Very informative video. One thing I noticed though, that is extremely confusing to me as a beginner, is the use of the phrase 'about now' in reference to the timing of when things should be done. It would be much more informative to name the specific month or season.
Could you tell me please what to do with a Mason bee house that I purchased that has no straws in it? How do I get the bees out without tearing the house apart? At the time I did not know it was for Mason bees and had no comprehension of how to do it and thought it was for honey bees or anything else that might come along that needed a place to lay its eggs and now that I know, I realize that it was just a novelty that was being sold at the dollar store.
This was a great video! Can I make my own mason bee attractant (pheromone?) ? Rather than buy them? I know that lemongrass works for honeybees. What about the blue orchard bees? - thank you!
What direction do the Mason bee prefer their house to face? Seems like there are mixed thoughts on these. Most of the web is saying they should be facing south or southwest, but some say they do not like too much sun or wind. and they recommend north or east. We have 2 at the community garden, one faces south and the other faces east, seems like the one that faces east is all full up with nests, but the south hardly has any occupancy. What do you recommend?
