    When the professor asked Mr. Nguyen about "Is the democracy good for Vietnamese". For me comparable the question is that "The society is define the god". When the professor mention about Phan Chu Chin and Phan Boi Chau. For me rising questions that what material print that professor doing research.

    Im a Viet Kieu living here in Vietnam. The middle class is noticably absent from the lack of middle/high income jobs. Systemic corruption is passively accepted as normal part of society. People know theres something wrong but they just accept it. Its kinda weird. They have never experienced Western style democracy in this generation, though they see it in neighboring countries like Singapore, South Korea, and Taiwan. But its this passive attitude thats really worrying.

    • @nguyentrunghieu3597
      @nguyentrunghieu3597 29 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      That horseshit. Vietnam's middle class is growing rapidly, fueled by economic progress and urbanization. Middle/high-income jobs are increasing in sectors like tech and manufacturing, especially in cities like Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. Corruption exists, but the government has been tackling it through major anti-corruption campaigns. The “passive attitude” you mention might be pragmatism-many prioritize stability and gradual reform over risky changes. Vietnam's progress may not mirror Western democracies, but the improvements in living standards and opportunities are undeniable.

      @@nguyentrunghieu3597why with such harsh language? You seem to be so angry, take some ju hua tea to calm yourself down 😎. What middle class? What foreign investment in vn? It’s an idea floating around with hope one day it could materialize. And how do you root out corruption when it is at the highest level in government. Vietnam is suffering from a similar fate like its big neighbor, Chila when dealing with corrupted officials. Xi jing ping is struggling to contain the situation 😢.

    As a viet, i think the most fitting way for us people right now is Benevolent dictatorship, those like that of Singapore in the beginning. The general awareness of the citizens have been severely demolished by the rule of the party dictatorship. So on a large scale, people aren't used to practicing democracy, having an idea or joining the state apparatus. Apparently they aren't used to basic human rights.
    So i think the country needs a dedicated individual, or group that can stand up (preferably through nonviolence) and show people the way, what are being taken from them and their own rights. Just then could we confidently move to being a democratic state

    Phan Chu Chinh is a tragedy, he was a leader that Vietnam needed, but sadly at a different time. His called for popular rights, if succeeded, would have put Vietnam on a great path for advancement. Sadly Vietnamese were too divided and frankly were too ignorant to embrace his idea.

    Thank you professor Kevin and Kenneth. The Vietnamese, who are we… we been around for long time but in reality we are a young nation. Our history is part of Chinese history since the Qin Dynasty and up to the Ming Dynasty’s. Then we have our independent from China in the late 900s and have monarchy until the French came and then modern Vietnam in 1975 once the country is at peace and as one.
    I love this podcast with the wisdom of the professor Kevin and the student Kenneth, who is the curiosity and hunger to learn and yearning to do something for us Vietnamese both in the world and at home in Vietnam, thank you Kenneth. Our root. I am 51 and came to the USA when I was 7 and I am too curious and want to know about us.
    The older generation from both sides the North and the South have their bias based on their experiences and persuasions of the media news and governments communications propaganda.
    The professor and Kenneth brought freedom of speech and intellectuals and the curiosity to find a more balance of the Truth of the Vietnamese and who we are moving forward to be a great people of Còn Ròng Cháu Tiền.
    We are blessed to live in a Free society to discuss and finding the truth and balance and fairness.

    Viet here. No question, democracy would be good for Vietnam as it would promote freedom of expressions and ideas without being scared to be locked up by the dictatorial government.

      Nah! What Vietnam needs is a leader who can prioritize efficiency, stability, and economic development, much like Lee Kuan Yew did for Singapore. The American liberal democratic ideals would never work out for Vietnam, and guess what, the Philippines has adopted that so-called democracy for decades and still struggling with corruptions and political dynasties. The freedom to express your thoughts is very far from badmouthing someone and escaping from the consequences.

    Yes our latest kings had failed us but if we had more people like Phan Chu Trinh as leaders for the mass to follow. We could have changed our history sooner too. It tuned out that Ho Chi Minh became the victor after he, following the ruthless communist way, started to kill off all other thought leaders not following communism. Connecting to present day, if there are enough wise young leaders taking over in different areas of government in Vietnam, we too can change for the better.

    In the pure definition of democracy that is the people can choose the rulers by major votes who can change the laws of the country as they wish, then VietNam has abundant of democracy since every election events they have 99.9% of participation from the people. What VietNam needs right now is the limitation of Government power, just like the constitutional republic system of the US.

      @@kiepnguoi5058 Vietnam has "99.9% of voting participation". You might be right but it doesn't mean democracy because regular people cannot announce candidacy for elections. All the elections are fixed with comrade candidates who are affiliated with the communist party and people are told to go to vote for selected candidates by the commies or face consequences if they don't go to vote.
