the red wings picking up trouba’s contract would eat up cap space and slow down the rebuild, while simultaneously making them no better than they already were. at best.
the rangers would probably have to throw in a first for the wings to even consider such a thing.
it’s not the red wings’ job to help other clubs clean up their messes.
That’s what I’m saying if anyone with cap gets traded they should do a three way deal get a team two take cap give a first or second while doing a one for one it helps the team getting rid of cap but also bring in a guy to replace him

Also, Jacob T has places in a no trade contract he won't go. His wife is doing her Dr residency and he doesn't want to leave. Why would Detroit sign a player that would not report and be stuck with his contract.
If the Rangers turned around and extended Shesterkin with that $8 mill, there isn't a Ranger fan alive that would miss Trouba.

@@chairman4953Miller’s play will improve when he’s not stuck with Trouba. We’ve already seen glimpses of that. The are garbage together but there’s a certain kind of D who can’t pass, skate, shoot, or even just hit somebody without completely erasing himself from the play, and yet carries a “shut down” reputation anyway, and that’s Trouba. And the partner of a guy like that always gets dragged down.

I think this can be a really good trade for Detroit if they give up the right amount.
Trouba is one of the very few players that in a trade for Holl the other team would have to add to even the trade.

I think the Rangers would do this in a second, even if they had to eat 25%, and I see no reason to not keep Holl as a 3rd pair option... sure he's a little expensive, but the guy has been a plus player his entire career, used to play 20+ mins a game for the Leafs, is pretty big, and a change of scenery may do him good. The Rangers would still add $3 Million to the cap in doing it, would be able to name Trocheck team captain, and be in much better shape, cap-wise, for the 25-26 season when Igor and Laffs current deals end. I can't think of nearly as many reason why the Wings would do it however.... unless they think Trouba will add a lot in the room.... which he will, but $6 Million worth?

I would do this in a heart beat as a wings fan. they are both over paid, but Trouba can actually do something. They both have 2 years remaining.. trade a guy that doesn't play for a guy that plays 20 minutes a night, with plenty of playoff experience and isn't afraid of anyone sign me up.
Stevie isn't going for him.. end of story.. buyout is for team's in rebuild mode.. this would make sense for Montreal or Columbus..

This makes no sense. Trouba is Holl 1.0 but cost $5M more a season. NYR would have to retain a ridiculous amount, throw in a first round pick and take Copp back with them too. If Detroit can immediately buy him out, which nobody really wants that kind of liability on the books, than getting a first and ridding the Holl and Copp contracts would be a nice deal🤷♂ I still cant believe SY gave Holl $10M🤦♂

Trouba has spent most of his time with the Rangers playing the way Dan Girardi did in the years when Ryan McDonagh would be Weekend-at-Bernie’s-ing him around every shift. Whoever partners Trouba immediately gets worse. As captain his greatest display of leadership was throwing his helmet in December 2022 because he was out of ideas. Oh and unlike the broken version of Girardi, Trouba also takes horrible penalties. I don’t know how Drury cons anybody into taking him but I’d be fine getting most of his cap hit off the books even if we get a bag of practice pucks back. The contract was a mistake, and doubling down by making him captain was a mistake. His paintings are kind of cool though, no joke. Learning about them made me slightly more patient with him, so imagine how I would sound if he didn’t do the paintings.
The area Wings could use some toughness, and I’m sure most would agree, and Trouba has that in spades, however that’s where the conversation ends for me. As much as I think Holl needs to go, there’s no way I would have Trouba on my team for even half that salary. A third of the guys plays have to be reviewed to see if they’re dirty and he’s either under a microscope or doesn’t show up at all. No thank you. I’d say if they can do a deal where AT LEAST half that salary is retained, ideally more, then I’m a little more inclined to hear them out. The wings already have a log jam at defense for the foreseeable future. Why don’t they hit up Utah.

Trouba would require the rangers to take a big hit to unload him to the wings. They are better off sending him to San Jose. They would need to take holl and 50 percent salary retained. Maybe more. It would be a bad trade for both parties.

If I were Yzerman, I'd swap Ben Chiarot instead of Holl. Throw in a conditional pick, have NY retain 35-50 % salary, then buyout or trade Holl to a team needing to get up to the cap floor.
Chiarot played half decent last year. Def not a great contract but I’m ok with det keeping him.
