My husband died in agressive cancer. I never left him. I took off to be next to him, comfort him even my world was crashing down. I want to be with him to his last breath. I hold his hand sitting beside him next to his hospital bed when he took his last breath. When his soul flew away he took my breath with him. I sat there half an hour totally empty inside. That was spooky. Still after 9 years single live i remember the happy days we had together. I was the happiest wife with him, and i know he loved me, he found a peaceful life with me. We were together 8 happy years i missed him a lot.

I stayed by my dad every day and night and helped my mom until my dad passed away from cancer.
After he passed away. I dressed him. My mom asked me to and brought out his favorite boxers, sweatpants and T-shirt and new socks.
I was honored she asked me to dress him.
When my mom died, I also dressed her. My family told me it wasn’t necessary but to me it was. She was in an adult diaper and a PJ shirt.
I put under on her, sweatpants pants, a matching sweatshirt and socks.
They deserved to go with dignity to be cremated.
My parents both earned their dignity and I was not about to let them go anywhere without their dignity.

Even staying in the hospital with her going to X-ray and dalistat treatment for her kidneys. If I didn't go then she wouldn't go. I made so many staff members mad because I fought for my mom's rights. All the way to the C.E.O. of the hospital.

I felt so sad for her pain finding out how she was so betrayed. When the investigator showed her pictures of his ultimate betrayal Imy heart sank for her. Im glad her sister was there by her side and she was able to help her. In her final moments she didn't have hate in her heart but so much sadness. Im glad she took everything away and donated it to the hospital so that others would not have to suffer as she did. My tears throughout this whole story were tears of sadness at first then finally happiness. Thank you for telling her story. When my mom was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, I became her nurse. I held her when she took her last breath. My words I whispered to her, confirming to me that they do hear you. I had lost my everything, my mom, my best friend, my world. There is truth to this sad story. Emily struggled to live and he could hardly wait for her to pass. In this story the truth speaks that until next time doesn't always come for some. This painfully sunk deep within my heart for those who've wronged my mom in her time of struggle. I'll never forget those who could not honor her. Trust is everything in this world and without it, there's nothing. They all lacked prayer and forgiveness. Life is a precious gift, non of us know how much time we are going to be here on Earth. You will never experience true Joy until you have given your life over to Christ. He died for all of us to inherit eternal life in Heaven. All the riches and fame only bring you temporary happiness. Barbara, when my precious gift from God passed away 25 years ago from an extremely aggressive form of cancer I had no idea as to the real depth of her love for me. Yes, I knew what we had was very special and we were bonded tighter than almost any couple I knew, but she left me a surprise I was hardly prepared for. After her funeral, I started going through some boxes that she kept in the back of our bedroom closet and was stunned to find that every card, every little statuette, ever scrap of paper that I had ever given her had been saved! Idiots say that men don't cry have never seen a man totally loose it when his heart has been ripped from his chest as mine felt like it had been. The cards and memories that your husband left for you to read over and over again are a testament to what love can truly be.

@@sp-mb1qe I did 3 years of chemo every 2 weeks and saw men leave halfway through their spouses treatment. They also stayed but refused to be there for her. They couldn't deal with it? How can you not deal with somebody sitting there with an IV running. The person can still carry on a conversation, laugh together and hold hands. I wish my husband was living he would have set an example for these men. It went both ways, I was with him in the hospital while he was recuperating from several heart attacks and surgery. He knew I was hurting and would make sure they didn't take the good recliner from his room. When he was allowed out of bed he did sit in it but he got into bed when I got there. This was a second marriage for both of us. Loved him dearly. One night we were sitting watching TV and very abruptly for no reason he blurts out this is what a marriage is. I looked at him and he continued. We can sit here together being totally silent and not wondering when the other is going to get up and leave for some stupid excuse or start drinking and get abusive (butt end was that for me) or verbally abused (him by sharp tongued wife). As I watch these women undergoing their chemo without a husband by her side (one that was living) I would become very sad if they were, close enough I would carry a conversation and give them some support. My angel was on my shoulder. I was happy to read in the story that she got even. I'm sure it broke her heart to do it. You do find out rather quickly whether somebody really loves you or not. My Dad passed away at 56 from a Heart Attack. They had him set up for bypass surgery only he passed shortly before. The one thing my Mom made sure of after he passed was to go to the bank & get all the money out from checking & saving. She was by herself & I was only about 20 minutes away. I got to the house & Daddy had already been picked up. Mom did not ask me to help with anything. We contacted my Sister & 2 Brothers. We called his Half-Sister, Aunt Gertrude, & my Mom's Brother, Uncle Bud. That is where I helped with contacting people. Always be there, available to help.

Something I’m pretty sure my husband would do. He already treats me poorly with a chronic health condition. He’s mean actually, regardless of what I say or do, he always finds fault and blames me. I used to care and be upset , now I don’t want to be with him.
It’s just for my kids and grandchildren, we’ve been married 47 years, I’m so sad , heartbroken and depressed. I saw the red flags before we married even as a young woman and the way his parents were, if only I would have listened to my friend. Still I would love to be in a loving, respectful, kind relationship, I’m 67. It doesn’t seem possible anymore. . Anyone who abandons an ill spouse is just plain evil, I believe God has a special place for them.

Most people don’t realize how difficult it is for the partner of the person who’s dying. When someone is dying from cancer all attention and care, and comfort is directed at the cancer patient while the partner goes through unbelievable stress, loss, useless hope, fear, Helplessness, so many emotions! The cancer patient is suffering terribly because they are ill, and facing their own mortality. But the partner goes through those same emotions As well as exhaustion from being a caretaker. Ultimately the cancer patient dies but the partner lives on with the loss and heartache of being alone. Sometimes they never receive even a thank you for being a loving caretaker for possibly years. It’s true, some people act the way this man did in the story, but most are selfless in standing by and supporting their partner, all the while all the care, Comfort, and attention is directed at the person who is dying. While the partner is living and dying at the same time. So If you meet someone whose spouse is sick, maybe you should consider the heartache and stress they are going through and the brokenness and loss they will continue to suffer long after a cancer Patient is dead.. just a thought.

Have you ever loved someone enough you would die for them? Then spent 11 years caring for the love of your life knowing you could lose them each and every minute? Your heart dragging on the ground when treatment fails and soaring with hope when treatment seems to make big improvement? Spending every dime on treatments and alternative treatments? Sat for hours watching the face of your beloved hoping, praying, and believing, really believing, a miracle will finally happen only to have that hope smashed time and time again? Ever been disabled yourself, your doctor telling you to, “stop or it’s going to kill you”, but Keep it to yourself and continue caring for that loved one because your whole life is bound up with theirs? Then, when all is lost and the end finally comes and you are so broke you have to Rely on the generosity of your children to give your loved a beautiful funeral while you’re faced with crass comments like, “well thank God, it’s finally over. Now you can get on with your life. As soon as you feel up to it, I’d like to introduce you to someone, after all, you’re a young woman, no need the greive forever.” You feel like a hollowed out drum for two months, unable to get out of bed you finally get to the doctor but find out you have cancer yourself. You go through the surgery and the treatment wishing you would die only to live! But You just can’t seem to get through the grief because there’s just an empty spot right where your heart used to be. With the savings gone you are forced to sell the Home you shared with your beloved and then faced with the hurdle of selling all the things that were so precious to him because they just won’t fit in the tiny little apartment you are moving to. 14 years later you still reach for him in the night. You are ashamed of yourself, because you can’t quit grieving, you know your partner wouldn’t have wanted this! You function, you put 1 foot in front of the other, but joy all is gone. Yep I’m guilty, guilty of loving beyond “until death do us part”.

Your words are so profoundly true and filled with empathy. It’s often overlooked how much the caregiver endures-emotionally, physically, and mentally-while trying to be the rock for their loved one. They carry a heavy, invisible burden that doesn’t end when the illness does; it often lingers for years as grief and exhaustion. Your perspective is such an important reminder to extend compassion and support not only to those who are ill but also to those standing beside them through it all. Thank you for sharing this heartfelt and thoughtful insight. ❤️🙏

You set this in New York but there is no way a hospital would hire someone without researching them completely.

The person who wrote this is very wrong in thinking that hospitals would not hire someone without doing complete research on the person. It happens all the time in hospitals all over the country. My own Mother had a perferated ulcer. She was taken to the emergency room of our hospital and the chief of surgery did emergency surgery on her stomach. He remived half of her stomach. The surgery was done incorrectly and the follow-up repair was not done in the order it should be. My Mother's stomach and health was ruined forever. My Mother vomited every single day of her life for the remainder of her life and went through much discomfort and hospital stays because of his mistakes. It was later learned after mistakes on additional patients that this man was not only not a surgeon, but he was not even a licensed physician. All of his paperwork was fraudulent. And he had been made Chief of Surgery at our hospital. When his deception was discovered he had a beautiful wife and a daughter who was in my high school class at school. He had to leave his family behind and flee the country to escape prosecution. This was a tremendous shock for our community and for our state. This took place during the early 60's before we had the widespread use of computers that we enjoy today. But still it never should have happened.
There is a nonfiction movie out now, THE NURSE, about a nurse who killed 72 patients before he was finally caught, prosecuted, and put into prison. A good honest nurse whose patient had died without an understanable cause was the one who pursued wanting to know why her patient had died without reason. Her persistence was the reason for catching this murderer. It was horrendous that 72 people had died. But one of the saddest parts of the story is that the murdering nurse had worked for three previous hospitals before being caught at the fourth hospital! The leaders at the other three hospitals had learned that this man had killed some of their patients! But rather than calling the police and turning him in, they each found quiet ways to dismiss him because they did not want the bad publicity for their hospital. I think that is beyond horrendous!!! They knew this man was a murderer and that he would probably go out and be hired by other hospitals and continue to murder more innocent people. Those three hospitals are just as guilty of all the follow-up murders as the murderer himself! They knew he was a murderer but the quietly let him go because they did not want the bad publicity for their hospitals.
The reason I am writing this note is to encourage people to truly check out your hospitals and your doctors before entrusting your loved ones to their care. There are still some wonderful hospitals in our country and some magnificent doctors! But there are also some terrible hospitals and hardened doctors that exist who care more about money than they do the health of their patients. So people should be extremely careful and investigate when choosing their doctors and choosing their hospitals. The number one and two causes of death in hospitals are heart disease and cancer. In third place for cause of death is "Hospital or doctor error"! When this happens they do everything in their power to cover it up and avoid any publicity because it can hurt the future of their hospitals. So please be thorough and careful when choosing your doctors and your hospitals.
