the biggest part of his children's life. His ex just got involved when Rammstein became popular and he couldn't take them on tour with him.

Never assume that the "I" in a song or a book represents the real author of something. On the surface, the song is about a lyrical I (which is not Till Lindemann) hating kids, because they are usually annoying (and don't like him, because they start crying again, when he reaches for them), he asks if it is okay to hate kids or even punish them physically (question of all classes (society= rich/poor, abuse happens in all places). There are several interpretations of that song, because Lindemann usually uses the coded style of writing; due to the censorship of the GDR (DDR), people could not write explicitly about critical stuff regarding their opinions or politics. Therefore, the lyrics have to be decoded and thus no one besides Till (or Rammstein) knows the real meaning (we can only assume): 1) some adults hate children because they are annoying, crying, tantrum etc. they don't want a kindergarten in front of their house, because children are too loud when they play. Those people are usually more tolerant if it is their own kids (like the lyrical I in the song). 2) the lyrical I might hate children because they bullied him when he was a kid himself and now he takes revenge 3) song might be about a serial killer in Russia. (he traveled, train station, the forest, the cage, the trial, the year 1989, the violence, etc.). Some serial killers also believe that they can possess their victims forever by taking their live ("the big and the small (children), but they have to be mine"). 4) Lenin statue with bleeding eyes --> political interpretation: there are some politicians who use a parent- child rhetoric when they are talking about their citizens. Those children should be silent and well behaved. If their children misbehave, they believe it is their right to punish those with different opinions (political opposition). There was a case : "His political struggle lasted four years - until the security authorities misused a video by Rammstein of all things to lock the 33-year-old away and thus silence him." (German article in Spiegel)
it's Till! You NEVER know what he hide in the song. In addition, video and song do not necessarily have to tell the same story at Lindemann / Rammstein. it's Till the greatest poet still alive in German-speaking countries

I'm getting on a plane
It's getting cold, I can hear screaming
I know the number of my seat
Panic dominates the great sorrow
I get closer to the whining row
The screaming gets louder and louder
The fear gives way to certainty
There's a toddler sitting right next to me
Here comes the question of all classes
“May and can one hate children?”
I hate children
I hate children
The squaller now scrambles back and forth
The mother's browsing a magazine
She silently talks to the child while reading
And eating an apple at the same time
My dear Lord wants to punish me
The pain in the neck doesn't want to sleep
Nor does it stop screaming at all
The father's long asleep like a rock
Here comes the question of all classes
“Can and must one hate children?”
I hate children
I hate children
No, I love them
Yes, I love them
The big ones and the little ones
But they have to be mine
But all of a sudden it turns quiet
The baby's smiling at me, I'm ecstatic
I stretch my hand towards the little one
Who then starts screaming once again
I hate children
I hate children
No, I love them
Yes, I love them
The big ones and the little ones
But they have to be mine
I hate children
I hate children
Here comes the question of all questions:
“Can and must one hit children?”

he hates kids unless they are his own. also he asks if you can and should beat/hate kids
Therefore, the lyrics have to be decoded and thus no one besides Till (or Rammstein) knows the real meaning (we can only assume):
1) some adults hate children because they are annoying, crying, tantrum etc. they don't want a kindergarten in front of their house, because children are too loud when they play. Those people are usually more tolerant if it is their own kids (like the lyrical I in the song).
2) the lyrical I might hate children because they bullied him when he was a kid himself and now he takes revenge
3) song might be about a serial killer in Russia.
Nothing But Thieves just dropped a new track!
Nightwish or Epica is also amazing.
So... where are Russian users?
What's he say about baba yaga?
It references the Devil's lack of understanding of God

I think judging by your reactions I'll find an audio only version for this one, tend to avoid his solo videos after one that involved school girls, or at least the uniforms (I didn't make it far admittedly).
Just found you guys fairly recently so not sure the background for some of the conversations, will say I do enjoy your reaction videos, and in this particular case, appreciate y'all going through the video as I likely would have continued avoiding the track entirely.
Cheers!
