    Welcome to Sensible Secondhand Reviews, the series where we usually take a sensible secondhand car worth between £1000 and £5000 and put it through its paces in a very straightforward manner! This time, however, we test a 2017 Renault Captur 0.9 TCe Dynamique Nav, which is one the predecessor to one of the most surprisingly successful cars we have had on the channel recently.
    Be prepared for a sliding rear bench, an annoying Eco button, a frustration cruise control switch location and very little of any consequence at all. Nothing untoward, then!

    A very attractive and practical car that has been a great success unsurprisingly.
    Some lovely colour combinations and very nicely finished interiors.
    Easy access and command driving position. Nice gearchange, efficient engine and plenty of trim level choice.

      Yes, the second generation one has been very successful in particular. These aren't my favourite of this type of car, but I would understand why someone would like them. My aunt has owned three of them!

    The Captur is firmly on my shortlist for a potential first car purchase (I'm tall and 27!)... and I literally searched for whether you'd reviewed one of these this past weekend!

    Great little review Sir, the 3 Cylinder thrum is appealing to me, not sure if I would have it in eco mode, I think a lot of these were on the mobility scheme, as a garage near my in laws tends to deal with a lot of these.

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes sir, don't put it in Eco mode, though! It's ridiculously underpowered. More three cylinder action coming up on Sensible Secondhand Reviews soon....

    Thanks for this video! 😀 I have never seen this model in New Zealand. I have, however, heard of Dacias in UK car magazines and I can see a resemblance.

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the platform and engine are very similar to a lot of Dacias.

    I have the cousin to these cars, a Dacia Logan Laureate with the 0.9 tce engine. I like it very much although it isn't without it's quirks(the switch to turn on the cruise control is below the heating control and the stop start system button is where the cruise control switch is on the Captur). Positives are that it rides well, has an enormous boot and is fuel efficent. Negatives would be that it does run out of puff quite quickly and the steering is somewhat numb, presumably the same system as the Captur.

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I drove one of those in 2017. The switches being in a stupid place is typical Renault/Dacia! Must be one of the most economical estates ever sold in this country.

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There are so many cars in this class that it is hard to say without going on and on, really. I would also try a SsangYong Tivoli or an MG ZS at the lower end of the class, but there are so many that a lot of it would be down to personal preference.

    My wife & I have always had an arrangement that she can do what she likes with the house & I pick the family cars & it’s worked well for many years. We’ve ran nothing but Audi & predominantly BMW’s mostly of the forbidden fuel variety since 2001 e39, e60, f10 & currently running an f31.
    In late 2014 the cozy arrangement was disturbed by my wife’s desire to pick the family car which to be fair she is the predominant driver of (I have a van that I run for my business) & to cut a long story short she picked a Renault Captur.
    No ordinary Captur either it was at the time the top spec Signature Nav model which was just launched in the Renault metallic red that every Clio seemed to come in at the time that seduced her. We waited 3 months on it to arrive & with options it cost us just shy of 20k!!! 🤦🏼‍♂️ yes I still can’t believe we actually did that!! 🤣
    To be fair it was a perfectly reasonable car & did it’s job however it was incredibly dull to drive, painfully slow, not particularly economical & by 2017 even my good lady couldn’t wait to see the back of it. It’s coup de Grace was it cost us 4K in negative equity when we traded in against our 335d touring (which we still have) & it is without doubt the most “expensive” car we’ve ever owned taking into account purchase price, residual value etc. When I see one on the road I still get a shiver in my spine 🤣
    Another good video sir!

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh sir, you have a very generous lady wife letting you pick the cars most of the time, even if we are unable to discuss said forbidden fuel BMWs on the channel... Was this Captur over which we can deliberate?
      I think a topic for the future is the catastrophic depreciation and massive discounts which were available on cars in the 2010s, probably why the Captur ended up sadly putting you in negative equity... It's really not the case any more. My lady wife and I passed a dealership yesterday advertising a really early Corsa F (69 plate), which would have been around £18,000 new, for £13,000!

I currently drive an ASX 2017 but the suv range on that level are quite big and fuel thirsty for a teen's first car . The current Renault range is very bland and it's a bit of all the same kinds of things in various sizes. Back 80s and 90s, Renault had a very good range of models and was much more interesting.

      I would rather have the cheaper SsangYong Tivoli or MG ZS than one of these (as I said, you get a much longer warranty with both), but you don't get the sliding rear seats in either of those. In Eco mode, these are definitely not great!

    I don't understand why you would spend money on such a shitty car.
    I have driven one for 300 km when my own car was in the garage for maintenace.
    It is the slowest car i've ever driven.
    The engine makes a lot of noise and if you drive 120-130 kmh it uses more fuel than my bmw 325i.
    Further more the handling is as bad as it gets, it's like you are driving on ice.
