To help others. It is not clear in the directions on how to get this DAC into setup mode/menu. You unplug it. Hold the volume button in and while doing so, plug it in. The setup menu is the only place to select DAC mode, fixed volume m-d mode.
I love this amp/dac... It's an amazing piece of audio equipment.. It's simply amazing at it's price point. I think it's one of the best deals in iem/headphone audio right now.
I just thought of this, but I have a DAC/Amp that seems like it’s flying under the radar, and it’s called the iFi Zen Air. It’s USB powered, and I use it as my all in one desktop headphone DAC/Amp. It was released this year, and it’s $100 in the US. Maybe you could review it at some point? Thanks.
Great review! I have a the Ifi Zen DAC V2 on the way which also cost 200€. However I just ordered one of these for the same price. I am totally new to this scene and it will be paired with my Sennheiser HD 660S. When connected via USB, can you control the volume using the Win10 sound mixer /volume knob on keyboard or is it completely greyed out like on the Ifi Zen DAC V2? I.e. you can only adjust the volume via the the Dac/amp? Also is the front panel plastic or metal?
Thanks very much and a friend has this at the moment. You can control volume in the Windows sound mixer but it's only volume to the DAC essentially. Also there is a new Topping E30 II and L30 II out now as well.
I see from the manual that it is possible to use it in 2 ways: 1) Pre amp mode, with the possibility of adjusting the volume (default mode) 2) DAC mode, without the possibility of volume adjustment. For the moment I use it in mode 1 (pre amp), do you say that in my current configuration, that of connecting via RCA to the Yamaha as301 is the right mode? I can't understand the difference between the two modes ... Another thing that I don't understand what PCM filters are ... that is, I tried to change them but I don't hear any differences, maybe they are activated only if I use the optical or coaxial output? Because with the remote control I can change the filters and PCM appears on the display, but if I press Line Out again, the word PCM disappears.
@@VortexReviews1 it’s common with gaming headsets, you can play something on the side while I am doing whatever task. I’m assuming since you are asking, that’s not possible.

Thanks for the review!.. I just bought the DX3Pro+ and am using it with powered speakers (Jamo S801 PM).. I'm a musician so I have a kind of trained ears and my feelings is that the sound of this dac is good but weaker bass compared to using the internal Jamo's usb connection. It's a pity because of course using this dac I have more versatility but I'm not sure why I'm receiving a lack of bass. Is it a speaker or dac problem?.. is the speaker's rca input worse than using the internal speakers dac through usb?
Thanks for watching it. Good question about the RCA vs USB input and I don't know to be honest. Make sure you have the right mode on the Topping and it measures well out the back. What bit rate and HZ do you get from the Jamo when you connect to a computer?

@@VortexReviews1 Thanks for your answer. I have the Topping as a fixed dac mode with rca to the Jamo's powered speakers. The internal Jamo's dac is up to 96Hz... I tried different modes with topping (pre-amp, gain mode, fixed dac, etc) but I'm still getting weaker and no-deep bass instead of using the powered speakers internal dac to my pc. It supposed you buy a dac like topping to get better sound to your powered speakers but not the opposite. Yes, I can read on topping's a bit rate up to 32 bit/384Hz but my ears don't lie to me and the sound is not as good as using the speakers by itself.
@ Kind of strange but you can only go from your ears and if it sounds better direct into the Jamo then that's it. Has there been a firmware update for it for anything like that?

This needs to get featured more. A killer piece of gear.

I agree with that 👍
This is the best value for money. I find the sound quality better than my Topping E30 dac and Schiit Magni Heresy headphone amplifier.
It's great indeed.
Just wanted to say, love your channel. Please keep up the great work. I wouldn’t change anything about your videos 👍

The filters make such a small difference. It can do line out and pre amp.
Is the knob metallic or plastic? Does is feel cheap?
Metal and not cheap.
I have the dx3pro without the +. I don’t see any difference but the 2 color screen. What are the updates in sound? What do I get from an update?
I don't have the original but a lot of the improvements and extra functionality is internal. Specs wise is meant to be quite a difference.
Can Bluetooth and dac mode be used simultaneously so you can hear both audio from the devices?
Why would you want to do that?

So the line out is a fixed signal and it won't be affected by the volume control on this device when switching between headphones and active speakers?
It can be pre-out or line-out from memory.
I don't know how to change the sample rate of the Topping DX3Pro+. How is that possible?
Just in the Windows sound settings.
Just bought one after my Schiit Heresy kept breaking. Hoping this lasts longer.
These are built well so I see no issue. Hope you like it.
Hi Vortex,
Can that volume knob reproduse all the functionalities of the remote? Or the remote is indispensable?
Remote control is necessary as far as I can tell.

@@nabilhamdi3478 It's great. Still a great deal but the UI needs to cleaned up a bit then it would be perfect.
What are the filters for?
They change the sound slightly of the DAC.
Can the display be turned off?
I am not sure to be honest and I can't check at the moment.
Hey vortex, is buying dx3 pro+ worth it just for iems? over lets say things like cheap dongle dac (cx-pro )
Hi and probably not to be honest. I have not tried that cx-pro.
That's a lot of bang for your buck!
Indeed!
