There can be a mistaken belief by the younger players that tournament play is only for the elite and the games will be super tough. That's part of the reason they get nervous and tight up and miss shots. But the truth is that there are plenty of places which have teams like Jackson St.. They win a conference that couldn't play in the Big East, so they send a team to the NCAAW tourney. JS wasn't as good as several teams in the Big East. So, the next round or two will obviously get a bit tougher, but you can't know ahead whether they will be easy for UConn. Syracuse only won their 1st-round by 5 pts. Maybe UConn will mash them by 90 to 50. Who knows. Just play your game -- TEAM -- and Geno will keep you on track.

Is Beckers really this good? Quit getting siked out by these nationally known players. JSU needed their best player to take over and show America what she and her team are all about.

Bueckers is the most well rounded player in the country. She got hurt so people have forgotten. A wakeup call is happening.

@@johnklein6040 She's talented. I just wish she was challenged a little more this game.

@@lesliewebsterjr.2818 I agree, she missed a few shots yesterday she normally would make and I do have some concerns. earlier in the year, Notre Dame specifically and South Carolina some but not as much, she didn't show up. She is playing now with a different attitude than earlier in the year and i would like to see the Paige Bueckers from freshman and sophomore years, taking over games and leading the team to wins against the better teams. Her overall skillset is second to none so i think she will rise to the occasion.

No, she's better. She came out strong and then deferred a lot trying to get others involved. She's exceptionally good at getting the ball to players where THEY want it. She knew she wanted Shade to make a few shots early to gain confidence. Watch her encouraging Ashlyn and purposefully getting her the ball for wide open looks, and then consistently passing up open looks for herself to feed the hot hand. That's what a great on-court leader does. She could score 35 easily, but she know she needs everyone involved to win. That not only takes some of the scoring load off of her, it keeps their heads in the game. Today's players only care about scoring, but this team can only win if they dominate on D.
By getting them all involved on O, she keeps them in good place mentally, where they're willing to follow her lead and bust it HARD on D, which is all about effort. Sometimes, when your star busts it on D that's enough to get the others to follow, but Paige makes sure by keeping them involved on the O end to manage their frame of mind. It's a lot like rewarding the big for running the floor. The freshmen get down on themselves and can lose focus and energy if they aren't contributing on O. Paige KNOWS this and fully understands it's their enegy on D UConn needs to win,
so her guiding of the O and leading by example on D is very purposeful, not just altruistic...she does it to win. The majority of what she does, and when she does it( critical), to help UConn win is never captured in stats. They just don't capture leadership, IQ, psychology, gravity on O, clutch gene, etc. She's easily a top 2-3 players just on basic box score stats, 1 or 1a on advanced stats, and 1 easily on advanced stats that are not influenced by volume. Now, consider that her greatest impact to winning isn't captured by stats and that's why she's easily the best player player in the country.

@@cbrend22 You are a smart man, everything you said is true about her and the way she plays, I see that as well. I do believe she has made a conscious effort to come out early and score to try and get the team ahead and maybe then get them involved where she was doing it the opposite way before. Geno has been preaching that to her for a while. I'm saying once in a while there are times when she needs to be a little more selfish in the game, take a few more shots than normal.
