    The property line is at the mean high water mark. If you are walking along the water of a tidal portion of a river at low tide, you are on public land, not private property

    • @DarkNinjaShark
      @DarkNinjaShark  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is true for Maryland but in Virginia I believe it is the mean low tide water mark, so if you are not in the water, you are on private lands. This is why it's important to check the laws as they differ on either side of the river. I know people that own land on the Virginia side and I had permission to be there.

    Whoah; fantastic finds! And I'd say it's likely that the speartip found by your friend John is most likely an atlatl-dart tip, considering the size. Very cool!

    Nice day! I'm searching for like 2 months every weekend for like 10 hours and all I've found yet is a 5 mm tooth, but a tooth it's a tooth so I'm happy =)) GG for this nice trip, hope you'll post more often!

    Nice finds ! We collect some creeks here in Alabama for Cretaceous Sharks teeth and the occasional Mosasaur or Plesiosaur bones . None of our teeth are as big as some you are finding . Looks like you are collecting Eocene maybe ?

    • @DarkNinjaShark
      @DarkNinjaShark  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      ALABAMAHEADHUNTER awesome! I have seen some of your videos. You guys find some cool stuff! This area seems to be mostly Miocene based on our finds so far. Sometimes a little bit of fossils from the Oligocene might be found but for the most part it seems to be Miocene. I think there are some areas further inland that have some Eocene.
      At this location we typically find C. chubutensis and C. megalodon but not C. angustidens or auriculatus.

    As far as the finds go...... they go way far in my opinion. I've done a short fossil trip in Charleston, S.C. wasn't disappointed but not near your level of finds.

    That earbone is called a Tympanic bulla and probably a Dolphin not a whale. Whale tympanic bulla's are much larger.

      Charlie Hogan I wish I could tell you but it is a friend of a friends property so I can't disclose that information, but you can try colonial beach, VA or Calvert Cliffs, MD which are publicly accessible to find the same types of fossils. Good luck!

    • @DarkNinjaShark
      @DarkNinjaShark  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately I do not. Mostly because I don't actually live near that area. I live in FL now, and only go up to that area around the holidays to spend time with family (and even still, family lives around 5 hours away from Calvert lol). But i try to do some fossil hunting anyway because I love fossil hunting in that area! I do attend some events down in the FL area though, like the Shark Tooth Fest at Venice, FL

      Shark Man it is not for the public. My friend knows the land owner and they gave us permission to fossil hunt on their land. There isn't a name for the specific location and it isn't near any public beaches/shore.

    • @angryduck1647

    • @DarkNinjaShark

    • @DarkNinjaShark
      @DarkNinjaShark  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      jojo Lrng lol it could be I guess. I make necklaces from some of the teeth my friend and I find. It I don't find them specifically to sell them like some other hunters do. I could never part with my best finds. I sell the necklaces to help promote the hobby and interest in fossils and I try to keep my prices very reasonable. It doesn't make much money but I use that to help go on more hunts.

    • @DarkNinjaShark
      @DarkNinjaShark  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most of the Potomac is private, but a good public place to try is Calvert Cliffs in Maryland: 10540 H G Trueman Rd, Lusby, MD 20657, after you park, it is about a mile or two of a walk/hike to the beach/cliffs. (which is close to the Potomac but is technically Chesapeake Bay...

  • @shesridindirty

    I was wondering what influences the color of the teeth? Is it water, the matrix it was deposited in or time? Some of the colours are out of this world🐚

    • @DarkNinjaShark
      @DarkNinjaShark  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question, thanks for asking! It is mainly determined by the minerals present in the sediment the tooth fell into and got fossilized in. A lot of times the teeth we find are black, usually an indicator of being mineralized in phosphate. Part of it has to do with time, but only the time it takes for the tooth to mineralize and thus fossilize. Here is a good read about why we get the different colors of shark teeth:

    • @DarkNinjaShark
      @DarkNinjaShark  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Adrian Collins dinosaurs are cool! I loved them too as a kid but sadly I don't remember all of them anymore. Also sadly when I fossil hunt in Florida I know I will never find dinosaur bones because Florida was underwater when the dinosaurs roamed the earth.
