    Not sure how I feel about all this. I lost all my gear in 2020 when my house burned down and getting decent used gear since has not been easy due to the prices. But, I hate to see people lose money trying to sell gear in a buyer's market. In the past I'd only sell gear when I REALLY needed money, so people now in that situation, not a great thing.

The one I bought was from a Gibson employee so it was extremely fairly priced of course, but all of the pieces I’ve wanted to add going for 20-40% more than their value in 2019 has been tough to see. Hopefully it balances the industry back out and doesn’t go too far

    I think we're really reaching the turning point of modelers/plugins being more used or valued than analog gear. Just as the older guys age and younger players become more interested in cheaper, and lighter modelers. Wouldn't be surprised if those vintage Gibson, Fender, Marshalls that were worth 100s of thousands previously start dropping in value.

    • @nickmandleberg
      @nickmandleberg ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not really, it's simply a reflection of the global economy. It's cyclical. Watch when the next boom begins how much more classic vintage hardware and quality real equipment increases. You'll never ever make money buying a licence for a plug in. Modellers will always decrease. Remember Line 6 pros? Look how much they depreciated. Kempers will follow the same pattern because behind the software they are merely metal containers and software always becomes outdated. A vintage Gibson will always retain value but in tough times people buy less so its natural prices falter.

    • @camshash
      @camshash ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not agreeing or disagreeing, but would like to add that selling plugins/vst is way less practical than physical gear. For example, If I wanted to sell omnisphere, not only would I have to make sure every session I have used it on is committed to audio so I dont lose it, you have to pay a license transfer fee for it, and some developers dont even allow license transfers.

      Yes.... this is the problem right now to where nobody wants to go low but the value has actually decreased because of the economy, and I'll just say it, it's the Democrats ridiculously stupid economic policies that have drove us into this mess. Not trying to be political but everybody knows as soon as Trump comes in all markets will go up just like they did the last time he came in. As soon as he left everything started tanking. Again, not trying to be political but it's impossible not to do so to tell the truth. The truth is is the reason this is happening is because of democratic policies. @@TheBoss0Time "Not as good" is a very subjective thing. Tube amps are expensive to buy, maintain, repair, and transport. You can get modelers and profilers for a fraction of the price, and many artists are now using them on stage and in the studio. With the advent of inexpensive (Tonex) and even free (NAM) profilers, and other software options, tube amps are becoming more difficult to justify. Add to that the current economic situation, high interest rates, and shrinking musician income, and you have the perfect storm for the diminution of the tube amp market.

I watched a video today with Guitar Junkie and Mike Britt (Lonestar) and he mentioned how playing his Kemper makes him forget he is using a profiler.

    I was told no new EVH dealers will be opened up for at least a year by the rep for our area. THAT's likely why the EVH stuff is high, because not many can get their hands on it at the moment. Honestly, this is probably better for current dealers, though, at least the market isn't flooded to the point that dealers have to give it away to sell it. I owned a guitar shop for 22 years starting in 1990 and was a Crate amps dealer for the first 3 years of that. I dropped them after year 3 because there were NINE other guys the rep had opened up as dealers within a 40 minute drive of me, and I am in rural southern IL. NONE of us could sell them without giving them away. I bailed and went for other lines and I wasn't the only one who did.

    Consumer confidence is at its highest level since early 2022, recession fears have passed, unemployment is at record lows and inflation is down to 4%. The used market is cooling down because: 1) Retail inventories have mostly recovered, so fewer people are turning to the used market. Supply chain issues getting resolved played a big part in this 2) Like you said, pandemic purchases getting dumped back into the market.
    May not necessarily be people giving up guitar but simply letting go of stuff they didn't vibe with. I didn't even need the cash but I sold off a handful of pieces I just didn't want anymore to just have more space. I set my prices about 15% below "market" and my gear moved quick.

When the prices of homes got too high people start buying condos, but then once the market turned around, the house is retain their value more than the condos so those who bought late we’re stuck with condos that were worth less. So the moral of the story is just don’t buy the mediocre stuff get the quality high-end older stuff if you’re buying used and in the long run that only will it be a better quality instrument it’ll retain his value.

Now they’re $1200. Next I got a 1993 Japan SL1 for $1100 that now goes for $1800. I just picked up an SG Supreme I found in a pawnshop for $860 out the door and my local GC got a Mesa rectifier 4x12 for $800 that I scooped up. Love finding me those hidden deals

    I paid 500$ for a VTM 60, and I actually considered that a good deal! I never thought I’d even pay that for the more unknown Peavey heads.
    I did also manage to recently score a Peavey 3120 and 90s Ampeg 4x12 with V30s all for 300$, so there definitely are great deals around. It came with the footswitch too! Changed out some preamp tubes to lower gain ECC83 and ECC82s and it’s a total keeper! I’ll probably put some 6L6s in there too as it’s got some Mesa EL34s in it right now.
    Great video Kyle! I’m psyched for your channels success!

    The used gear market as gone CRAZY in the last couple of years... In my neck of the woods (Montreal, Quebec), there isn't as much gear locally and people are asking batshit crazy amounts. Also on the amp side, considering that most amp makers jacked the prices on their stuff pre pandemic, the ol' day's of snagging a JVM410 for $1300 used is FAR gone!

Traded and sold and bought a lot of guitars (mostly Les Pauls) and told myself everytime I made a profit, that Im keeping whatever guitar I had. Ofc I didnt. But now i arrived at a 2016 Les Paul Standard in transamber which is probably the best guitar Ive ever played in my life and that Im keeping.

Like the transuperm,xxl,3500 shockwave or 2200 older amps like becoming classics say to say? A year ago or so you could get them all day for $200. Today I was looking and seen couple of them they was asking 300 to 399 for them. Lol

    I think a lot of it comes down to people not having cash for used gear. I've been buying/selling a lot over the years like yourself, (but much less) and over the last year I can sell my gear for market value but I have to be willing to sit on it for awhile. Months. I'm fine with that but it is sad that a lot of people really are struggling in this economy and trading in gear for low prices.

    • @beefnacos6258
      @beefnacos6258 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's not even about struggling sometimes. Some people have the money and they don't care and they will take that trade in to get that next item that they want. I have sold lots of guitars on the market but lots of times I have removed the listings because people are just way too annowing and everybody's trying to low ball you sometimes. Sometimes for some of us, because we don't need or care about the money, we will take that trade and put it toward something else. I still liked your comment because I do know what you're saying.

    • @tyrannosaurusriffs
      @tyrannosaurusriffs ปีที่แล้ว

      @@beefnacos6258 I agree with you. That makes sense. Some people don't care and losing a couple hundred bucks isn't a big deal. I've also removed items from the market at times due to people sending low ball after low ball. It can get annoying. Luckily I've been fortunate enough to never have to sell something to come up with cash quick and make a decision I normally wouldn't make. Patience is the key. Usually.

    The used market is definitely mellowing out right now. It makes it a little easier to grab something you just can't live without. How long will it last, who knows. Ultimately, the more people buy the more the prices will rise. It's a vicious cycle. You hit a lot of key points in this video. Thanks for sharing...your knowledge is appreciated. Just snagged me a used OS 412 Mesa Recto Cab at Guitar Center a month ago for almost half of what it costs new. The salesman was telling me he told the seller to not do it there cause Guitar Center wouldn’t give him what it was worth, but the guy unloaded anyway, which redounded to may benefit. I think the bigger concern here is the declining purchases of new gear, but then again it all cycles.

It’s just not what it was. The drum dept might only have a dozen kits total and there’s maybe 20-30 used guitars, a dozen amps/heads. I’m happy to see the prices fall when I have some money for once.

    1) The cost of travel and lugging your gear around is far more than its ever been, and thanks to increased security apparatus and delays, more of a huge hassle than ever.
    2) Modelers have surpassed tube amps for most professional applications
    3) 80% of modern bands use their Axe, Line 6, or Neural - direct to FOH, with ear monitors.

    The consumer price inflation in the United States declined to 4.0 percent in May 2023, the lowest since March 2021 and slightly below market expectations of 4.1 percent, driven by a decline in energy prices. In addition, the core rate, which excludes volatile items such as food and energy, has slowed to 5.3 percent, the lowest since November 2021, supporting the argument for the Federal Reserve to consider pausing its current cycle of monetary tightening. Energy cost slumped 11.7 percent (vs -5.1 percent in April), while food inflation slowed to 6.7 percent (vs 7.7 percent in April). There were also smaller price increases for new vehicles (4.7 percent vs 5.4 percent), apparel (3.5 percent vs 3.6 percent), shelter (8.0 percent vs 8.1 percent), and transportation services (10.2 percent vs 11.0 percent). The cost of medical services was down 0.1 percent (vs 0.4 percent in April). On a monthly basis, consumer prices edged up 0.1 percent in May after increasing 0.4 percent in April.

    A recession is a significant, widespread, and prolonged downturn in economic activity. A common rule of thumb is that two consecutive quarters of negative gross domestic product (GDP) growth mean recession, although more complex formulas are also used.

    It depends on what you are looking for an where people are still buying stuff up. Some sellers are even not even wanting to negotiate at all just denying reasonable offers without counter ones as well. Used parts prices are almost the same as buying new too still. Will it go lower possible but getting a deal is still difficult short of going into a store. I shop for lower end beginner gear as well as older used gear that should be cheaper due to better options being available pre vintage odd ball stuff.

    Id say its the case of youtube influence. People are "reviewing" gear and persuading broke joes, like myself, that they need to run out and grab this new guitar/amp/pedal/modeller. We arent blessed to be given free gear, so we need to sell what we have, which is gear we were persuaded to get by influencers.
    Not a knock on TH-cam influencers, but now is the time to stop paying attention to what you guys actually like or being paid to like, because in the end, its not really about US.
    Recently bought a new Charvel Jim Root because of people saying that its so awesome (for them), all the while forgetting that i hate FRs, now that guitar is on Reverb for way less than i bought it for.
    Long story short, the age of the honest youtube review is coming to an end, and now we just want our money back to get things we really want, or use the funds for the cost of living.

    I don't really know which used gear market you mean, I'm usually on eBay and sometimes I stare at offers on Reverb (but I'm afraid of scams) and I haven't seen any offers you can't refuse! For this reason I bought the Tokai EX instead of the original Gibson or at least Edwards. I love solid sound like you do, and the sight of amp heads behind you makes me drool, and I know I can't have something like that so I'm settling for Kemper Stage or FM9 thinking, I'll skip the QC. The drop in prices may be caused by inflation, but it seems to me that all unemployed musicians are collecting money for their summer vacation. Right now I'm interested in an ESP Eclipse 1 or 2, a white Explorer and a Gibson LP Classic Antique...but the price is still too steep for me.

      Reverb is a really bad gauge though. A lot of people put extremely over value prices on things because Reverb charges a fee to use them as a selling platform. You see it a lot with outrageous shipping prices because the seller is trying to make up for what Reverb is cutting out from them on the main price.
