Tom eviscerating Jackson was one of the greatest bits from Thumb Cramps.

Crazy that Jackson just flat-out spoiled the game for everyone like that, if only there were some sort of alert or song to let us know there are spoilers and to skip ahead until we hear the song again.

See I dont think telling the story ruins the game at all. But I am also one of those people who dont mind spoilers. Though there have been multipe studies done showing that people on average will rate a piece of work higher when they already know a twist is occuring. One of the famous ones (It was even on QI which is not a super endorsement because they get alot wrong/not the whole story) is a study where people were watching a movie and one group was told the plot ahead of time and the other did not. The group who knew scored it on average quite a bit higher. But at the end of the day I think its all about each person individually (some people dont mind some people it ruins the experience for).

I stopped watching Shutter island midway through when someone spoiled it for me, and I never finished it.
I get not caring about spoilers if you’re the type of person to be on your phone during or not caring as much about narrative as much as others, but the point of the story is to go on a journey with the characters and in the way that the artists who made it meant is to experience it.
To me it’s disrespectful to the people who make it.

@@gimmicsripoff As I said its up to individual personality and etc. But characterizing people who dont mind spoilers as not paying attention/distracted is just plain false. Like for me I dont mind spoilers because I often guess the twist anyways like thats just how my brain goes especially when there are obvious twists like most horror/thrillers. And saying its disrespectful to the people who make it, like to me its the exact opposite. Because it saying you are only watching the movie for the twist if being spoiled can ruin a whole movie for you. Like there is more to a movie than the main reveal its about pacing, and acting and the set design and all the other factors which make movie adaptions interesting as compared to the book versions (though both have merit). So only watching something because it has a twist idk how that is respectful but I mean again its each individuals interpretation of it in the end. You will like what you like and not like what you dont but adding all that extra onto it to make it seem like there is only one valid point like saying its disrespectful or people are distracted is just silly.

@@Asura12 twists aren’t the only spoilers you can have. Everything about the movie told early on can be a spoiler not just the twist.
But if a movie is designed around the twist or it being an insane plot point, it being ruined for you takes away the intent of the artists.
Magicians don’t like revealing how they do it for the audience enjoyment.
You can guess it for sure, that’s for your enjoyment or not. But to say spoilers don’t make the experience muddied is just false.
You can enjoy it or not for different reasons and I’m not saying you’re wrong for enjoying it, but for Jackson or anyone to spoil things Willy Nilly while thinking it doesn’t matter to others because he or others have a different view of it is ignorant.
Go ahead spoil things or be spoiled but don’t ruin it for others, give out the warnings and let others decide.

@@gimmicsripoff I entirely disagree but that's the thing with opinions. Like I mean basic courtesy should include a warning I don't think it's the end of the world. Especially because there are scientific studies on both sides but there are many variables to it. The world is full of grey if you want to see things as absolute that's up to you.
Also most people know how magician tricks work but that does not take away the enjoyment of a magic show.

    • @gimmicsripoff
      @gimmicsripoff ปีที่แล้ว

@@Asura12 everyone is entitled to their opinions that’s the point. A warning is needed.
And every magician in the world and people who love magic would disagree with you.
Same idea about why you don’t tell kids about Santa until much later.
You don’t ruin the magic for them.
