I really love how these Creator sets (the pirate ship, the castle and now the Viking boat) bring us back to the classic feeling of Lego. They're all really good set, yet they leave a lot of story and such open to imagination by using just regular bricks. That's not to say that using specialized molds and themes isn't a good thing, but it's fun to see them return to these roots from time to time.
I almost feel like this is an incredible advancement too, because yes, originally lego used more standard pieces to build things up(I’m thinking for instance of the sea serpent set) but for most of the time castle, pirates, and Vikings existed, they always used a lot of specialized parts. Now it seems like they are using standard pieces as they used to, but they are actually making them look even better than the sets using standardized pieces, which feels new.
Yea I dislike all the licensed sets! I don’t buy any of them anymore. I miss the old castle and space sets from the 80s and 90s and us old folk will be getting some special 90th anniversary stuff this august!!!
I really cannot believe Vikings was 16 years ago, I was still in grade school at the time. I remember buying 2 of the small Viking boat sets and having hours of fun with those two small sets. This set was a good nostalgia trip personally well worth the extra cost I had to pay to import early from Europe.
The brick-built sail is the main selling point of this in my opinion. I hope one day they'll make a Roman or Greek ship in the Creator series, if not I'll just get this and modify it.
I don’t normally like brick built sails but those curved arches work perfect for its build. I’m so glad we’ve got a Vikings set again for the first time in 1 1/2 decades
I guess even Vikings need their morning coffee! I absolutely love the brick built Ox! It's probably one of the more lifelike brick built animals in the 3 in 1 theme.
This set looks really cool but seeing all those quality issues on a premium set is a slap in the face. Especially since Lego is apparently increasing prices for decreasing quality
this is the third gray mustache guy I have seen in a big creator lego set like all the huge ones have the same faced guy like the pirate ship has him the castle has him and this too wow
The build looks great, but I am definitely most interested in those awesome torsos! Kudos to LEGO for actually giving us new torsos that look good instead of including a pirate torso 🤣
Echoing the issues raised here, I recently bought my first set in several years and was surprised by the drop in quality. There were subtle color differences with some white pieces and clutch power seemed inconsistent. There were also two or three pieces with slightly misaligned molds. Not enough to affect fitment, but it's definitely something I haven't seen before.
First thing I noticed when I went back to collecting (some 10 years ago) was the diminished clutch power. But have in mind that: 1- when we were kids, we were weaker, so clutch power was relatively stronger; 2- Lego has been facilitating things to kids, so some of the diminished clutch power may be true and may have to do with making it easier to kids. That said, yeah, on the last 10 years Lego have been dropping the ball in quality. Sure, back then we didn't have dual molded leg printing or very detailed helmets etc., but the "few" things we had were 100% solid. Nowadays we have lots and lots of detailed stuff, but some of them lack quality...
I like that the wide, long deck has studs all over the place. Great for placing figures wherever you want to put them. Lots of play possibilities. Too often Lego seems embarrassed to have exposed studs.
I only ever had 1 viking set (the wyvern one) but I always loved the aesthetic of the short-lived line and wish we got more of it. I'm definitely going to get this set as I think this, and the Pirate ship, are just amazing builds and look so good on display
I would also prefer to see the more realistic helmet style we already got in Series 20, especially because I have 5 of those vikings(which took me a great deal of time to track down. I am very proud haha), but what I do appreciate about these figures is that their torsos are not incompatible with the other Vikings in my opinion, which means that I can pop and swap between them and my cmf Vikings to still add variety, and then I can simply take off the Hollywood Viking helmets and give them hair.
You missed the significance of those two birds. Given that ravens are not typical sea going birds and that there is a pair of them, they're clearly intended to be Huginn and Muninn, Odin's ravens.
In my experience LEGO has always had a problem with reddish-brown (or similar) colors. Something just isn't right with the coloring chemicals they use in that mix
oh I remember the set this is referencing !!! It was looking so cool in the lego magazines I had when I was a child, sad I never got it... Such a throwback, great nostalgic values in this creator set !
Same. I was really hoping we'd see the Series 20 CMF Viking helmet reused a few times but no luck so far and no-one on Bricklink is selling it at a reasonable price.
got it for 85€ thanks to a local discount in my hometown, and gotta say I was planning to buy this at full price allready. It's a great set, and the house sounds great as well. The built animals (seaserpent and wolf) are a bit rough and I don't think it serves lego that good to mix too diferent type of builds in a same pack, since one type will most likely end up lacking or weird. Cool review, keep up the good work Jang !
All of the large creator 3-1's have been a must for me... but I will hold off a year or so on this and see if those color issues aren't addressed as more of this set is manufactured.
This is quite a cool set, I'm sure fans of Vicking sets will be pleased with one, I actually like the sea serpent, adds a little adventure in the set, the only downside, it won't float, I could see this being pushed by the wind, the sail is quite sturdy, still, I like this set, very nice review, Jang!
I would have been fine with just the ship also and maybe beef up the interior a LITTLE bit more and keep the serpent out, but from a pure playability standpoint, I totally get why the serpent was included. With the serpent you now have a toy set with a ship and the vikings versus an opponent in the serpent. Without that, it's just a ship, which is fun, but the battle between the two can be so much more fun. I do like the Vikings, but I agree, I would have loved them to be more like the CMF viking. I will be getting two of these sets so I can build the ship and the shack second build. Some of my viking figures will just become peasants in my fantasy castle & market square moc since buying peasant mini-figures are SUPER expensive on the secondary market.
My worst experience with colours was the UCS Star Destroyer (75252). A lot of the light bluish grey parts are a weird darker shade that really stand out. Also agree with wanting more use of that CMF Viking helmet. I was hoping to get loads of those for a LotR Rohan army but they're pretty hard to come by now.
After just having rebuilt my Caribbean Clipper and Black Seas Barracuda I can say I appreciate brick built sails and solid plastic rigging pieces. The cloth sails were in rough shape and the string was completely unusable after 30 years. I expect the brick built stuff will last much better for my grandkids.
This is fantastic for a 3 in 1 build. Really like how Lego is going away completely away from the larger hull pieces, and relying entirely on brick built subassemblies and structures. Also the rigging without the use of tying off multiple strings is also very nice to see here. Very smart design. For just a side build I think the serpent is fine for what it is and as detailed as it needs to be. Only real complaint is $150 feels a bit much and unfairly priced for less than 1200 pieces.
I like the horned helmets. I'm not buying this LEGO set to have a historically accurate model. It's simply really cool to look at and play with. Great review as always!
Thanks Lego, Creator is great! Thanks Jang for great review!

When I was getting this I was surprised at how big it is. The ship is as long as Luke's UCS land speeder. Hidden feature: The shields are great spinning tops.
I am honestly glad they have the Midgard serpent. I think I'd like the set less without it. Not to speak of it's parts probably being necessary for other builds.
As a historical viking age enthousiast I was excited when I first heard the rumour about this set, was looking forward to a more historically accurate set fitting for the collectible minifig.
I don't think LEGO has any intention of fixing color inconsistencies or print quality issues. They're very much flirting with how much cost cutting they can get away with before most consumers start noticing.
Those crows are Odin's in mythology, they fly around the world and tell him what they see, I forget their names tho, cool detail with the Lego designers.
I thought I was imagining things with the quality of Lego going down after the past couple of years. The warped (flow marks) are on so many new pieces and sets. I don’t remember them ever being like that. They were always completely flat. Also the flat plates all show stud holes through them and again I never remember old Lego having that issue.
That is a GREAT looking ship and brick built sails are perfect. The building techniques are so good for the shaping of the hull. I like cloth sails too but man these are really well done. So, on sailing ships, the flags should be facing forward? This is how all the instructions I've seen for classic and modern pirate ships say to do it, and I always switch to facing to the back. Forward just looks wrong to me. I was never sure on this. The wind blows the sails and thus the ship forward, so the flag should be blown forward too? Or should the flag be trailing behind because the ship is moving so fast through the water? Argh! lmao. Still none of this explains the gravity defying flag on the back of the original Black Seas Barracuda! Haha. I could definitely do without the sea serpent and wish the set was a $100. It feels overpriced compared to the Pirate Ship. I am fine with the figures and their inaccurate looks, heh. I guess LEGO figures the serpent gives something for the Vikings to fight against and have more of and adventure, and I'm pretty sure LEGO doesn't want kids recreating what vikings ACTUALLY did! 🤣
I actually got into an argument with someone over Lego quality the other day, they were saying how Lego part quality was so much superior to COBI, and Even when i presented them my most recent cobi set vs lego set to show them Cobi parts are just as good as lego they didnt believe me. Im not saying it cant happen with cobi but ive had 3 lego parts snap on me in the last 6 months, but i have yet to have a cobi part snap. Something definitely is going on with lego.
The Viking theme was one of my favorite of all time. I hope to get this on a good sale in a few months, because it feels absolutely overpriced considering how affordable Creator was until very recently
Not sure if it's just me but I own 3 of the Creator 3 in 1 sets and have only ever built the primary build i.e. the one which uses all the bricks. On each occasion the primary build was the thing I wanted. Kinda seems a waste but I just look at them as standard sets where the build which uses all the bricks is the reason I bought it.
Oh boy. All 3 builds reference the Viking theme from 2005. The main build looks like a Masterbuilder's magnum opus. Like they went to 5he viking museum in Copenhagen and was challenged to reproduce it. The serpent is a marked improvement over the original but could use some MOC-ing to get there.
The female hairpiece isn't a Hollywood design, it's an Irvine one. It was designed for the Overwatch Valkyrie Mercy skin which was clearly developed and cancelled. The colours are even the same. There's a similar example of an unreleased Overwatch hairpiece in the vidiyo line.
If it wasn't a 3 in 1 you could get rid of the snake and put it at $100. The snake could be have a separate set with a minifig fighting it. Adding a few more minifigs, food items or another ox would have been better for the current price.
There's an interesting debate around horned viking helmets being hollywoodian or not. We've actually only found one single full (& hornless) viking helmet, which is clearly not enough to conclude that they did or did not feature horns. However there are a couple of artefacts, like the Oseberg tapestry, that depict horned helmets. So vikings *did* wear horned helmets, but perhaps it was only ceremonial and very rare, there's just not enough info to conclude anything (regardless of the myth most likely coming from hollywood)
Thanks for the video. I'm struggling to decide if I want to buy this. I like vikings so this should be a no-brainer, but I feel like it's missing something? Or maybe because it's brick built, it's not as premium feeling as it could be? I dunno.
So my question is, how did you get a copy of this so early? Did LEGO send you a review copy for content creators like is sometimes done? Or did you have to actually go get this and track this down? Because this is such a surprising and highly detailed set that any vikings or Lego fan would be excited to get!!
Wow, this one I like very much, that built-up sail is very nice. I liked the with the 3in1 pirate-ship too. The head looks especially well made, but why did they use a dark tan light-head brick instead of a reddish brown one? Lego does them in reddish brown, isn't that so? Looks a bit weird. The snake is awesome, that would have been a proper basilisk for the HP-world, the one with the Great Hall Set was pathetic.
One of the worst style conventions ever adopted by Lego was to expand/replace the colour options for Technic connective elements (pins, axles, bushings and gears) beyond grey or black.
I expected more of this. This should have been more of a row boat - give us printed shields and opening for rows, rather then clunky shields and a stupid looking ballista. The mug isn't a big deal, but it bothers me nontheless. The entire serpent should have been built with joints like the tail. Just compare it to the shark from 31109 (Pirate Ship)! If I had to choose between both sets, I would always go with the Pirate Ship, even if the Viking Ship has the better Minifigs. The latter are the saving grace of this set and I think I will buy them seperatly (Torsos are great, especially Blondie's).
I’ve noticed personally on my set the the two longer rope pieces at the front and back are really tight and very slightly bending the ship to the point where it’s a tiny bit wobbly. Have you noticed this too or did I just build it wrong?
I really love how these Creator sets (the pirate ship, the castle and now the Viking boat) bring us back to the classic feeling of Lego. They're all really good set, yet they leave a lot of story and such open to imagination by using just regular bricks. Looks really nice! I'm guessing the birds are supposed to be Hugin and Munin, Odin's ravens :)
They probably are. Nice seeing some references to Norse Mythology
I just have to love a viking ship in Lego. They should definitely bring the theme back, or at least make more sets.
The brick-built sail is the main selling point of this in my opinion. I hope one day they'll make a Roman or Greek ship in the Creator series, if not I'll just get this and modify it.
Looks a lot bigger than I was expecting!
I don’t normally like brick built sails but those curved arches work perfect for its build. I’m so glad we’ve got a Vikings set again for the first time in 1 1/2 decades

This set looks really cool but seeing all those quality issues on a premium set is a slap in the face. Especially since Lego is apparently increasing prices for decreasing quality
I think those ravens on the mast might be representing part of Norse mythology with Odin’s Ravens!
Between this, the spaceship, and the castle, the classic themes are back in the New York Groove
this is the third gray mustache guy I have seen in a big creator lego set like all the huge ones have the same faced guy like the pirate ship has him the castle has him and this too wow

I like the sails, I get why they did the big plates, I just wish the stripes continued at the back
I like that the wide, long deck has studs all over the place. Great for placing figures wherever you want to put them. Lots of play possibilities. Too often Lego seems embarrassed to have exposed studs.
I think the best thing about this is that the lines actually work in supporting the mast
those brick built ravens are spectacular.
I’m so glad I found this channel. The videos are so entertaining and informative.
I only ever had 1 viking set (the wyvern one) but I always loved the aesthetic of the short-lived line and wish we got more of it. I'm definitely going to get this set as I think this, and the Pirate ship, are just amazing builds and look so good on display

Nice. I've been trying to get some of those CMF helmets myself for some LotR Rohan soldiers. Got 3 so far.
I love those shields on the boat
Yes yes yes, more of these sets LEGO, both in theme and build 👍👍
You missed the significance of those two birds. Given that ravens are not typical sea going birds and that there is a pair of them, they're clearly intended to be Huginn and Muninn, Odin's ravens.
In my experience LEGO has always had a problem with reddish-brown (or similar) colors. Something just isn't right with the coloring chemicals they use in that mix

I really hope some days we'll get history accurate vikings in lego, but still the build is really nice.
We just need History sets...
Same. I was really hoping we'd see the Series 20 CMF Viking helmet reused a few times but no luck so far and no-one on Bricklink is selling it at a reasonable price.

Cool review, keep up the good work Jang !
Just got this at around ~ $90 equivalent in my country (Malaysia). Good stuff, can't wait to build it. Thanks Jang for the review!
The ship look awesome! The serpent too!
Seems to be a bit more expensive than the previous two despite having less pieces
Best 3-in-1 set of the year!
All of the large creator 3-1's have been a must for me... but I will hold off a year or so on this and see if those color issues aren't addressed as more of this set is manufactured.
I get historically accurate and I get cool, I prefer cool ! Great set.
I saw the Lego Viking Ship at a shop yesterday. It's beautiful! I bought a Viking minfig over 5 weeks ago.
Old themes survive in Creator.
Feels like the 100 dollar pirate ship from 2 years back and then plus the serpent makes it worth it for me.
I would have been fine with just the ship also and maybe beef up the interior a LITTLE bit more and keep the serpent out, but from a pure playability standpoint, I totally get why the serpent was included. Vikings!!!!!! If you join this set with all the other Thor sets then you will get a fantastic collection.

I am glad that Jang exists. Hes such a good person. Faith in humanity restored👍
Thanks Lego, Creator is great!
Thanks Jang for great review!

Owning 7018 I'm excited to build this one and compare.
The birds are most certainly ravens, maybe a reference to Huginn and Muninn.
The blond Viking woman’s hair looks like a variation of the minifigure Elsa’s hair. It’s just like this one, but without the crown bit.
I would love to see a comparison of this ship and the mega construx one from a few years back
I thought I was imagining things with the quality of Lego going down after the past couple of years.
The warped (flow marks) are on so many new pieces and sets. I don’t remember them ever being like that. They were always completely flat.
Also the flat plates all show stud holes through them and again I never remember old Lego having that issue.
You're not imagining things, unfortunately...
Great set. Count me in.
That is a GREAT looking ship and brick built sails are perfect. The building techniques are so good for the shaping of the hull. I like cloth sails too but man these are really well done.

Genius head of the boat. But don't like the oversized shields (too thick, too big). Great figs, fancy Ox, to me.
I'll need 3 of those
The serpent looks like the Snowager.
I actually got into an argument with someone over Lego quality the other day, they were saying how Lego part quality was so much superior to COBI, and Even when i presented them my most recent cobi set vs lego set to show them Cobi parts are just as good as lego they didnt believe me. I like this one a lot think gonna buy 3 of those
This whole set screams "Valheim" to me, which is why I think I like the sea serpent. The first time you see one in that game it's fairly terrifying.
uh oh, I like it more than I thought I would...
Not sure if it's just me but I own 3 of the Creator 3 in 1 sets and have only ever built the primary build i.e. the one which uses all the bricks. i wanted this so bad, back in the day lol
The female hairpiece isn't a Hollywood design, it's an Irvine one. It was designed for the Overwatch Valkyrie Mercy skin which was clearly developed and cancelled. The colours are even the same. There's a similar example of an unreleased Overwatch hairpiece in the vidiyo line.
oooof I have a hard time deciding to get this or pirate ship 31109 !!!
Nice to see Jang getting sets early for build and review! I’ve been looking forward to this set. Now more so.
This was released 2 weeks ago. That's not early. If you're trying to suggest LEGO sent me this to promote it, don't.
The 2 crows are probably hugin and munin :)
Got this for 80 bucks I love it❤
cool. 2 brick ravens/crows to represent Odin watching over the ship. lego trying so hard to pull me back in.
Wow always wanted the original
Ouch 120 dollars. What was the price of the previous large creator set, the castle?
High price or not it does look good and thanks for the review
Fun fact: in Norse Mythology, Ravens where used as spies by ODIN :D
If it wasn't a 3 in 1 you could get rid of the snake and put it at $100. The snake could be have a separate set with a minifig fighting it. Adding a few more minifigs, food items or another ox would have been better for the current price.
I found the use of a mug rather than a goblet amusing - but I suppose handles existed at this time period?
i want to have this soon
There's an interesting debate around horned viking helmets being hollywoodian or not. love this set, just got for $115 AUD and the RRP is $179 AUD plenty of great deals about
I'm glad I've bought the original 2005
Thanks for the video. I'm struggling to decide if I want to buy this. I like vikings so this should be a no-brainer, but I feel like it's missing something? Or maybe because it's brick built, it's not as premium feeling as it could be? I dunno.
Ship is gorgeous. Colorful, but still wooden.
Welp time to spend all my money again :D
So my question is, how did you get a copy of this so early? Did LEGO send you a review copy for content creators like is sometimes done? Or did you have to actually go get this and track this down? Because this is such a surprising and highly detailed set that any vikings or Lego fan would be excited to get!!
Lego is doing a pretty good job with their boats after the previous creator pirate ship
Which do you think is better ? This or the Marvel Thor Goat Boat?
I expected more of this. This should have been more of a row boat - give us printed shields and opening for rows, rather then clunky shields and a stupid looking ballista. The mug isn't a big deal, but it bothers me nontheless. The entire serpent should have been built with joints like the tail. Just compare it to the shark from 31109 (Pirate Ship)! Looks pretty good but then I remember that the Ninjago Movie Destiny's Bounty was like 160
I don't like the sails being bricks. Other than that, looks really cool!
Jörmungandr is a little bit small here, compared to god of war 2018.
