What she did say was that after she finished the 6th album and tour she was contracted for she was ready to walk away. Had they been honest and fair in dealing with her needs and desires well that world is not this one. Tarja is bigger then one band and style and is happy now Living the Dream. l love Tarja ❤ She is an incredible singer and a sweet person. One of the most famous live Nightwish performances with her is "The Phantom of the Opera", recorded on the dvd "End of an Era", the same that you just watched. Great job Valerie. Tarja is very special. Classic and such a unique vocal sound for a metal band. Some of Tarja's great songs are "The Siren, Wishmaster, Sleeping Sun, Phantom of the Opera, and of course Walking in the Air". Tarja does do some head banging, but in a much less aggressive style. You need to listen to the songs Slaying the dreamer and The siren from this concert, Tarja also knows how to experiment with her voice. I also recommend Tarja's solo work, in her solo career she is completely different, sings and experiments with different styles. P.S. Tarja received several types of education in Chamber music, not opera. She studied at the Sibelius Academy in her homeland in Finland and the Karlsruhe University of Music in Germany.

Watch "Slaying the Dreamer", from the same End of an Era concert. Tarja does her style of headbanging, not to mention she completely owned the song. Also, "the Siren", "Phantom of the Opera", and "Sleeping Sun", all from the same concert. You'll be glad you did!
Slaying the Dreamer is actually poor vocals-wise for Tarja. It's mostly spoken lyrics for her, the operatic part is in the staccato, but that's it. I'd think a vocal coach has interests to singing.
She was goth-girls' idol, and you can see why. But not all lady-like! You haven't seen enough Tarja, especially her solo career: she does headbang (did in NW too), not every song but it's not rare either, she wears rock leather outfits (wore in NW too) and goes wild on the stage. In Tuomas' songs he has a lot of this duality, a good and innocent person and a dark seducer: I think they wanted to give to NW fans an image kind of an angel (which was Tarja's pseudonyme in the band too).

I think Tarja is fabulous! she has a lot of feeling and has a lot of beautiful songs with nigthwish: the siren, passion and the opera (the version of her solo career because it is remastered), sleeping sun, ghost love Score etc. Still, I would like you to see songs from her solo career. It is difficult to choose only one song: victim of ritual, innocence, supremacy, in for a kill, serene, anteroom of death, etc etc.

But people who watch reaction videos sure have. You're right. She is classically trained to seeing Eli and music. There's different types of classical music that people aren't aware of. Lead usually needs just a piano and a very powerful voice that can fit an entire hall. Opera, needs a voice that I can overpower the orchestra as well as fill the entire hom you're right. Well, not quite FULL opera though. I think Stargazers is the most operatic song they had and yeah that's very operatic. Also 10the Man Down I watched a live performance, that was quite operatic too. Otherwise, she does have that operatic technique, the vibrato and legato, but outside the staccatos she doesn't much sing with that full open mouth and opera volume from the chest. Like in Nemo for example not at all. And this Nemo is much more operatic than the album version. Edit: about Nemo, actually I meant to say "than the music video version". Because I seldom listen Once the album, and remember much better the music video.
Tarja and Floor have both their own style. Singing is not competition:). All Nightwish singers have give their own thing to band. More Tarja songs maybe: Slaying the dreamer, Planet Hell and Sleeping Sun. You have not heard their second singer Annette yet? Agree with Nemo!!! Also, I prefer 3 other songs with Tarja - Sleeping Sun, The Siren and Over The Hills And Far Away. Floor is equally as amazing, in her own way and she may be more versatile.
If you're working through all three singers and would like something rather different then try Nightwish with Annette singing Slow Love Slow at the Montreaux Jazz Festival in 2012. As many commentators have said before, Tuomas knows how to write music to get the best from the singer and I love the two Annette albums.
The group Therion is considered the first symphonic metal band which formed in 1987. Toumas of Nightwish has said that Therion was a huge influence on him . Check out Therion " Sitra Ahra " , " Birth of Venus Illegitima " , or " Rise of Sodam and Gomorrah " .

Do you remember there was something about doctor? I don't remember doctor mentined from the interview where she was speaking about the flu in End of an Era. Maybe I have forgotten it, or it was another video. Tooi bad I didn't bookmark the video where that is a topic. She didn't mention doctor in her open letter either, where she mentioned being sick.
I also don't like to judge singers in terms of who is better than someone else - I prefer to talk in the language of whose singing I prefer - that way it makes it clear I'm not making some sort of an objective argument over the relative quality of singers, but rather expressing what I enjoy best. I mostly prefer Floor in Nightwish songs, but "Nemo" is Tarja all the way!
actually, they have decided that she no longer fit their bill when she refused to put her vocal and overall health in jeopardy by embarking on long , exhaustive tours....9 months prior to the separation the decision was made and not one bothered to afford her that courtesy

No, she did give her notice and was leaving from Nightwish but it wasn't for her own career wishes. According to Tarja they had problems many years before the actual break up, according to Marcelo they were about to break during the Wishmaster tour already. Tarja and Anette both complained that the world tours were too intense for their vocals and health, according to Marco's books they had arguments each time Tarja suggested cutting tours shorter. The straw that broke the camel's back according to Marco was the flight from Toronto to Helsinki. Tarja had told the band she doesn't want to continue the tour further to Japan and Australia, Marco wrote: "cun_t, I burned my sleeves. I had been watching this acting out for so long, and when I was sleepy and not quite sober, I told that I quit. I couldn't take her unwillingness any more. This is what Marko wrote about that: "everyone were pissed limitlessly. The cancellation of American tour meant big hole in the touring earnings, and this happened right when the best album of the band was rising there. This meant losing the biggest market in the world" www.is.fi/viihde/art-2000005405485.html Tarja and Marcelo also tried to cut smaller gigs from the tours, but that was met with the same resistance. For example, the band blamed (well, Tuomas was the writer of the letter, but others signed) the Oslo gig was an "ultimate example" of Tarja breaking her promises and underestimating her fans. They claimed that Tarja rather hang out with her friends, went to movies and vocal rehearsals than did a gig with the band. What happened, was when Marcelo was told in email by the band manager that the gig would be for 1500 people only, he replied that there's no interest (from Tarja) to that gig. The band manager replied that the gig is sold out, it's not Marcelo who runs the show, and nobody thought he would decline. So Tarja cancelled her previous plans, did come to Oslo and she sang there: this part was also left out from the open letter, we were left with the idea Tarja didn't come there. Everyone in the band had their side projects and bands. Marko had and has his band Tarot and also bands Sinergy and Northern Kings. He has also made a solo album and is an unofficial member of Dutch band Delain. Emppu has his band Brother Firetribe and was a member in Barilari, Almah and Altaria. Tuomas had most of all projects playing with and composing to other bands and artists, had his band project For My Pain, recorded his solo album and now he has with Troy and his wife a folk band called Auri. So surely Tarja could have done her other projects too. After all, one problem she told, that she was left only with the vocalist's job, otherwise she felt like a "visiting musician" in the band (Tuomas' angle to this is quite different in the letter). After she left her notice, I'm pretty sure she started to work for her after NW-career. Took her 2 years after the break up to release her own album, possibly she was working for it in the end of her NW era. If you ask me, Tuomas knew they would fire Tarja already before they released "Once" album. The cover of Once has a weeping angel her bowed head on a pillar, that says "Once". Well, Tarja's pseudonyme is Angel, and it was used Tuomas in the song lyrics too. Also in this song, "Nemo," has it in lyrics that Tuomas sees the break up. He told the song is about him sometimes being a lost, but when one looks at the lyrics, it is a song about a lost love. In the lyrics, he becomes the "no-one" who lost his everything and hopes to return the past, dream again and sleep with the angels. Also the flower of eternal love, revisited in the song "Amaranth" gets a role in the song, being left in the very beginning in the story, between the pages of two and three. Nemo sailing home and letting go, is however the reality. There's many songs where Tuomas dreams about his love interest, and quite a few break up songs too. Anette's first album has about half a dozen songs that still handle the break up.

I understand that reaction channel people go to the most viewed videos. But Tarja had a flu in that concert and her vocals and performance did suffer of it. There are other videos nowadays with about as good quality, and definately better vocal quality for her. For example Download Festival 2005 would have been a better choise. Or Taubertal Festival 2005.
I also think comparing is something odd in music. Who's the best is something that belongs to sports or some place where you can measure the results. But music is about emotions, and tastes - so who is the best there is really so subjective. Liked your chocolate, strawberry & vanilla comparison.
Other songs belong to Tarja as well: Slaying the Dreamer, the Siren, Phantom of the Opera, among others. No one else makes them as strong and full and beautiful as she does.

she quit in 2003 and they convinced her to stay to save the glee..then they betrayed her loyalty and got kicked in the teeth....it will never be the same without her in their name..now they are a folk band that tries to sound good but they can not find the right hook..dragging Floor down with them...soon she'll be headlining the Dutch pop emblem....

Nightwish was not first in combining classical soprano voices with metal. Besides Therion, which is quite different in style I think, I would draw your attention to The 3rd And The Mortal, which formed in 1993 with Kari Rueslåtten (pronounced RUE-eh-SLAW-ten) on vocals. They released an EP and an album in 1994, before she left the band. It would be really cool if you would do a reaction to some of the music from that album, either "Atupoema" or "Death-Hymn". Who was the soprano who sang in Therion? I suppose that's then in their 1996 album, because I read earlier their music wasn't yet symphonic metal style.

Yes, Tarja (pronounced more like Taria) and Floor are just different. Nightwish would not be the same today without her. Tuomas says the plan was to be an acoustic band until she showed up with the operatic voice. Well actually Tarja started her singing studies, in a special school for it, in Savonlinnan taidelukio (Savonlinna highschool of arts) 1993 - 1995.
Check out "Passion and the Opera " live by Tarja! It's amazing. Tarja also sings Ave Maria flawlessly so it's worth checking out, too! There are countless live performances of her singing that song here on TH-cam. She has also composed her own, hauntingly beautiful version of Ave Maria.
l love Tarja ❤ She is an incredible singer and a sweet person. One of the most famous live Nightwish performances with her is "The Phantom of the Opera", recorded on the dvd "End of an Era", the same that you just watched. Great job Valerie. Tarja is very special. Classic and such a unique vocal sound for a metal band. Some of Tarja's great songs are "The Siren, Wishmaster, Sleeping Sun, Phantom of the Opera, and of course Walking in the Air". Tarja does do some head banging, but in a much less aggressive style. Wonderfully done my friend.

You need to listen to the songs Slaying the dreamer and The siren from this concert, Tarja also knows how to experiment with her voice. I also recommend Tarja's solo work, in her solo career she is completely different, sings and experiments with different styles.
P.S. Tarja received several types of education in Chamber music, not opera. She studied at the Sibelius Academy in her homeland in Finland and the Karlsruhe University of Music in Germany.

She was goth-girls' idol, and you can see why. But not all lady-like! You haven't seen enough Tarja, especially her solo career: she does headbang (did in NW too), not every song but it's not rare either, she wears rock leather outfits (wore in NW too) and goes wild on the stage. In Tuomas' songs he has a lot of this duality, a good and innocent person and a dark seducer: I think they wanted to give to NW fans an image kind of an angel (which was Tarja's pseudonyme in the band too).

But people who watch reaction videos sure have. None of Tarja's solo career songs are yet reacted too many times, but there's this very narrow few people always suggest, and there's a few hundred good enough quality videos in youtube one could suggest.
This dark soprano voice reminds me of why I fell in love with Nightwish. I miss those times. I had the honor to listen to her live in concert with Nightwish, a moment I will never forget. Floor is good too.

You're right. She is classically trained to seeing Eli and music. There's different types of classical music that people aren't aware of. Lead usually needs just a piano and a very powerful voice that can fit an entire hall. Opera, needs a voice that I can overpower the orchestra as well as fill the entire hom you're right. Well, not quite FULL opera though. I think Stargazers is the most operatic song they had and yeah that's very operatic. Also 10the Man Down I watched a live performance, that was quite operatic too. Otherwise, she does have that operatic technique, the vibrato and legato, but outside the staccatos she doesn't much sing with that full open mouth and opera volume from the chest. Like in Nemo for example not at all. And this Nemo is much more operatic than the album version. Edit: about Nemo, actually I meant to say "than the music video version". Because I seldom listen Once the album, and remember much better the music video.

If you're working through all three singers and would like something rather different then try Nightwish with Annette singing Slow Love Slow at the Montreaux Jazz Festival in 2012. As many commentators have said before, Tuomas knows how to write music to get the best from the singer and I love the two Annette albums.

The group Therion is considered the first symphonic metal band which formed in 1987. Toumas of Nightwish has said that Therion was a huge influence on him . Check out Therion " Sitra Ahra " , " Birth of Venus Illegitima " , or " Rise of Sodam and Gomorrah " .

I also don't like to judge singers in terms of who is better than someone else - I prefer to talk in the language of whose singing I prefer - that way it makes it clear I'm not making some sort of an objective argument over the relative quality of singers, but rather expressing what I enjoy best.

actually, they have decided that she no longer fit their bill when she refused to put her vocal and overall health in jeopardy by embarking on long , exhaustive tours....9 months prior to the separation the decision was made and not one bothered to afford her that courtesy

No, she did give her notice and was leaving from Nightwish but it wasn't for her own career wishes. According to Tarja they had problems many years before the actual break up, according to Marcelo they were about to break during the Wishmaster tour already. Tarja and Anette both complained that the world tours were too intense for their vocals and health, according to Marco's books they had arguments each time Tarja suggested cutting tours shorter. The straw that broke the camel's back according to Marco was the flight from Toronto to Helsinki. Tarja had told the band she doesn't want to continue the tour further to Japan and Australia, Marco wrote: "cun_t, I burned my sleeves. I had been watching this acting out for so long, and when I was sleepy and not quite sober, I told that I quit. I couldn't take her unwillingness any more. In the open letter the band blamed Tarja saying she could leave the band any moment, but they omitted saying that Marko announced he would quit. Another Time Tarja suggested cutting off North America from the world tour. This is what Marko wrote about that: "everyone were pissed limitlessly. The cancellation of American tour meant big hole in the touring earnings, and this happened right when the best album of the band was rising there. Tarja and Marcelo also tried to cut smaller gigs from the tours, but that was met with the same resistance. For example, the band blamed (well, Tuomas was the writer of the letter, but others signed) the Oslo gig was an "ultimate example" of Tarja breaking her promises and underestimating her fans. They claimed that Tarja rather hang out with her friends, went to movies and vocal rehearsals than did a gig with the band. What happened, was when Marcelo was told in email by the band manager that the gig would be for 1500 people only, he replied that there's no interest (from Tarja) to that gig. The band manager replied that the gig is sold out, it's not Marcelo who runs the show, and nobody thought he would decline. So Tarja cancelled her previous plans, did come to Oslo and she sang there: this part was also left out from the open letter, we were left with the idea Tarja didn't come there.
Everyone in the band had their side projects and bands. Marko had and has his band Tarot and also bands Sinergy and Northern Kings. He has also made a solo album and is an unofficial member of Dutch band Delain. Emppu has his band Brother Firetribe and was a member in Barilari, Almah and Altaria. Tuomas had most of all projects playing with and composing to other bands and artists, had his band project For My Pain, recorded his solo album and now he has with Troy and his wife a folk band called Auri. So surely Tarja could have done her other projects too. After all, one problem she told, that she was left only with the vocalist's job, otherwise she felt like a "visiting musician" in the band (Tuomas' angle to this is quite different in the letter). After she left her notice, I'm pretty sure she started to work for her after NW-career. Took her 2 years after the break up to release her own album, possibly she was working for it in the end of her NW era.
If you ask me, Tuomas knew they would fire Tarja already before they released "Once" album. The cover of Once has a weeping angel her bowed head on a pillar, that says "Once". Well, Tarja's pseudonyme is Angel, and it was used Tuomas in the song lyrics too. Also in this song, "Nemo," has it in lyrics that Tuomas sees the break up. He told the song is about him sometimes being a lost, but when one looks at the lyrics, it is a song about a lost love. In the lyrics, he becomes the "no-one" who lost his everything and hopes to return the past, dream again and sleep with the angels. Also the flower of eternal love, revisited in the song "Amaranth" gets a role in the song, being left in the very beginning in the story, between the pages of two and three. Nemo sailing home and letting go, is however the reality. There's many songs where Tuomas dreams about his love interest, and quite a few break up songs too. Anette's first album has about half a dozen songs that still handle the break up.

I understand that reaction channel people go to the most viewed videos. But Tarja had a flu in that concert and her vocals and performance did suffer of it. There are other videos nowadays with about as good quality, and definately better vocal quality for her. For example Download Festival 2005 would have been a better choise. Or Taubertal Festival 2005.
I also think comparing is something odd in music. Who's the best is something that belongs to sports or some place where you can measure the results. But music is about emotions, and tastes - so who is the best there is really so subjective.

I appriciate both singers with a slight preference for Floor, but Sleeping Sun belongs to Tarja. Please react to Sleeping Sun.
Other songs belong to Tarja as well: Slaying the Dreamer, the Siren, Phantom of the Opera, among others. No one else makes them as strong and full and beautiful as she does.
This was great to watch! Perhaps you'd be interested to see both Tarja and Floor singing together, theyre good friends and they did a performance of Over the Hills and Far Away on the MFVF back in 2013

Tuomas kicked her out of the band... the rest of the band and she didn't get along in the end.
she quit in 2003 and they convinced her to stay to save the glee..then they betrayed her loyalty and got kicked in the teeth....it will never be the same without her in their name..now they are a folk band that tries to sound good but they can not find the right hook..dragging Floor down with them...soon she'll be headlining the Dutch pop emblem....

I counter-suggest Sleeping Sun from anywhere else rather than the flu-concert where she sings the 2005 remake version of the song, wihout vibrato and legato.

Nightwish was not first in combining classical soprano voices with metal. Besides Therion, which is quite different in style I think, I would draw your attention to The 3rd And The Mortal, which formed in 1993 with Kari Rueslåtten (pronounced RUE-eh-SLAW-ten) on vocals. They released an EP and an album in 1994, before she left the band. It would be really cool if you would do a reaction to some of the music from that album, either "Atupoema" or "Death-Hymn". There are no live videos of high quality of this band of that era, nor any music videos, so you would have to use the straight album versions:

Who was the soprano who sang in Therion? I suppose that's then in their 1996 album, because I read earlier their music wasn't yet symphonic metal style.

@@eckligt I know they had symphony orchestras and choirs involved with their 1996 album, but I don't know if they had female operatic singer. I haven't yet listened Therion.

Yes, Tarja (pronounced more like Taria) and Floor are just different. Nightwish would not be the same today without her. Tuomas says the plan was to be an acoustic band until she showed up with the operatic voice.
