- #THEFINDERS Pondering historical moments in geographical and scientific history and finding an array of fossils on this special beach in New Zealand.
Finding the bones of Plesiosaur and Mosasaurs, 2 large, extinct marine reptiles. Of the Cretaceous era, 65 million years old +
Made famous in Jurassic World, the Mosasaurus was an enormous aquatic lizard of the late Cretaceous, dwelling in what would become the North Atlantic Ocean. It is named for the Meuse river where the first fossil specimen was discovered.
The largest species of the Mosasaur species could grow to over 50 feet long. Early paleontologists initially suspected that the Mosasaur was an ancient crocodile or monitor, but eventually it became clear that it was a different species altogether, unrelated to any modern animal.
Mosasaurus lived near the surface of the water, since it breathed air, much as whales do. They were carnivores, feeding on whatever edible animals were unfortunate enough to cross their path - likely fish, plesiosaurs, and even other Mosasaurs!
Feeling very fortunate to come across the bones of Mosasaurus in New Zealand, proving what an ancient and undiscovered history we have here.
Great video! Love the wood finds
where is this beach
Hi there, this is the South Island, NZ
Is this in the Canterbury region or more southern? No worries if you don't want to give the exact location away, but i would love to collect a nice piece of the fossilised shells for carving!
Great video anyway mate!
Edit: i am legit drooling over those old dinosaur bones!!! Just WOW! And that stump of Pet. Wood, dayuuuuuuuum!
Hey jitterbug how ya going it’s a place you can go north of Kaikura … also south toward Christchurch and spots south of Christchurch lol hope that helps 😊
Also I’ll do a video on a big bit I found it’s really exciting
@@forfossilssake hey man, im great thanks! ohhh, okie dok, thank you so much!! I have a feeling i know where this is then! You have me hella excited for my next trip down south now, and i cant wait for the next vid, chur bro!!! Thank you again!! :)
Protip: if you want to avoid making us nauseous because you pan about 10 times faster than you should, and creating a slideshow in the process, you need to switch to 60fps - that is the minimum acceptable standard for HD video in 2023. 4K is a pile of garbage if the framerate is only 30 fps - sorry.
And this is especially true on massive 200Hz screens like mine. Where low framerate is a real eye-killer.
If your camera can't capture 60fps at 4K, then you need to drop to 2K. If you make the 60fps change, I'll watch *and* subscribe.
Great feedback thank you. Will take note for sure 👍
