I see two proud men who are comfortable in their own skins, not talking in any simulated voices. Today's young American men can learn a thing or two about healthy masculinity from Arne & Carlos.
We have a similar dish we cook cabbage and pork with peppercorns we call it Kapusta my husband is Polish it’s also our favorite meal in Autumn loved this video thank you for letting all of us into your kitchen and love the salt and pepper holders we call them salts. My grandmother collected them in all different colors, but you are right I have never seen them attached together great find congratulations!
I love adding the bone shanks because it imparts a really rich flavor to dishes. And yes, having the meal the next day is always the best! My mom used to always say that waiting til the next day allows the ingredients to “marry” and the flavors all become “one”🤗
I always enjoy watching Arne trying to be patient, but you can always see his excitement. Carlos is always so patient an methodical, but is aware Arne is barely holding back. You too are so funny. Thanks for the recipe, it looks easy and delicious, perfect for a chilly day.
I'm not a fan of lamb, but I love cabbage. I make corned beef and cabbage, my husband and my grandson love it as much as Arne loves Farikal. I think I will cut the meat smaller and chop the cabbage like you've done here to help it cook more. I always have to buy at least 2 or 3 pieces of corned beef because it really shrinks when you cook it, but it takes much longer to cook and I can never time it right so dinner is always very late when I make it. Thank you for the information.
Our family's favorite cold weather cabbage dish is also very simple, also better the second day, and would have been perfect for tonight's supper. Our dish is layers of cabbage, potatoes, and sliced kielbasa, in equal weight measures depending on how much you wish to serve or have in leftovers. I start with a couple pinches salt only, then season to taste a few minutes before serving. Each batch of any sausage will vary slightly in spice strength, so I find I prefer to adjust at the end. And enough water for the steam to start as you have done here. I will be trying your dish later this week. One pot meals are my absolute favorite. It is an absolute out of the norm night here in Kansas U.S.A. It is snowing. Our first snow does not usually come until mid December, rarely before late November. I only wish it had come this afternoon so I cold watch it fall.
How cool! My Dad was raised on a sheep ranch and they raised hundreds of sheep for wool, but they also ate the sheep. I believe it kept them alive during the Depression and afterwards. My dad had many tales of sheep herding with his brothers when he was as young as 8. Lovely table as well.
This is exciting. I love the main ingredients and it would be so good on this cool day. Tusen tak Carlos. I'm so happy these older videos are still playing. I'm literally drooling and want this.
I am in the middle of enjoying my very own plate of lamb and cabbage. Sooooo delicious I couldn't wait until I finished eating to say THANK YOU for teaching us how to make this dish.
I tried this and I really liked it. In fact, over the last 3 weeks, I have had it about 6 times. It's now on my list of everyday meals to cook as it's so very simple to make and freezes very well. Goes very well with a traditional english dish - yorkshire puddings.
Oohhhh you two are a delight ! Wonderful time watching your video. Arne.... I am the same way come dinner time ! You guys had me laughing in stitches...
that is one gorgeous pythos u both have back in the corner... 🌱 hi from Texas.. love u both.. great yarn work.. this was a treat seeing u guys doing something other than knitting/crocheting.. love it.. side note.. love seeing the thoughtfulness respectfulness caring wonderful chemistry u guys have.. was more demonstrated than from the yarn work videos.. much admiration for u guys.. God bless u both.. 💕💕💕
Love all your videos and this recipe. I just harvested cabbage and potatoes from my organic garden high up here in Colorado Rockies. I also have a freezer full of lamb that graze on our pasture in the spring. I'm all set to try this with my all natural native ingredients!
I made this last night - So delicious! but nothing could have prepared me for how much better it tasted when I reheated the left overs for lunch today! Thank you so much for a such a delightfully simple and healthy recipe!
Carlos, how long have you lived in Norway? Amazing that you know how to cook so many Norwegian dishes! In what country do Carlos' parents live? Do they like Norwegian food?
Good evening guys well another wonderful video tonight just goes to show us how multi-talented you are. Carlos your dish looked wonderful and Arne's table flowers were lovely. I loved the way Arne had his fork and spoon at the ready he didn't want to wait, just goes to show what a marvelous cook you are and Freja was want some to if the kitchen had that beautiful aroma. I look forward to more recipes from you. Thank you again for a wonderful evening with you both. Until next week take care and have a good week x
What is not to like about this video, your kitchen is so beautiful and cozy!! This meal so reminds me of the traditional dish of IRELAND which is boiled bacon and cabbage which is delicious!! Thank you for sharing !!
I always enjoy your videos whether knitting, cooking, etc. I live in New York State in the US. TH-cam added 4 political ads to your lovely video. I don’t mind ads as a rule, but 4 political ads was almost more than I could take. Did anyone else watching have this experience?
I made this dish for my family last night and it was delicious (I love cabbage). I really enjoy seeing videos about your everyday life. I can knit and crochet but I prefer crochet.
Arlene, Carlos, I can hardly wait to taste this dish! It’s on the hob right now, just a few minutes since I followed along with you on this video for the procedure. OMG, this recipe wins the ‘easiest ever’ award in my books. My husband and I absolutely love lamb. What an interesting combination with cabbage, which we also love, and no searing required ...... that caught my eye. And well anyone who loves pepper will be in heaven. It took less than 15 minutes to prep. I’ll let you know how it turns out. Thanks for sharing this! Pat Lawson, Lynden, Ontario.
Well I’m back! I’m making it again tonight, it’s on the heat now, and I can hardly wait. It was soooo good last time! The cabbage here in Ontario is so sweet at this time of year. I feel lucky to have your great recipe and a nearby local farmer of amazing winter vegetables. The lamb is more of a challenge being very expensive here. I wait for a sale. But good food is worth paying for, right? I must apologize, I misspelled your name in my earlier post Arne, so sorry! I’m knitting your Pairfect socks now, until dinner is ready. Wish you were here!
My wife and her family are Norwegian. I recently discovered I’m 1% Norwegian from a DNA test. SKOL! I look forward to making this dish for them! Great video guys, beautiful home. thank you!
I have Norwegian ancestry so I thought I would cook farakul. It is so delicious & easy to make. My daughter absolutely loved it. Thank you, Arne & Carlos. 😋
Arne & Carlos I soooo love these videos!!!! I was hoping for knitting but was truly surprised & pleasantly surprised by how awesome you both are and way talented at all that you both are. You inspire me to be happy with all that I love to do which let me tell you, you both have taught me how to knit really better than I had thought that I could. My father taught me & my sister when we were young so I got to where I would crochet because it came easier than knitting to me. When I watched the first video of your tiny doll sweaters I bought your book with the dolls “Knit & Crochet Garden”....well then I became excited about every week and watch all your videos. Now you are cooking with cabbage and I am so happy because I need to eat better & cook better foods for myself and my hubby... lol Anyhow I have to tell you that you have brightened my life up!!! I am fighting a bone infection in my foot and trying to do something to get myself on track and do things God would be happy with... that sounds dumb. But you keep me looking forward- the both of you guys are truly beautiful people who care about what you’re sharing with us in the world.. I ask you to keep up the wonderful videos and stay blessed dear men. You make my day each day since I feel like I have friends over there and can reach out and tell you that you have my heart..... love you guys thanks for everything.. thanks so much for inspiration for what is important in life. You’re my blessing. Also the main thing I’m making this wonderful recipe for next week, I’ll tell you how mine turns out. Thanks so much again for all you do Terri Christensen, Vale Oregon USA Btw I am in my 50’s so it’s been a long time since I knitted Hahalol Tytyty
I'm going to have to source some local lamb and cabbage from the farmers market. I've been craving this dish for some time now. It was one of my favourites growing up. We used to be able to get flatbread to eat with it, but sadly the importer said he can't get it at a reasonable price anymore. We live in Canada. The apple cider is an excellent idea. Growing up, the adults had cold beer and the children had cold milk😂😋
I just want to give you a big hug for coming to the Boston Knitting Guild, you two guys are so down to earth and very easy to talk to. Arne, I hope you will read about my Native roots the Wampanoag. And I have made your soup (Farikal ) which my family ate for supper I am looking for more Nordic dishes coming soon. As ever, Mai Chang
Mai Chang. It was lovely to meet you too, and we hope to see you again soon. I (Arne) have Googled your people this evening and I find it so interesting. We are so glad we met you!! 🤗
I had to laugh so hard when I saw Arnie’s eye roll. My Tim makes me do the same thing at times. I’m sorry that I can’t help it but I do it with, like you say Carlos, loooove. Cheers to you both. And thank you for cooking for us.
If I can find some good lamb, I will be making this! It reminds me of a dish my English grandmother used to make called Bubble and Squeak - thanks so much for sharing!!
Hello Carlos and Arne! I love all your videos. Thank you for all the great information about Knitting, gardening and cooking Norwegian food. My great grandmother and grandmother were Norwegian. Do you ever make lefse? I only make it at Christmas but would like to make it more often. How often do you have it to eat? I think you two are terrific! Thanks again.
I thoroughly enjoyed this episode. Dinner looks scrumptious with the lamb and apple cider. I will try this recipe soon. Arne looks like a kid in a candy store as he waits impatiently to enjoy supper :)
I have made this fantastic dish so many times since I watched your video. Made it again yesterday and I fell asleep while waiting for it to cook gently on our fireplace. Probably simmered for 5 hours. It was the best ever! What an amazing dish. Thanks so much from me and all my family. XXXX 😍😍😍😍
@@ARNECARLOS maybe ... I'm mostly Irish but I think your Norwegian ancestors were travelling folks ... Norwegians are famously tall but I'm 167cm. Probably more leprechaun than viking. XXXX 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hi Lovely Arne and Carlos, another wonderful episode which I really enjoyed. I haven’t heard of this dish but it looks very wholesome and nutritious. I have been a vegetarian for over 50years so won’t be cooking this dish. As always you Guys are so entertaining, you make me chuckle and I really look forward to watching you every week. You are like old friends both of you. I hope you had a wonderful evening with your guests. Have a wonderful week ahead. Sending you both lots of loves and hugs from the U.K. xxxxxxxxx 🙋🏻😘❤️ Dorothy
Hello Arnes & Carlos! I just realized you have a TH-cam channel - yes, late to the party - and I have literally spent the entire week marathon watching your videos and have enjoyed every single one! I must try this dish, as my husband is part Norwegian (his grandmother is from Flisa), and I have been trying to master the cookies and traditional dishes so our daughter can learn about this part of their heritage. Thank you so much for teaching us! By the way, I have every one of your knitting books and love them!
Awesome Guys! I just did something similar tonight as well. Here in Michigan we have whats called “Boiled Dinner” -although I don’t know how popular it is, but we take cabbage, potatoes, carrots, onions, cauliflower (sometimes broccoli) and green beans, green peppers (bell peppers) and sometimes add something like a ham steak, or a pork shoulder roast, or a hunk of beef leftover, or a hunk of meat that needs to be used from the freezer, but not always meat-sometimes just the veggies, and just let it all boil til everything is done. We add garlic, fresh ground pepper, pink or grey salt, and sometimes a little Adobo seasoning if the garlic is old has lost its kick. I avoid ham, because I don’t like it, but a pork or beef roast works well. Our family was never big on lamb, but its not quite as common here I guess. I wish I could have been there just to smell the aroma! Loved this video guys, thanks!
I am from Nova Scotia Canada and many people [including me] enjoy lamb. It's a connection with our Celtic roots. Thank you for sharing! It looks divine!
Thank you for this video/recipe - We really enjoy both lamb & cabbage so I’m going to try making it for my hubby! I just love how versatile you two are - not just knitting but sewing, quilting embroidery, cooking and probably lots of other crafts you enjoy! Inspiring!
How wonderful!! As some one else mentioned my family in the states has made something similar but instead of lamb we use pork. Your table setting is beautiful and so inviting! Enjoy your meal! Arne is so cute! He is ready to eat now!!
Love lamb and love cabbage sautéed with bacon so I know I will love this dish. Perhaps a great dish to serve on "Arne and Carlos Day" next year! But I won't be waiting until next Oct. 7th to try it!!! Thank you for sharing. It really sounds delicious.
Hjertelig velbekomme . hhhhm ! How I wished I were one of your guests ;-) Sheep's meet isn't easy to get in this very rural part of Denmark, but as soon as I find some, I will surely invite some good friends and make fårikål . Great idea to serve applecidar with cabbage ! Thankyou very much !
Dear Arne and Carlos, Thank you for this wonderful and interesting video. I am definitely going to try this recipe. I think it is excellent. love to you both Ann in South Australia. x
I'm cooking this dish right now, and wow, now I understand why Arne was looking forward to it so much. It is smelling delicious and is perfect for this very cold day :)
Hi Arne & Carlos I love your blue dishes. If ever your done with them I'd like to have them. I love watching your videos. I wish the video or one would purl slower for me to see how its done. I love your videos.
you both never fail to delight me. I make a similar dish with the only change being pork chops instead of lamb. A warm and welcoming table surrounded by friends and good simple food makes for the best of times.
as an addition to my previous comment, I re-watched this tonight and I've been reading a lovely little book on Hygge. Surely this cozy meal with friends is the definition of Hygge....
Maybe one day you'll write a book with instructions about how to cook, knit/crochet your favourite dishes... the latter would be great for kids' grocery store😎😎
Oh my, that looks SO GOOD! Lamb is hard to find around here, which is beef country that tolerates chicken and occasionally crawfish. Would lamb shanks work for this dish? And do you ever add wine or lager as part of the liquid? And the boiled potatos, YUMMMMMMM. It's interesting to me that it's similar to some Irish dishes, but of course Ireland was settled in part by Scandinavians.
I love you guys! Poor Arne was starving for his favorite food and I would love to try this recipe, thank you Carlos for showing us how to make this dish.
Hi guys, that looks good, I will try your recipe. I love your kitchen you have an amazing well decorated house. Thank you for sharing and have a wonderful knitting week.

Thank you Gregory!

That dish looks so good! I'm trying it this week...
Looks great! I will have to try that
Love your china ♥ it's stunning. I love simple B&W.
you both never fail to delight me. I make a similar dish with the only change being pork chops instead of lamb. A warm and welcoming table surrounded by friends and good simple food makes for the best of times.
I use center cut spare ribs ., delicious😍
Love it. Wish I was there.
Looks delicious. Thank you for sharing. I love your kitchen with the hen pictures and beautiful china 💕
Thank yoi!
Adding this recipe to my collection.....yummo
It sure is!
Great show
Wow- great thinking!
Love to learn about traditional cooking!
Glad you liked it!
as an addition to my previous comment, I re-watched this tonight and I've been reading a lovely little book on Hygge.
This was lovely. As Lucy Wright said, if you would like, please do more videos like this one.
Thank you for inviting us into your home this beautiful fall day.
Look so delicious! I just found out there's Norwegian in my family.
Congratulations, we all need a Norwegian in our family!
