I had a science teacher that was actually a herpetologist and she had a kenyan sand boa and a tokay gecko in her classroom. Obviously the tokay was not something to handle, lol, but I got to hold and help out her kenyan sand boa and I fell in love. I haven't had a reptile in years and I'm most likely going to get that and/or a gecko when I'm able to have a reptile again. Either way, I'll have a kenyan sand boa one day
My 4th* grade teacher had a ball python, a corn snake and a bunch of zebra finches in the class room lol and she'd sometimes bring in her sugar gliders. It started my love for snakes and exotics.♥️
My 5th grade teacher had a small garter snake as a class pet, and kept great care of her (she was maybe 10" & named Fang 😆). With supervision, you could hold Fang and she was the calmest lil thing ever. Used to pleasantly wind her way between my fingers like a wicker basket, which was delightful for me as an animal loving kid, and probably nice and warm for the snake! Loved this video, thanks so much for sharing this info out there! Cheers to more cool class pets!
Great Episode! One additional word I'd like to add about the TIMERS and Thermostats you want on your pet's enclosure- they must be "smart" enough to start back up if there's a brief power outage. If power shuts off and comes back on, those need to go right back to their set temps and schedule, and not lose that data. Otherwise one outage could hurt the pet.
I remember in 5th grade our teacher had a tank full of lizards. At the time, I think we were told they were chamelons. They didn't look like chamelons. I would think maybe they were anoles. (Sp?) I remember somehow they escaped. Little lizards running in the classroom. Kids standing on top of desks shrieking. In 7th grade, we had two rabbits in science class. They started mating on a girl's desk in the middle of class.
my high school bio lab had So many reptiles in it. only some were for handling. clearly the timber rattlesnake and nile monitor were Not among the cuddley critters, nor was mr grumpypants the green iguana lol and only rarely for the retic. but the blue tongue skink was a gud boi
The only classroom pets I have ever had was frogs. Pac-Man died, dart got the lid closed on his leg and it came off, 2 dart frogs escaped. Maybe wasn’t the best idea to let the kids take care of them… have a great week Elle!
Good morning Elle, hope that you have an amazing Sunday!! Honestly cannot recall any of my teachers ever having reptiles in their classrooms which is weird lol!!
That's interesting. Throughout school we had hamsters, a corn snake, and frogs and crabs. My kids's school has a huge aquarium with a soft shelled turtle. There was also once a tarantula in high school - I definitely don't recommend those 😢 sad story, but a kid panicked and poor girl didn't make it. I hate to end that on a sad note, but I hope you have a wonderful week as well! 🥰
@@ellesreptiles we did have people doing presentations just that I can remember we never had teachers keep them lol. Tarantulas aren't horrible at all so that is sad unfortunately!! I've seen a few though that did like to bite when being held lol.
Hello Elle. I’m a second grade teacher and I love watching your videos. I now have a Rankin Dragon as a class pet. The kids love her and she seems to be very interested in them. I do take her home in the weekends and so far she seems just fine. Do you keep jumping spiders as pets? Maybe a video? Thank you for all the great videos! ❤
So as far as BPs as classroom pets, people who live down south really underestimate the humidity needs for bps. I live in alaska it is SUPER dry here and I have to provide a moist hide and misy every day. Going home for the weekend in my area means i would come back on Monday to a very dehydrated pet. Same goes for a crestie.
Great video! I have a question: What is the healthiest feeder insect to buy for leopard geckos. My leopard gecko has 2 small bubbles under her arms, I looked it up and think it is because she is eating too many mealworms since they are fatty. What feeder insect is the healthiest and not too fatty and lower in calcium? I think she is getting a bit to much calcium as well. Thanks for answering this long question lol ❤
I always recommend dubia roaches (or discoid roaches if you live somewhere where you can't get dubias). They're super healthy and they're nothing like the roaches that infest people's homes. They can't climb smooth surfaces and they don't reproduce like crazy (unless they have heat), so you don't have to worry about them escaping and becoming an issue. Roaches used to freak me out 😅, but I've never regretted switching to dubias

That's awesome! I never had teachers with birds - so cool 😍
Saw your comment on Gabbyreads Most Disappointing Reads video and now I'm here cause I do that

I have a bearded dragon and I'm planning on getting a crestie soon, your videos have been so helpful! Have a good weekend Elle!

😱 oh no! That's awful!
Not even the teacher knew how to care for them properly… it was terrible now that I think back on it…

Elle, I am so happy that you introduced me to "The Dubia Dude" and Dubia roaches!
@@ellesreptiles Thank you!
I just got a crested gecko why won’t it eat bugs?😢
Your my favorite reptile TH-camr!😅😊
You’re the best Elle I hope ur doing okay
I hope you have a wonderful week! 💜
Also how do you make a crested gecko get really fat.
i dont agree with crested geckos theyre nocturnal so they wont really be able to interact with a classroom
I talked about that in the video! 😊
Do you have aquatic turtles?
No tarantulas???
💚💜💜💜💜💚
💜💜💜💜
I don’t think classroom pets are a good idea. Just for the safety of the animals
Honestly me to
Because usually the huge animals are best for handling yet need big enclosures
Most classes are tiny

Very nice tips, are you a teacher?
I am not. I admire those who are though - I definitely couldn't do it!
Please respond!
