They do have lore. I think the best comparison is a bit like Red Velvet with their duality concept. Illit has at least two concepts: dream world/dream self and real world/real self. There might be three concepts as the world tree typically stretches from the underworld, to earth and then to heaven, but we don't really know all their lore yet. Summer Moon will be their web cartoon that will likely be the outlet for them to really set up the lore but it hasn't been released yet.
what we know so far is that they can travel dimensions in their dreams. so in their dream world they can do whatever they want, have their super powers, etc (super real me) and in the real world they lie their normal lives, going to school, etc (real me)

The reason why a lot of fandoms are supporting illit it’s because illit has been receiving hate, harassment, death threats since predebut but got worse after the MINHEEJIN and HYBE situation where MINHEEJIN dragged illit and made a lot of ppl jump on the hate train and hate on illit for no reason.
