You have no idea how happy I am to have stumbled upon this gem sir. Those 2 chords that I was playing wrong up until now, will now make me smile every time I play it, thank you. Many yrs ago I wanted to play this song for you on Q107, you wanted me to play it live on the air, for Max Webster tickets but you couldn't get your hands on any when I did return to play it. you guys are the BEST Canadian Band I never got to see live!
Thanks Kim. Summer in Ontario,,, meant that Kim Mitchell was playing at the Key to Bala. Thanks for being a big part of the soundtrack to my life. To me Kim Mitchell is as synonymous with Ontario as Neil's song "Helpless". Saw Max play to a full CNE stadium! I remember bumming around Europe for 6 months in 1980 and being so proud to turn Europeans onto one of the most original directions/sounds out there, Max Webster, at a time when most thought that there was nothing new left to be done in rock music. Thanks Kim & Pye et al. You are great Canadians 💙💙💙
One of Pye's greatest.... I lived the road a long time....and these lyrics sure do resonate "and surely once in a while ...i'd like to be alone" Peace M
I’ll never forget St Cats. 1977 We met briefly before the gig at the door I was with the cooler/ Doorman paying for the show ! Good vibes and a fantastic evening was had by all
Amazing tune. One of my favourites ever. I saw Kim and Max Webster several times living in Toronto back in the day, including at our high school in the early days. Always entertaining. Thanks for the great musical memories Kim. So may great songs.
Thanks Kim. Met you at the hard rock in TO many moons ago. Got a signed beer Stein. And my fam got a chance to chat with you on the patio for a few minutes. So gracious you are. And... seen max in concert at the venue where you met your ex. Back in '77 . I think you told us that bit. Oshawa as I recall. Many more moons ago. Anyway, Love honour respect. ✌ rock on.
One of my favorite Max songs. Was great to see/meet you and some of the band at the High Class book launch. Only your right hand knows you're left handed! CHeers
Only a Canadian rock guitar legend would be gracious,( as well as a laid-back normal guy) enough to take the time to share a few little tidbits on chord changes. Sahhh weet.
Wayyyy back in the early 90's my band did an acoustic set between the 2nd and 3rd sets. On The Road was my choice and I did the vocals. Love the song, and thanks Kim for being you, and for giving the world your music.
What a great tune... still holds up - especially as this kind of solo. Thanks for the chords too, I've been playing a couple of them wrong for years - nice to finally get them right!
Thanks, Kim.. story time: when I was in the 8th grade I went to my sister’s high school (ENSS, Brighton), stood at the front of the stage and had my face melted off at what would be my first rock show.. ears still ringing. To this day I can still time the coin toss in ‘gravity’ .. keep these up - good to see ya
Probably my favorite tune of yours -- thanks *so* much! I now know what I'm doing this weekend. I think I last saw you perform On The Road on New Year's at North York City Hall, 30 or so years ago (tho' I was also at Ontario Place for the Aural Fixations tour). (I first saw you play at York Mills C.I. about 45 years ago.) Writing this, I realize that I can't possibly be that old. Happily, your music is as fresh as ever. Thanks again.
Wow such a great tune! I would kill to see Max Webster live! I saw you play in Milton February 28 and ever since then I've been listening to Max Webster evey day! Please after this whole quarantine have a reunion!
Missing live music has really been the hardest part of this lockdown. Watching skilled musicians enjoying their craft is always a joy. Kim, I've seen you more than 10 times live, and every time, no matter how big or how small the venue, you always look like you appreciate the fans, and very often you hung around to meet fans afterwards. That's epic. Best thoughts your way, in my mind you're as much Canadian royalty as Mr Gretzky. Cheers!
Such an amazing song, beautiful chord progression and the coolest lyrics. Thanks for showing the right way to play this .... I've been trying for the last 40 years to "get" it. All the best to you Kim Mitchell!
Thanks for sharing with everyone. That song has always been a favorite and your guitar style, the lyrics and Mike Tilka's amazing bass runs it's a classic among all your classics. When will there be a definitive Max Webster documentary.
Thanks for posting this, love this song. I met you when you were touring this song, and I couldn't remember your name, I just knew it was the "GUY" from Max Webster. Loved that band, loved your career. You are a great example of what Canadians are like, glad you have had such a great career.
Holy shit this makes my day! I’m one of those “rewind the cd (in some cases cassette) back 10 seconds and play to try and pick out the chords type of dudes. When I got it right it felt like I was stealing trade secrets or something. What I would’ve given to have the actual artist make a video breaking down his own tune!
Thank-you sooo much for that. It is a fantastic song and one I love to play. (Now correctly - even better!). Huge fan of your guitar work Kim. Would love to see you and Rik E get the full props you guys deserve in that regard. Know that Canada loves you!
Btw, always wondered what was up with the clothing you wore on the HIgh Class cover! People talk about Rush's kimonos on 2112 as infamous, but hey....! lol Anyway, like I said, a huge lifetime fan of Max and your solo stuff! Really smooth effortless style of guitar playing, great voice...! Nice to see you on youtube. Actually sat my parents down long ago and forced them to listen the MW debut, and the looks on their faces with tunes like TORONTO TONTOS and HANGOVER were priceless!!!
Great song always loved it, saw you play it at Mingles in London Ontario, I did make a request on another video for you to do your new song “the best I never had’ I love the opening guitar line , thanx in advance...hopefully:)
hey kim, big big fan right back to MW days! Saw you guys many times back in the day, from cottage country to opening for Rush at MLG! Wanted to know this song for some time! I do a lot of different singing voices, including yours! lol Fantastic! Thanks for doin' this!
Thanks for the break down ! Gonna do a shout out this song and why it was important to our very own Steve Jan 20 7:30 EST A.C.R.O.N.Y.M. podcast www.elliottbrood.com
