A lot of ppl aren't encouraged to read but they do it anyway as they become an adult, so on some level, it seems she wasn't interested in being more educated until it became embarrassing. Also, didn't she have to audition for the show? Didn't they know she didn't have a political mind when they hired her? Were they setting her up to be the dummy?

I’ve never actually watched an entire show ( only clips) because: 1) they all talk over each other and it gives me a headache, 2) (ironically) they’re narcissistic and intolerant of anyone else’s views, 3) they name-call and belittle those that don’t agree with them, 4) I couldn’t stand that they were permitted to make hateful remarks and get away with it. I have respect for Sherri because she listened to the advice she was given from Barbara, she educated herself, she is willing to have civil discussions and hear other perspectives, she learned to question authority and formed her own opinions. You go girl!

"If you don't speak up, I'm gonna eat you up" - wow that is powerful. And necessary, especially for black women. Because society speaks over us and doesn't value our voice. But we have one and we need to use it. I had to literally learn speak over people to get them to hear me and when that didn't happen, use my stature, lean in or stand up to get them to shut up and listen or at least pretend to hear me.

I can relate to the "no questions asked" authority system Sherri speaks of. I came to really resent it and tried my best not to convey that system to my two children. They were allowed to ask questions and why's and so forth as long as they were respectful. I was honest when I didn't know the answers to their questions and worked together with them to find those answers.

That’s why they hired her. They, especially Barbara Walters, had a type of Black woman who they wanted for The View.
Starr Jones... Whoopi Goldberg, Sherri fit this type. Conventionally pretty Black women need not apply since the show stayed far away from being upstaged by a Black woman who looked anything other than the women they chose. Several guest Black cohosts checked all the boxes ... Ther y were intelligent, knowledgeable, well rounded, likable and beautiful ... but they didn’t hire them. Barbara made very “interesting” choices.

I totally understand, Sherri. I was a JW FOR OVER 50 years and recently woke up a few years ago. The leadership of Jehovah's Witnesses keeps its members ignorant and uneducated for the purpose of keeping their members from learning and growing. The more the Watchtower can keep its members ignorant and poor, the more control they have over its members. Watchtower has truly twisted, brainwashed, and endoctrinated the minds of Jehovah's Witnesses. I'm so glad Sherri got out of the Jehovah's Witness DOOMSDAY CULT. It would be so great if Sherri could be a huge activist against Jehovah's Witness CULT. Watchtower is going to be PROTESTED on October 31st 2023. At the WHITE HOUSE in Washington D.C. JOIN THE PROTEST.

I also went to an underperforming school but I loved to read and I had to advocate for my immigrant mother. But I also get where Sherri was coming from, I worked for an employer with a similar experience and experienced racial micro aggressions. Producers can be bullies, especially in that show. The only justice is that Whoopi took the show from Barbara and left Barbara in the dust. Sherri now has her own show

So interesting that the religious background enforced passivity & submission to authority & this influenced her in her interactions at work. Important thing to consider.

As soon as she said Jehovah Witness, I was just like ok that makes sense because they are a denomination that can be very secluded and almost cult-like in their doctrine.

I'm very impressed by her growth. I did used to think of her as an airhead. I could partly relate though because I was also raised in a very religious environment.

This explains a lot. I wish I had known the when the said the world was flat. I knew she was serious and did not show her grace. I am sorry for that because she was an embarrassment after having a BW like Star Jones, who was an attorney and SUPER SMART and intelligent on the show. I grew to like her later though.

I’m trying to figure out how she got on The View then. Knowing their cast before then, I would’ve thought there was a vetting process.

"We were taught not to ask questions". I have been pointing this BS out for years with regards to black people and chuches (I am black). I went to church as a teen because my mother insisted but that part about church always bothered me, not asking questions.
Not only because I have had legit questions that I have felt were never answered, so over the years I have kind of drifted towards agnostic. They just wanted to spew a lot of outlandish stuff that made zero sense and when you ask questions, all you get are platitudes.
But, insisting that people believe blindly WHATEVER you spew and not allowing them to ask questions or making them feel a way for asking, softens them up to being taken advantage of. Take note of how many spiritual "spiritual leaders" have either abused people sexually or financially. I just saw a clip recently of a pastor stating that his congregation should make sure that they put aside money for the collection plate even BEFORE they purchase food. He literally expressed that he did not care if the congregation went hungry just as long as they come with the money, DISGUSTING.

Truth be told anyone who goes to church should know why they believe what they believe even scripture tells us to do so (I'm speaking from the Christian perspective). I don't know about other beliefs. People say they're saved I always respond "saved from what?"
