so you throw shade on Hopper for not being inclusive and "diverse" enough...such a near sighted monotonous modern narrative...Hopper invented his own world, the world that has intriqued and inspired millions of people and continue to do so. He left an amazing legacy by doing it his own way...if you want more "diversity" go to other artists for that. Take what you need from Hoppers world. And by the way Hopper DID one painting of a black woman, that just means that they also existed in his world. What kind of legacy are the critics in the video going to leave behind? this DEI noncense is trying to creep on every art history narrative, it's ridicilous. If you lived in that era would you have thought about inclusion etc? i think not...
man shut up. you shouldn't look at any artist historically without considering their worldview and how that relates to the art. Understanding an artists body of work is impossible without understanding the motivations of the artist and compared to other figurative artists of his time, its evident that hopper didn't really give a damn about anybody other than himself. He was an amazing artist obviously, but he was a bit stuck in his own bubble, and if that isn't evident by his work, maybe you're in a bit of a bubble too. You sound like an old man who's projecting his insecurities
it's nice to see a wonderful doc on Cousin Edward :)

I dunno if it's just me being an ADHDer but I think he probably was neurodivergent. (I'm not giving it as an excuse for anything)
An artist has no obligation to reflect political opinion.
