Huh, i always interpreted it differently. In general, your best nightmare is completely chaotic, and it fits with the fight very well because of that. in the mist of chaos, whenever soul appears, you can hear familiar leitmotiv, each one being a bit clearer that the last, finale is a part where chaos becomes controlled, and so leitmotiv becomes clear, as it finally managed to break through the chaos.

Toby did an amazing job when it came to flowey. Flowey's whole objective was for you to do all the work so that he didn't have to (and couldn't). Flowey couldn't get the souls because Asgore was protecting them. I absolutely love Flowey's role in Undertale.
