    M390/204P steels are really a lateral move from Elmax. More wear resistance, less toughness. Personally, I'd favor the Elmax as micro chipping requires more effort to repair than just stropping some edge wear.
    My interpretation of knife tiers from knifesteelnerd's tests, based on a simple multiplication of toughness × wear resistance rating (so favoring more balanced steels).
    1st tier (from tougher to more wear resistance)
    3V Cru-wear Magnacut 4V M4 K390 10V 15V
    2nd tier (from tougher to more wear resistance)
    12C28N AEB-L LC200N SPY27 S35VN Vanax HAP40 XHP S30V S110V S90V
    3rd tier (from tougher to more wear resistance)
    420HC 52100 Nitro-V A2 8Cr AUS-8 M2 CPM-154 VG10 CPM-D2 SG2 D2 Elmax S45VN M390/20CV/204P ZDP-189 M398 S125V Maxamet
    4th tier (from tougher to more wear resistance)
    H1 5160 80CrV2 L6 V-Toku2 1095 Super Blue 420A BD1N 4116 154CM 440C N690 Rex-121
    The toughest (H1) and highest wear resistant (Rex-121) aren't high tier here, but this accords with how well they work as EDC knife steels. Some tough stainless steels (like 12C28N and AEB-L) don't get nearly enough credit, some brittle highly wear resistant steels (like ZDP-189 or Maxamet) get too much.

    The Lil Native is a great small knife, really solid for being tiny. I'm digging that versions color.

    Thanks for another great video; I have both knives but in different configurations (Riv - Brass, and Lil'Native - Carbon Fibre). I also prefer the Riv.
    You asked for feedback; an important element of quality improvement. I listen to your videos while shaving. Often you use phrases like "the materials on this guy" or "the action on this knife ..." which can be confusing unless you are watching and listening. If the viewer is only listening, then the quality of videos is improved with phrases like "the Riv is heavy" or "the Lil'Native is lighter". You can tell me to go take a hike! LOL. Cheers.

  • @Cid_1
    @Cid_1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Really considering picking up the Riv. I want a small knife so I don't have much options. The dragonfly's is kinda out of the question for my cause I don't want anymore Spyderco backlocks. And if I wan't Titanium and a decent steel I don't have that many options if I want a wider blade, and not a slim gentleman like knife. So I think I'm going with the GM Riv. Unless I find something else. Have considered the Fox Yuru is S90V also but it's like $50 more.

    hey kev , love the lil native in which ever lock style. love the riv but don't own one........am thinking a buying one but will cost me $277........ here in the uk. i am looking at the urban supplies f5.5 carbon fibre with damasteel .............. $500 but with taxes etc. will cost me $691............is the f5.5 alot better than the riv in your opinion ? 👊👊👊

    • @LeftyEDC
      @LeftyEDC  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I love the F5.5 man. They are different sizes, Riv is tiny, F5.5 is a good size. Also if you are lefty like me, definitely go F5.5. But maybe try to find one on the secondary. The damasteel one is twice the price because of the steel. With those options, i would lean Riv cuz of the price. I still think u should find a F5.5 in a regular steel

    • @LeftyEDC
      @LeftyEDC  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I see them for sale occasionally on KnifeSwap. Can’t you get one there? There is a CF/Elmax one right now for $275. You can always send it to me and I’ll ship it on to you if that helps.
