I just started following you because for my sweet 16 im getting a chinchilla and I've done tons of research and I feel ready but I subscribed to you because you sound very educated in chinchillas and I can't wait to learn new things, thank you for all you do because it does not go un noticed!
Great video!!!!! I changed the way I store Dusty's hay and now he eats it every day where before he would not eat it. I keep his hay in a seal proof bag. Before I kept it in a tub and put holes in the lid. That did not keep it fresh. Every day when I clean his cage I just put a little in his feeder and he loves it. He also loves his hiding box. He is in it most of the time but perfers to sleep on the ledges also. I hope you all had a great Christmas and thanks again for all the great videos!!!!!
Ok, so I was gifted a chinchilla last week. I love him. But I don't know if he likes me or not. =( Sometimes he's cool with me holding him, sometimes not so much. Plus, I generally have to catch him in the cage, rather than him climbing into my hands. But he will come up and put his hands on mine or my arm sometimes. So, the woman that I got him from gave me a bit of dust, food, and hay. I put the container in his cage that first night and he took a short bath in it. I took it out. Now I put it in a big box and him in the box, let him run around in it. I think i need one like you have. I tried putting it back in his cage for a bit, cause it worked that first time. Meh, not so much. Ordered more from Amazon that got good reviews for the most part. I mixed the two. But he won't bathe now. It's worrying me. Plus, I don't know if he's content or sad or ok with me. I'm just scared I'll mess this up without knowing better. I've always had dwarf hamsters. Found out quick that chinchillas are more work. I've also read conflicting acceptable foods and treats to give em. Arg... also, our house is warmer since it's older and how can I make it cooler for him, cause our house can stay around 80. Scares me when I think about the temp and him. With hamsters, I used to put frozen water bottles in their cage to help and when the power goes out. I'm scared of that too! What do I do if the power goes out? We're going into warm spring and hot summers here in Oklahoma! 😒😮💨🤞😖🥺
I’m now moving my new Chinchilla away from our window. It’s winter here , but I don’t want him to get to warm. Thank you for doing this channel , I just subscribed. I love Mr Pickles and want him to be happy. This is day 3 w him so I’m just letting him get used to all the new sounds and his new cage , I do have his dust bath in the cage , but I thought after seeing this I should take it out . Because I don’t want to harm him w his food . Great tips on the hay , I’ll remove the old hay and replace it daily , along w his water . He also eats Timmothy hay and pellets .
Had a chinchilla many years ago, named Chili, but recently just got a girl chinchilla and I'm relearning taking care of one. Thanks for the info. We r learning more and more as we go. Her temperament has been good so far. And we r learning her personality. Ur videos have been very helpful. Good to know there are so many people with luv for them.
I recently got my moms chinchilla male, and I worked with him everyday to warm up to me when we got him and i am still extremely amazed how after three years of not working with him, he is still so chill with me, but on the other hand I have another male chinchilla that I cant seem to get social, would it hurt either of them if they were to socialize? They are both males and their not fixed as far I know. A little advice would help a lot. Thank you!
Plastic can be dangerous, if they chew it and ingest some. Of course, many plastic hideaways will be perfectly fine, you just need to make sure they are ones sturdy enough to resist chewing and that the plastic does not contain harmful components. But due to the potential for plastic to be a problem, I generally recommend against it.
Some of my chinchillas hate dust bath. Instead they prefer to bathe in water. Yes, you can wash a chinchilla. Some of my chinchillas hates banana while others love it.
Upset food throwing is friggin hilarious when you see it.

Question why did you say no plastic hide away
