    I'm aware this is only meant to express an elementary concept, but as long as you went to the trouble to make a whole video about it, why not take a few more seconds to include how Earth's axial wobble affects things, why it has to be vernal equinox when autumnal equinox is the same thing, and what units of measurement are used for RA (hours, minutes and seconds). You should really also consider using a script next time.

    So how does this work when you take into consideration that the Earth wobbles on it's axis?

      Star maps are dated for this. The coordinates would change.

    Couple of small points "Ascention" is spelt Ascension. "How far around" (horizontal angle) - may be better to use 'hour angle' like we do in Celestial Navigation. Beginners tend to get confused with the Vernal /plane of the Ecliptic etc. Otherwise good explanation

    • @user-bx7nw1ve6y
      @user-bx7nw1ve6y 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      One more small point: "spelt" is spelled "spelled".

    The video is really great, but if I have a specific star in mind, how do I determine what the declination and right ascension of that point is? I ask because I have an application that asks for the declination, and I am unsure of what to put.

    • @user-bx7nw1ve6y
      @user-bx7nw1ve6y 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You have to first know your exact latitude and longitude, then take this into account when you measure the RA and declination of the star you are interested in from your location.
