Ponto-cho → Shijo-Kawaramachi → Ponto-cho
Ponto-cho, one of Kyoto's five flower streets, is a narrow north-south street along the Kamo River from one street south of Sanjo Dori to Shijo Dori.
Passing through Ponto-cho, one heads for Shijo-Kawaramachi, the largest mecca of mecca in Kyoto.

The origin of the name Ponto-cho is said to be derived from the Portuguese words ponta (ahead), ponte (bridge), and ponto (point), or from the sound made by a drum between the Kamo and Takase Rivers (skin).
