It's way out of my price range but is still amazing to see the cutting edge of the industry. I'm surprised manufacturers dont have you consult with them. This wealth of real world use and experience is what the industry needs. Making travel trailers safer, more reliable, easier to maintain, and more fun to enjoy. Thank you for sharing.
No pantry in the living room! However, a desk is something that should be optional. Give the client the option to have 2 sofa beds or 1 sofa bed and desk.
My thoughts exactly! I would like the living room the way it is but an optional desk may be better for some. The idea is to have plenty of seating for when you have company. :)
I think putting the porch light that’s above the entry door outside above the connections and wet bay is a fantastic idea. Van, Leigh, and Chase will probably have already heard from you on that, but I’ll be sure to tell our rep and any of the others if I talk to them in the near future.
We aren't quite ready to buy yet, but it's funny you said that because I was thinking the exact same thing while watching the video!! Lol I wish we were ready right now.
Enjoy the unbiased review of the unit! The ENTIRETY of the RV industry gets lighting wrong all the way around IMO. Crime of it is, all the need to do is hire a consultant who specializes in interior lighting - it's a well established profession - and they could change everything for the better at little additional cost. At least one of the other makes you mentioned in the pricepoint will customize lighting and control to the customer.
I really like the idea of the wood paneling on the fridge, because I've found keeping fingerprints off the stainless steel is a constant struggle, but they do seem to take up a lot of space. Being able to open the fridge with the slides in is very important to us, because we'll frequently stealth camp overnight in a Walmart or truck stop and have to be able to live for a night with all the slides in. For us, the dining area is pretty much useless and instantly gets converted into an office space. I'd love to see an option for that slide to have what you were talking about in the living room - a cabinet for coats, mops, brooms and shoes conveniently located next to the door, and the rest of the space with a built in desk. Thank you for the very thorough run down - with each video we keep thinking this may very well be our next fifth wheel!
We thought the exact same thing about the living room. I agree the second sofa should be a desk for a computer. A tall cabinet is a great idea as well. I personally like the kitchen in the front of the unit!
Would suggest cup holders for the couches. I feel this is a highly looked over aspect that would have a very good positive impact on the overall relaxation experience for people
Wow, nice morning after review. You'll never get another loaner 😁. No really, a good walk thru. Thanks for adding too the home office idea. The second loveseat in almost every unit I see could just as well be a desk area with a nice office or gaming chair and area lighting appropriate for that space. After all these years of wondering whether or not I needed a washer/dryer (my current unit is a bit small and we're planning) I think I'm more sold now, than ever before. That sure is a nice unit.
I wanted a washer and dryer for a long time. We finally got one in our Montana 3791rd. My husband said he didn't think it would be worth it - but after 2 years of using them, I overheard him telling someone, it's the best purchase we could have made!
Great recap of your likes and dislikes on your maiden voyage test trip. I wasn't a big fan of the refrigerator wood accent covers either the first time I saw them. Then when the limited cabinet door opening came to light they seemed more of a hinderance than actually being useful. I totally agree that having that type of flooring is super-beneficial for future-proofing from damages, however it's also crucial that the manufacturer include at least 4-6 strips of the flooring installed in the RV. I'd gladly pay $20-$30 extra for replacement strips so that I knew it was the right style, the same batch color and it matched what is installed in the RV. A couple high-end Mfg's do include spare strips (LUXE comes to mind), but this should be a standard option for any RV over $100,000.
What about somethimg as simple as changing the bulb wattage in the closet? Also for that price it needs a dishwasher and not so sure i like the huge divider between kitchen and living room? Also how does washing effect the gray tank? Must get full quick and if it does, does the washer sense it?
Hey guys I've actually seen a vanleigh beacon in person and they are nice!!! I would compare them to a Luxe brand but I have not seen the lux. Hope to see one first of the year lux come down to Florida during the Tampa RV Super Show. Hey JD as usual awesome video👍
I’ve never understood why desks are not an option. I get that the owner could remove a sofa and install a desk but when the interior is that gorgeous I’d love my desk to match.
Truly a gorgeous high end 5th wheel. A couple of things...are the theater seats power reclining? Ours are and I wish they were not. I get it that older folks may not have the hamstring leg strength to pull the leg rest back down, but the power runs so slowly. I wish ours were not powered. Good call to option that extra sofa's space in the living room to be repurposed as a desk, etc., especially in a couple's coach. All that extra seating steered us away from RVs like this. I missed a comment on the washer/dryer video, those doors should for sure be reversible like residential. I wish some one would come up with a reversible door on a microwave oven, or even offer one which opens to the right with control panel on the left. Our home kitchen screams for that! LOL. On the exterior, our Montana has a driver side scare light which lights up the off door side nicely at night. AS for RV residential style refers, they look great, but not too terribly deep inside. Too much space used in the deep doors which are wagging around in the warmer air when opened. I would prefer deeper refer storage with not such deep doors. And of course opt away from the extending wood trim on the refer. These SS refers are gorgeous as is so show it off. Anyway, these are my thoughts. This VL RV is a dead sexy unit, JD. Enjoy your time with it.
The truma’s (instant water heaters) can be problematic depending upon general water quality , mineral content and calcium levels. They tend to work really well but as these “deposits” build up over 6-8 months they can develop issues. Some manufacturers have tried and removed them from there builds at least for a time (Jayco).
Re: Toilet Home style seats and lids are very inexpensive as the plastic rv style are cheap and hard to clean. Soft close lid and seat fit as that was one of 1st upgrades
On your main touchscreen you have dimmer switches. Not all of them dim. Hold down on a light that’s on your pad. It should have a mark by the switch on the main screen
Okay, that cabinet style fridge is absolutely asinine! That gap takes up so much space, making the fridge stick out a really far amount. Honestly it looks so bad with those shiny mirror metal trim pieces 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
So far everything is great! But the cabinets are to close to the refrigerator. The frig needs to be over a few inches and that wall of cabinets just needs to be a bigger coffee bar with a blank space before it gets to the first upper cabinet.
Our phones control so much these days, most of your issues with lighting could be solved with what we all have glued to our palms. The seating at the table......welllll, these are really aimed as couples coaches,...... we have 4 real chars , and 2 had to go in our home to save some space around the table, and they are much harder to store, better if they folded
The fridge panels are lame. It looks like they stick out about 5 inches from the actual fridge door. I'd take them off before the next trip. Is it possible to put lower intensity LED's in some of the fixtures? Or perhaps a dimmer switch?...All in all a beautiful rig. Btw, I like the way they finish off the slide edge in the kitchen instead of trying to hide it with carpet or a vinyl lip hanging over the edge, like we don't know it's there or something. Hey Vanleigh are you listening? Fix the lighting. (Switch illumination, intensity control and driver side bay lighting)
Watch out for the stove failing oven. Our GD 2021 380FL the stove failed in the first month. Pilot light goes out and lose heat. They were so far behind on those pilot light thermocouples we got a new stove instead of thermocouple.
I wouldn’t consider the washer & dryer a plus. Simply because it’s something one could have in a multitude of rigs. I’m looking for things that are unique to the Van Leigh. I agree, it looks like a high end condo.
Exterior looks great, but, the inside has way to much gray and white. I agree it has a cheap plastic look. I simply prefer the lighter more natural wood look.
My $60k Open Range 376FBH 5th wheel has a nice bright docking side light, and I saved $80k. Honestly, it's pretty, but I don't see anything more than trim and doodads better than mine.
How much laundry can you do before your gray tank is full? What will happen if you are doing your laundry but your gray tank is full? Will the washer stop draining?
You use the gray line drain when hooked up. Don5 think many people would boondocks and do laundry using water and gray tank space. Only with full hookups.
JD, we went to look at the Beacon in Fort Worth. They only had 1 floor plan ( I was told they had 2). We were expecting a really nice experience in looking at it and we were really disappointed. We also looked at the Redwood 4001RK and it was much nicer than the Beacon. The Redwood master bathroom was huge. Maybe this ExploreUSA dealer didn't have a 42RDB to compare like your floor model but still walked away disappointed . Also, are planning on putting the Reese Goosebox on this Beacon you have?
For me I like Dim light or availability to pick and choose one light to be on, that's where selectable switches are better personally not a fan of touch pad switches unless there's also a backup switch to control it. . I also dislike the blandness of the kitchen, it seems cold imo.No contrast imo. As far as the sofa concerned a nice nook or something to take advantage of the windows.
No, that is definitely not a bidet. A bidet is used in place of or in addition to toilet paper. Fifth wheel is nice but to fancy for our camping style.
As for the washer/dryer. I like to have it as an option. Butttt, I would rather drive to a laundromat and spend no more than 2 hours doing laundry, then all day, or doing a little at a time, in the RV due to the size of the drums. They are great when you are not in an area offering a laundromat though.
Nice RV BUT I seriously dislike the way the fridge/freezer sticks out, looks like it doesn't fit, or someone broke the first one and the replacement fitted the space....
Lightning is a huge issue in this 5th wheel.. seriously its 2020 not 1980... you spend 6 figures on a 5th wheel, one expects a little more than a on or off ability for control.. you mentioned it twice in this video so I gather it is a concern for you as well...
That's not a clear question. Home prices vary from zip code to zip code, city to city, county to county, and state to state based on other home values, size (both building and land), features, age, and hundreds of variables. $144k can buy you a lot in some areas and hardly anything in others.
Sorry but the $144k is mrsp. Price is probably closer to $100k. I’m sure you can buy a double wide trailer in a mobile park for that,or maybe a house in the middle of nowhere on a dirt road for that price. Nothing against that, but I think if your looking at buying an RV in the $100k range, that’s not where you live.
Several reasons. 1st, it doesn't tend to imprint as bad over time (show the gap it's intended to cover). 2nd, It does not show scratches and scuffs like vinyl. 3rd, it doesn't crease like vinyl over time. Many manufacturers who tried or used vinyl in the past have moved away from it due to those reasons.
because I'm doing a long term evaluation of Vanleigh. I have reviewed LUXE and actually been to their factory which I've shown in several videos. I would say that LUXE makes a great product and some models have better storage and some don't. Regardless, a LUXE is about $50k+ more in terms of sales price than a Vanleigh. So you pay for that.
As nice as this rig is it lacks the user feel. The dislikes seem to center on lighting and courtesy lights. This shows me that the designers never went "camping" before.
Too F....ing Big! Why do you need to take your whole house with you to go camping? It has been proven, that laundromats are cheaper than owning a Washer and Dryer!
JD it finally looks lived in. Still like this one but need mega millions to buy it..lol
I don't really understand why someone would want those wood panels over the fridge. The stainless steel looks way better anyways.
Finger prints.
Also makes the area look bigger as it blends in with the rest... Having big shiny stainless steel doors would make it look small
Trainy agreed and you still have to clean the front of the fridge from time to time.
Finger prints, dude. Do you have kids? Stainless is horrible for fingerprints.
I think putting the porch light that’s above the entry door outside above the connections and wet bay is a fantastic idea. Van, Leigh, and Chase will probably have already heard from you on that, but I’ll be sure to tell our rep and any of the others if I talk to them in the near future.
Love your reviews you don’t pull your punches, if it’s good you tell us, if it’s bad you tell us! Can’t ask for much more than that.
I cannot wait to buy a Beacon! Thanks for the honest reviews! I am living vicariously through you 😆
You should buy this one. You know everything will be working and get it at a discount slightly used.
We aren't quite ready to buy yet, but it's funny you said that because I was thinking the exact same thing while watching the video!! Lol I wish we were ready right now.
Me Too 😀

We just purchased a 41FLB and if you press and hold the light switch you are able to dim all the lights or you can dim them from the master panel.
We thought the exact same thing about the living room. I agree the second sofa should be a desk for a computer. A tall cabinet is a great idea as well. I personally like the kitchen in the front of the unit!
Have you tried to press and hold the light switches to either dim or brighten the lights? In our Landmark our multiplex lighting works that way.
Our 2015 Grand design reflection has little blue lights under the slide out to see in the wet bay area. I agree with you about the sewer valve.
Another great review JD. I agree about the dining table chairs.
Flagstaff has a nice bright led above they’re outside connections. One of the only brands I’ve seen do it.
Would suggest cup holders for the couches. I feel this is a highly looked over aspect that would have a very good positive impact on the overall relaxation experience for people
Being a Ham. A desk would be wonderful. And the ability to slide some coax to the desk.

I love it but I won't be able to use it. Because I have horses so I need a la horse trailer lol
Nice unit. We own a solitude 310 gk, and we have the same issue with dimmer lighting. We do have led light on the service side. Thanks.
I’ve never understood why desks are not an option. I get that the owner could remove a sofa and install a desk but when the interior is that gorgeous I’d love my desk to match.

In that dining area if I selected this RV from the factory I would ask for a fixed bench sofa with padded back on both sides of the table.

They tend to work really well but as these “deposits” build up over 6-8 months they can develop issues. Some manufacturers have tried and removed them from there builds at least for a time (Jayco).
Keystone Fuzion line has light over connection bay. Seen others as well.

What would cause me to save my money for this is a rear kitchen setup like a GD 390RK.
That refrigerator sticking out is a major design flaw. What a huge mistake! Wonder if someone got fired for that.
Okay, that cabinet style fridge is absolutely asinine! That gap takes up so much space, making the fridge stick out a really far amount. Honestly it looks so bad with those shiny mirror metal trim pieces 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

It's really a gorgeous coach but I'd be too afraid to break something in it
Sold. This the one

To each his own, but I agree with you. It looks cold and sterile.....like a medical lab. I prefer the warm, rich color of wood and fabric
I know its nit-picky but, it's a WATER HEATER not a hot water heater...
My $60k Open Range 376FBH 5th wheel has a nice bright docking side light, and I saved $80k.
Honestly, it's pretty, but I don't see anything more than trim and doodads better than mine.
Have you had the chance to use the generator on this unit? I know it’s your first time out. Thanks for the update. 👍👍

What will happen if you are doing your laundry but your gray tank is full? Will the washer stop draining?
You use the gray line drain when hooked up. Don5 think many people would boondocks and do laundry using water and gray tank space. Only with full hookups.
The washer does not know if the gray tank is empty or full. If you fill up the gray tank it will back up and likely begin to fill the shower.
We keep the gray tank open while the washing machine is in use - just to be on the safe side.
JD, we went to look at the Beacon in Fort Worth. They only had 1 floor plan ( I was told they had 2). We were expecting a really nice experience in looking at it and we were really disappointed. I'm not sure if I'll be able to install a goose box on this unit. I've asked them, and they're evaluating the request and should let me know..

Sliding dimmer switches will do the trick
We have a toilet spray on our 2009 JayFlight. But we had on on our old Terry Taurus. Don’t they come with every trailer toilet?
No, that is definitely not a bidet. A bidet is used in place of or in addition to toilet paper. Fifth wheel is nice but to fancy for our camping style.
Robin McCune how can something be to fancy? If your in a RV it’s not camping.
If it’s nicer than my home, it’s too nice for camping! Lol
As for the washer/dryer. I like to have it as an option. Butttt, I would rather drive to a laundromat and spend no more than 2 hours doing laundry, then all day, or doing a little at a time, in the RV due to the size of the drums. They are great when you are not in an area offering a laundromat though.
Mike Dean sometimes a pain to find a laundromat in a safe area
You're not sitting inside doing laundry for hours. You're in and out. It's great having a washer and dryer in our fifth wheel!
Nice RV BUT I seriously dislike the way the fridge/freezer sticks out, looks like it doesn't fit, or someone broke the first one and the replacement fitted the space....
Fortunately the panels are optional. You save money not getting them.
Kitchen has sooo much grey :( Id like more contrasting colors or cupboards be a different color from the wall?
Did I hear you correctly? Krispy Kreme? No Shipley's nearby?
Did you say you can’t lock the restroom from the inside? That’s crazy.
Correct. No lock
You can't lock the bathroom door in any fifth wheel that I've found.
Are the recliners and sofa top grain leather or the glue on leather crap?
How about bench window seat workspace in living
What is the small 6 inch by 6 inch door for that is beside your dryer vent?
no dimmer no deal... i'm not kidding
Curious to know how was it sleeping on the mattress.
Very comfortable
Is that a rip on the arm of the sofa?
No, it's a bundle of plastic tag holders that all residential furniture seams to have sticking out.
Is 144k MSRP or sale price?
MSRP. Sale price would be much lower.
MSRP
I really don’t like the sterile cold color pallet. Reminds me of a hospital.
Let’s be honest somethings you have to upgrade yourself. A company can’t mass produce every single thing
You really don't like the lighting options which I can understand but some plug in nightlights solve all of the problems.
Lightning is a huge issue in this 5th wheel.. seriously its 2020 not 1980... you spend 6 figures on a 5th wheel, one expects a little more than a on or off ability for control.. you mentioned it twice in this video so I gather it is a concern for you as well...
Hey guys if you are reading this i wanna know something.
If you have 144K in USA you can buy a house? what are some of the prices of houses?
That's not a clear question. Home prices vary from zip code to zip code, city to city, county to county, and state to state based on other home values, size (both building and land), features, age, and hundreds of variables. $144k can buy you a lot in some areas and hardly anything in others.
Sorry but the $144k is mrsp. Price is probably closer to $100k. I’m sure you can buy a double wide trailer in a mobile park for that,or maybe a house in the middle of nowhere on a dirt road for that price. Nothing against that, but I think if your looking at buying an RV in the $100k range, that’s not where you live.
idk but maybe wd40 the bathroom lock to make it run smoothly?
It's just the nature of the mechanism
It’s great. Interior is just a bit too white for me
I hate, loathe, despise carpet.
Why do they have carpet in the dinette slide?
Several reasons. 1st, it doesn't tend to imprint as bad over time (show the gap it's intended to cover). 2nd, It does not show scratches and scuffs like vinyl. 3rd, it doesn't crease like vinyl over time. Many manufacturers who tried or used vinyl in the past have moved away from it due to those reasons.
why do you not look at the lux elites they are better they have more cabinet space they have more lighting and different functions
because I'm doing a long term evaluation of Vanleigh. I have reviewed LUXE and actually been to their factory which I've shown in several videos. I would say that LUXE makes a great product and some models have better storage and some don't. Regardless, a LUXE is about $50k+ more in terms of sales price than a Vanleigh. So you pay for that.
Big Truck Big RV Big Facts
Better? Not according to the few Luxe owners I have run into, who felt like they were sold a "Bill of Goods".
As nice as this rig is it lacks the user feel. The dislikes seem to center on lighting and courtesy lights. This shows me that the designers never went "camping" before.
The interior lacks worth. It overall interior looks like plastic finish. Try integrating cloth finishes.
144K?
Too many steps. Steps to get in, steps to get to the living room, steps to get to the bedroom. Not a floor plan for older rv 'ers
:-)))) :-))))
I don't care for any of the styling in this 5th wheel...
Why do u call them a rv it’s a camper
Animals such as dogs can ruin LEATHER FURNITURE with claw marks
ANIMAL SAFE FURNITURE, LEATHER IS NOT ANIMAL SAFE 😞
Too much talk about lighting, Geez!!!
And folding chairs suck.they look cheap
Too F....ing Big! Why do you need to take your whole house with you to go camping? It has been proven, that laundromats are cheaper than owning a Washer and Dryer!
