Notes: 1. To anyone who is unaware, mcDJ is Childish Gambino’s DJ name, which is why he takes a handful of samples from those music. 2. I am aware that STN MTN are mostly remixes/covers (not necessarily samples), but I thought it’d be nice to still get the origin of the instrumentals he’s on. 3. Favorite sample used in this video is the Toxic sample, makes for a crazy beat. 4. “Let‘s Take It To The Stage” by Funkadelics is 1975, not 1985. Typo by me, I apologize (5/15/20)** Plugging these two here again: Instagram: @parked.in.traffic and Twitter: @parkedintraffic. i wanted to let the creator know i recently found out the song "Heartbeat" off of camp is a sample of Adele's "Hometown Glory" which i didn't realize was missed until recently.
I was looking at that R Kelly sample on Crawl thinking, "Huh, Pedophile / Sexual Abuser is a weird name for a band," not realizing it was referring to R Kelly 😭
Ah yeah I had that in the back of my mind, but since it wasn't much of a direct sample, I think that's why I chose not to. But ur right, it's good to know that
Fun Fact: Donald technically sanpled himself sampling himself because the mcDJ song at 1:34 samples derrickcomedy's video "Keyboard Kid" derrickcomedy as a group being one of donalds first appearances on the internet
Nice work through this whole video! It’s interesting to recognize all these samplings, and the clip works are also really nice (my favorite one is Atlanta clip for Worldstar!)
Actually it’s not from toxic, the sample I think, it’s from the original Bollywood source “tere mere beech mein” which is from where toxic was sampled in the first place :)
Bootsy's rubber band - i'd rather be with you inspired redbone from childish. Maybe you knew this already, but i'm Just pointing it out. Great video ♥️🙏
Right, it's hard to get the disparity between inspiration and sample sometimes which is why I didn't include it...but you're 100% right and I appreciate you knowing as well!
the only sample that still eludes me to this day is that “wowowowoweee” that carries throughout Flight of the Navigator. i read somewhere that it’s from an NBA game but idk which one
I can’t find anywhere that confirms it but I think the air raid noise at the beginning of Bonfire is the same one used in 2 Live Crew’s “Shake a Lil Somethin” but if he’s just taking the OG sample than that would be just a sound effect from a compilation album of sounds. Either way, thought that should be listed above
zwlsy yep they sound very similar but I think they might just be similar hard guitar strums rather than a direct sample, mostly cuz I can’t find any info that say it’s from that song; but who knows ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I was debating putting it in or not, since it's not really an interpolation of lyrics but rather the melody/cadence Kravitz sings it. But you're correct, that could def be considered a sample/interpolation

Loving these videos of yours having come into my recommended recently. My favorite sample is probably Good To Your Ear in Riot.
@@navonmyhand7999 it means a lot you watch as well! and yeah, those up beat guitar riffs are crazy

Everybody gangsta until Donald "Childish Gambino" Glover sampled himself.
mcDJ
Nah man, it was Donald sampling Childish Gambino
I was looking at that R Kelly sample on Crawl thinking, "Huh, Pedophile / Sexual Abuser is a weird name for a band," not realizing it was referring to R Kelly 😭
Bro I was mad confused 😂😂

Who else loved Bino’s appearance on Driving Ms. Daisy
Public_Property 04 My favorite feature from him
Who didn’t.
Oh yessir
yeees
Me
I've always wondered why even before his more recent albums, he's always felt so distinctly 80s to me. Seeing his samples, it's clear why.
Most of the songs I didn’t even know existed
Public_Property 04 another good purpose for these vids for sure
Y’all forgot the best one!
I’d rather be with you by Bootsy Collins
Was what inspired Redbone
Ah yeah I had that in the back of my mind, but since it wasn't much of a direct sample, I think that's why I chose not to. But ur right, it's good to know that
Parked In Traffic he kinda took the bass line
@@colesmelly more or less i guess then
Actually Isaac Hayes The Look Of Love was used listen to both intros it’s the same
1:05 song name: My Melody!!!!
Childish: OUR MELODY!!!!
from royalty to present he has presented nothing but greatness
Kauai was a mixtape so less of a sampling and more just rapping over other people's beats. This was cool video though, I appreciated it.
Stone Mountain was the mixtape kauai was the album. It was a double album like drop but only one was an album
Fun Fact: Donald technically sanpled himself sampling himself because the mcDJ song at 1:34 samples derrickcomedy's video "Keyboard Kid" derrickcomedy as a group being one of donalds first appearances on the internet
Wait who kind of artist calls himself Pedophile... ohhhh

Childish Gambino's favorite movie is Drive. Also, I love Drive the movie by a lot.

One of your best videos, dude. These and the "best samples of the month" are my favorite
TheFakeTron thanks for the feedback👍🏼
Nice work through this whole video! It’s interesting to recognize all these samplings, and the clip works are also really nice (my favorite one is Atlanta clip for Worldstar!)
Yujin Choi appreciate it! And yeah it was nice to have his own show to grab clips from lol
Pretty sure there's a different version of the "daddy, I love him" clip on streaming services
oops, might have gotten the original one or something then
It's different on the album too
thank you, i’ve been looking for the sample for do ya like forever- also this video is amazing
ramenoodledd no problemo 👍🏼
when you sample yourself, you know you make heat
So we just gonna ignore the R. Kelly diss at 5:42? 😭😭
man, thank you so much, YOU ARE SO COOL
The Rkelly joke got me good
LMAOO THE R KELLY
culdesac is a classic
One of my favorite mixtapes
Fun fact: Toxic itself has been sampled from an old Indian song!
Actually it’s not from toxic, the sample I think, it’s from the original Bollywood source “tere mere beech mein” which is from where toxic was sampled in the first place :)
This is why I love childish gambino
See, this is what it means to sample a song. Not just adlib over an existing song or make practically a parody of the original.
i love childishish gambino his musics be like movies frl
fyi mcDJ is gambino - his producer name so he was sampling himself
Anuj Jain yep exactly
@@ParkedInTraffic after i posted the conmment i saw your note. good work on the video btw!!

Sick boi anthem for life
Culdesac is the best
Childish Gambino referencing Shining Time Station is godly
That's amazing. Thank you
Because The Internet was his magnum opus
algorythm was sampled from hey mr dj by zhane
You are correct about that, I think this video was made before any official track of "Algorythm" came out; unfortunate miss
In the song II. Worldstar, Gambino uses a bumper from the adult swim channel
this is such an incredible video
Lights Turned On stays on repeat
W for the R Kelly part
wow i did not realize driving miss daisy was spaz
5:43: Wait What???
Edit: lol, it's R. Kelly
2:13 yeesh fire sample
I thought pink toes was a sample for musiq - so beautiful
the only sample that still eludes me to this day is that “wowowowoweee” that carries throughout Flight of the Navigator. i read somewhere that it’s from an NBA game but idk which one
Also I think whether on purpose or on accident he reused the melody of "Can You Get To That" by Funkadelic in his song "Have Some Love"
I can’t find anywhere that confirms it but I think the air raid noise at the beginning of Bonfire is the same one used in 2 Live Crew’s “Shake a Lil Somethin” but if he’s just taking the OG sample than that would be just a sound effect from a compilation album of sounds. awaken my love really only had one sample?
if so that's dope
There were many inspirations and small interpolations to a lot of the instrumentals, but yes, most of the production did not involve actual samples
😂😂😂😂😂 This guy said pedophile
Royalty is childish Gambino most underrated piece of work
amazing video
American Royalty is my favorite album of all time
WHERE IS YAPHET KOTTO?
i unfortunately missed it, ironically, i used the yaphet kotto footage but didn't think about putting it in....apologies

I wonder how the genius ideas were formed to make some of this music. It’s almost greater than food. Bc I’m starving without this
Ryan Gosling Jumpscare
I wonder who else knows mcDJ is childish gambino
Scott Larish def a secret to many; I had no idea prior to making this video lol
I'd guess "you see me" is sampling Wanna Be Startin Somethin which sampled that song
The brittney sample is a sample itself lol
I’ll never listen to zealots the same ever again
LMMFAAZAAPOOO THE RKELLY PART
Need an updated version of this...after 2016. But ok. 😎

he sampled Everything- Mary J Blige in put it in my video!

What’s da sample for flight of the navigator?
Either I skipped through the vid too fast or Bonfire has no samples.
