Today, we’ll show you five common mistakes made by young players, and explain how you can avoid them. You’re watching all attack!
- Shooting off a poor touch -
Many times, young players will take shots even when their set up touch is poor.
Don’t do this.
When you set yourself for a shot, your touch should be 2-4 feet away from you. This will give you enough space to unleash your strike.
If your first touch is too far away from you [shot], or gets stuck under your feet, you just shouldn’t take the shot [head shot]. Because your strike will probably end up looking something like this.
- Passing to someone under pressure -
Just because you can pass to someone, doesn’t mean you should.
Many young players will pass the ball to a teammate, even when that teammate is under pressure from the opposition.
You should always look for someone with space to receive the ball. If you don’t, you’ll be the one responsible for the loss of possession.
- Not Moving to Support -
A common problem players have is that they don’t move into a good position to receive the ball.
Standing behind defenders doesn’t help anybody. And it will lead to you never getting the ball, and eventually, to you sitting on the bench.
So remember, always make sure to get into a position that will be helpful for your teammates.
- Turning into players -
Sometimes players receive the ball, and turn without knowing what’s behind them.
Now ideally, you would be aware of the whole field, and you would turn your body to the side when receiving the ball.
But if you do happen to get the ball, and you don’t know what’s behind you. Then just pass it back your teammate. Because if you’re not sure, then it’s not worth the risk of losing the ball, especially if you’re a midfielder.
- Not adjusting for the wind -
If you’re playing into a strong wind, you probably want to avoid long shots, and long passes high in the in the air.
The wind slows down the ball down dramatically, making your shots weaker, and stopping your passes from reaching their intended target.
So next time you’re going against the wind, try and keep the ball on the ground.
- Letting the ball Bounce -
When a ball is dropping from the air, some players let the ball bounce before controlling it. This is a mistake
Letting it bounce make it more difficult to control, and gives your opponents a chance to steal the ball.
So when a ball comes to you in the air, make sure to control the ball, and get it on the ground as fast as possible.

On Mistake #2, we should have said you shouldn’t pass to players who CLEARLY are not in a good position to receive the ball. You CAN pass the ball to someone under pressure if they’re ready to hold up the ball, touch it back, or play a one-two.
I would try to do a one two with my teammate and he would hold the ball and lose it. Canadians are not smart and it's so annoying

I dont think that you will see this but REMEMBER you will not be good from the beginning (youll not play naturally probably)but dont surrender if you will do bad youll only improve If you keep grinding 💪💪good luck m8

Exactly if you see a teammate getting rushed by 2 defenders . Pass to feet and he should pass it’s back with his first touch , this removes those two player from the other team and means there out of position .
Coach always says when we have no one to pass it too always pass to the closes player who is under pressure.. he should be able to first touch pass back and the players applying pressure are now out of position leaving space for build up

Love the video. I can also add that Your teammates should communicate with you EVERYTIME and tell you that there is someone right behind you. I know I can be aware that someone is right behind me but you never know if they end up pressuring someone else while I receive the ball, I will look stupid to pass it back the defender when no one is pressuring me. It’s easier for my teammate to tell me to turn around and move the game forward. Always communicate, it a team effort.❤️🙏

I think a common mistake is not communicating with teammates during a game. Nothing wrong with saying "hot behind you" or "behind", or "you got time" "on your left" etc. Whatever you would want to hear from your teammates ... they also want/need to hear it. The terms used in a game should be the same used in practice scrimmage games, your coach should help develop a standard team vocabulary for on field communication. Communication is not a weakness it is a key to winning.

Nice video! Just a couple of things, if you’re a striker #1 shouldn’t apply to you. As a striker you need to have your presence known on the field, good first touch or not you SHOULD shoot, who knows what can happen! #2 there’s variables to it, if you’re giving the ball to a pressured player could be beneficial as it attracts opposition leave other teammates open. You just have to know that the player is fast, smart, and skilled enough to retain the ball and pass to the open player.

1:40 ..damn I did that mistake yesterday on the match..there was enough space for me to pass maybe 2 defenders and shoot but nah I decided to pass the ball to my teamate who had 2 players by his side

You can pass to someone under pressure if you have a 3rd man to pass to. Here you can teach how to deal with the ball under presure. Another situation where you can pass to a player that is pressed is anywhere near a striking zone, the player is 1v1 with the defender on his back. Use your body to pivot him, protect the ball putting your body between the ball and the defender. There's a video of Lukaku explaining this against Carragher. In that situation of 1v2, you attracted the 2 defenders to the ball, now you have to teach the guy on the ball how to pass quickly to the free player, and teach the free player to dirble pass the line of pressure of those 2 defenders on the 1st touch.

For number 2 it’s perfectly fine to pass to a teammate with a man on his back. He can either hold it up or one touch back to him to get the ball flowing and give other teammates time to make runs or get open
You’re correct. We were assuming he was surrounded by multiple players and there wasn’t much space or opportunity. Sorry if that was not clear, we only have so many people to film with

I have a football tournament today,I rly trusted this video a lot after kaby recommendations abt mistakes,so I rly hope this helps🙂
there are also some missing mistakes which are usually found in the game as well:
#7: not passing the ball to a teammate who has the least pressure put onto him.
#8: players keep on dribbling the ball with teammates running with the player whilst confronting the keeper even if there are so many rooms to create a Tiki-Taka Goal.
#9: receiving the ball where it is within the last line of defenders - resulting in offsides - complete loss of ball possession by legal means.
