As someone who loves really detailed artwork of crowded, run-down, fantasy cities, this movie was pure pornography to me. The gorgeous background artwork alone is worth watching it for!

My parents got us this movie on a CD years ago because they knew we liked anime. We were so confused because we’ve never seen it or heard of it because it wasn’t mainstream. It randomly came to my mind today and so I searched it up on TH-cam not expecting anyone else to have ever heard of or seen it before. I’m pleasantly surprised that I share this memory of a movie with other people too, especially this video, since I didn’t really understand the depth behind this movie until I’ve watched this one. My mind is satisfied now! Thank you :)

Your train of thought there about revisiting the old town and the parts after are very representative of Taoism, which means that Tekkon Kinkreet achieved essentially what it is trying to tell. People always remember the Yin and Yang, the black and the white, but they tend to forget that in the white there is a circle of black, and in the black there is a circle of white. A showing that in the great moments of our life there is great suffering, in the harshest of times there is always hope, and within the ebb and flow of time, this layered rotating circle, we find balance and purpose and meaning.

I love how the title is like "IT'S AMAZING!" but then the thumbnail is just "it's good" that just makes me laugh so hard for some reason

...honestly, watching the city/cities I grew up in change and morph is maddeningly depressing. I feel like a walking time capsule asking my friends "Remember what used to be here?!". The worst part is that it's all in my head now, just memories, because no one ever bothered to take pictures of all the old shops and stores and places we used to frequent as a family, and why would you? That's silly.

Wow. It’s been literal YEARS since I’ve seen this movie. I remember watching this right before I first started high school. I was so confused by the plot, yet I felt a deep connection to the main characters.

Tekkonkinkreet is one of my absolute favorites, and criminally underrated at that. The original manga (released in English as "Black & White") is also an interesting read, if only to see all the differences and see how unconventional the art is.

(SPOILERS) I saw this movie almost ten years ago by complete chance, and I was so enchanted by the visuals and overall surrealism, I only saw it once (must rewatch) but I never forgot it: the fight scene where Shiro gets stabbed never fails to make my stomach drop to my feet when I remember it. I think I held my breath for two minutes. The way it happens and how he screams is so ...childlike? You fully realize how young, vulnerable and completely in-over-their-heads the two brothers are. Thank god he didn't die 😥

Great video! Also, the movie's OST done by Plaid is simply amazing, it fits so well.
