    Good Name Choice! Welcome to the POS family. I’ve had mine for 9 years now and it is likely the best purchase I ever made. You will quickly find you’ll want a POD Zenith Table for it. Looking forward to seeing how your observatory develops. Congrats Trevor!

    Living in the city in a subdivision, I made my roll off roof observatory out of a garden shed. That dome is nice, but it’s advertising that you have an expensive telescope in there. So there is a higher chance of a break in. Mine looks like I have a lawn more in there, plus the roll off takes the whole roof out of the way instead of just part of it. I didn’t think it was going to last, but it’s been up for 18 years and still holding up well.

    Trevor, You are going to love it! I have had the XL4 version here in Western Washington State. Since they first came out. The ability to just walk out and be observing in minutes is amazing. And you are correct Wayne and his crew are outstanding. Eventually you are going to want to add the dome slide off table so that you can get closer to zenith. I am very excited for you and Ash. Keep up the awesome videos.

    Good for you Trevor! The POD is so enjoyable to use. I've had mine for about 7 years and it's so much fun to go out and just start doing astronomy without having to set everything up. Not to mention just closing up the dome at the end of the night without having to drag everything back inside while half asleep.

  • @krisbowers7344
    @krisbowers7344 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Trevor's setup looks real nice. I bought a POD with three extensions in 2007. The thing I didn't like about it was that at zenith the scope is blocked. The POD folks came up with a side deck that you can slide the dome off to clear up the zenith issue but it required removing the retaining brackets from the fixed dome half to push the dome assembly onto the side deck. I got ride of my POD about five years ago. I have built a slide-off roof observatory for my scope.
    Trevor did a nice job on his foundation assembly. I wonder why he didn't just build a roll-off roof observatory system instead of the POD. I built my 8' x 9' stick framed observatory for about $500 in materials. That was last summer before lumber prices skyrocketed.

    Trevor, congratulations on the observatory. Now you will be able to enjoy astronomy vs spending time setting up and tearing down every night. I built a 13' dome in 1983/4 in Upstate NY, and I have recently built an 8' dome and a 10'x12' roll off roof building in the Casper Wyoming area (about 7 miles from Casper). My skies are light polluted, but no where near as much as your location. You should visit Wyoming sometime, there are skies that are so much darker than anything east of the Mississippi. Also, humidity is very low, and altitude is above 1 mile, so transparency is really good. Nice observatory name, everyone here likes Rudy. I'm looking to use my LX850 mount solely for the ES ED152CF APO refractor that I have, and I'm looking to probably buy a Sky-Watcher EQ8-R Pro for the GSO 12" f/8 Carbon-Fiber Truss Ritchey-Chretien. I'm curious what mount you would recommend for the 12" RC, it's about 56 pounds. Louis.

  • @daveincanada4794
    @daveincanada4794 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very exciting Trevor! This will simplify everything for you. There is one caveat with these polyethylene domes: They tend to accumulate a lot of heat and humidity producing conditions that favour rust and oxidation. You may find you need improved ventilation, possibly even a dehumidifier. Results vary widely however depending on the base, local microclimates, etc. Looking forward to seeing what you can do with a permanent peer and the big new mount!

    • @SkyShedPODTeam
      @SkyShedPODTeam 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mounting on the deck will help ventilate a lot. And temps will never get high enough to hurt gear. You just open the dome 40 minutes before use to eqalize the mirror temp. ;)

  • @jongoldsby

    Awesome Trevor! I used the SkyShed plans for my roll-off observatory. It is cool you are close enough to pick it up yourself - lucky to be in Canada. The POD is probably something I would go for in the future if I move since they are a bit easier to construct alone. Good luck with that mount, if I had that much money to spend on a mount - I would go with Software Bisque over the Astrophysics or the others. Hope get to hold onto it for a while. - Cheers

    Nice. One day I’ll take the plunge too. My biggest concern though is that it probably is a theft-magnet. So I’d probably go for something less dome-like, but more a roll off roof shed kind. Luckily (in this case only) my garden is completely secluded from prying eyes.

    • @SkyShedPODTeam
      @SkyShedPODTeam 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Most people think that but sheds are a much bigger magnet. Thieves see a shed and think tools, golf clubs, lawnmower, ATVs, etc. They see a dome and think it's composter or propane tank. lol Plus PODs lock down great. After thousands around the world we've never heard of a POD being broken into. A couple of tries but they didn't get in. ;)

    • @KopLamp
      @KopLamp 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SkyShedPODTeam I think this will probably not apply to my country. Every house with a garden has a shed. But if there is a dome included than it is a whole different incentive. But good thing the PODs are apparently burglary-safe according to your statistics. 👍🏻
