I remember back in 1975 sitting in a darkened auditorium at Henry Ford Community College seeing Scorsese's Mean Streets for the first time. This song came on and I nearly came out of my skin, it was beyond thrilling. Remembering Ronnie Spector on the day of her passing.
This Movie Changed My Life. From The First Time I Saw It, In October 1973, At The Cheri Theatre In Boston Until I Moved To Los Angeles, In October 1975, I Must Have Seen It Over 50+ Times. Scorsese Made A Film Which Was PERSONAL And It Resonated Deeply Within Me. "Mean Streets" Inspired Me To Become An Actor. Dreams Into Action. Forever Grateful To The Master, Martin Scorsese, For His Vision, Passion And Artistry.
I remember watching this movie at home and thinking it was pretty good but I went to my local cinema and saw a screening of it in 35mm and my appreciation for it and its opening scene grew on a whole other level
The balls on Martin Scorsese - used this song without permission from Phil Spector for what was an obscure independent film at the time. Spector must've been impressed.
This opening is the best with the scenes n be my baby it Droops me out too much!!!!! Time Machine needed right here!!!!, ya hear!!!!be good!!!!🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🐘🐼🐬🐻🐳🐕🐅🐖🐄
Ronnie you put up with a lot, but there is one thing that the ghost of Phil can't take away from you! And that was your voice! The poetry that is original is yours! Damn lady! I wish that I was there to play the guitar for you! That would have been enough!
The intro draw you in immediately.. Harvey looked hella good when he was younger just as the punk Johnny boy. Scorsese's always knew how to choice great songs. Who do we have the day Scorsese is gone.
No one but the thing about great filmmakers is they have unique voices and ways of putting images together. Scorcese, Kubrick, Welles, Tarantino, Coppola, Wes Anderson will never be replicated ever again and that's great because it means new filmmakers can be inspired by their work and project their own unique voices onto the screen.
Most of the songs used in the picture's score were ripped from Scorsese vinyls (in the HD version you can actually hear the needle going into the groove), so it may be the case that the distortion comes from the weathered disk.
You can just pick out all the things that make Scorsese the filmmaker he is. His style was always there. You get little bits of Goodfellas and Taxi Driver in here.

This opening chilled me as a kid, now with Ronnie's passing.... it's time well spent.

This is the quintessential gritty 70s movie. Great song.
Someone needs to make an edit with this opening scene but replace the footage with every Martin Scorsese movie just to show how far he has come
Absolutely one of my favorite openings to a film ever

"Be My Baby" The Best Song Produced of PHIL SPECTOR
Traduction: I think Martin Scorsese uses the violence as an art
There is not a lot of violence in this film. Also it's translation, not traduction
This opening scene will be always special

Is it me or does the production on this track sound more 'intense' or distorted than the usual production of this song?
I don't know. Maybe.
Yeah there's really loud heavy distortion on this audio. It's just as loud as the song lol
It makes it seem more real: back then audio was distorted on radios n shit I think
No, it's exactly like the original
