In the past, an alternative to this has been using legal currency coins in machines that transform them into souvenir coins with no currency value. This has the effect of destroying some small amount of currency which can be problematic. Issuing zero value currency in local patterns as souvenirs not only dodges this problem, it adds a source of profit to slightly offset currency production costs in general.
It's not only problematic, but also in most countries is ilegal, as it is ilegal to deface money
In Australia, it's quite common for the souvenir coin pressing machines to use US pennies instead of blank copper discs. Put in your $2s, and watch the machine deface foreign currencies
There are souvenir money with real value. Say, the same £1 but looking fancy. You don’t need to invent a wheel to solve this problem.
Here in Estonia it's like this. You insert 2€ coin and 5 cents to the machine. 2€ is a fee and the 5 cents will be pressed into souvenir coin by rotating the handle mechanically changing the shape and size of the 5 cents.
We have quite a lot of the coin pressing machines in the UK

This reminds me of a thing we have in the USA and Canada called "squished pennies". Its a legal defacing of federal money for the purpose of printing a landmark or touristic attraction onto a penny by replacing its 1¢ value with artwork. You insert your penny at a tourist destination and it crushes the copper into a blank canvas that can have a design printed on it. This seems very similar but ours aren't government issued.
We have the exact same thing in Europe as well.

Fun fact: Euro coins, unlike notes, do actually have different designs for different countries. That's something I found out recently and decided to comment after 1 minute into the video lmfao
it made me obsessed with coins as a kid! Each country has a couple of different designs, and can be found very far from the country they originated from. I collected a lot of them, but as we live in the Netherlands, 90% of the coins were just Dutch, German, Belgian or French. France has some of the pretter ones i think. I used to hate the belgian one with the king on it bc it was really common and it's just a lame design to have an old man on there when you could litterally have anything else (though our own coins also have the current queen or kings face on them).
it's really cool to come across like an cyprus or lithuania coin though. I don't think i've ever seen/noticed one!

Investing in stocks and crypto is a good idea, a good trading system would put you through many days of success.
It is possible to produce superior performance provided you do something different from the majority. However most of us tend to pay more attention to the shiniest position in the market to the cost of proper diversification.

😂
On the Euro coins, one side is the "common side" which is on every coin, and the other side is the "national side" which each country's central bank can put whatever they want on the coins they mint. The German coins have the Federal Eagle, the Irish coins have the Celtic Harp, the Spanish coins have the King of Spain. You can spend them in any country regardless of what country they're from. It would've been nice if they'd done the same with the notes, one side common, and the other side national, rather than having them universal.
Yes ! As kids my brother and I would look at which countries our coins were from, and establish who had the coolest coins depending on how far or exotic the countries were (for French kids like us, 1€ from Cyprus was infinitely more valuable than 1€ from France). I still like to look at my coins today and imagine how they could've come to me all the way from Slovakia or Finland.

For promoting tourism.
The real notes have fictional graphics. The Zero Euro notes for tourism can have real culture graphics.
This entire video can be summarized in 25 seconds:
0:40 - 1:05
-normal banknotes are boring
--unfortunately needs to be boring to not be biased
-why not print many landmarks?
--easy to counterfeit
-so?
--zero euro with many landmarks
-why?
--tourism
For the Numismatics. There are special stamps tor the Philatelists as well.
And any issue with counterfeiting is blocked by them being worth 0.
It’s pretty obvious if you paid attention in the beginning. They can’t put real landmarks on Euros because whatever countries landmarks make it onto the higher denominations might been seen to be better than the landmarks printed on the low denominations. They fix this by putting real landmarks on worthless notes, so there’s no favoritism or perceived ranking, and there’s no additional risk of counterfeiting.
This channel is a hidden gem in TH-cam

I love stuff like this!
Keep up the good work, Chris!
Just got back from France and while I was there I picked up a note not shown in this video, one with a Concorde, from the Musee de l’air et de l’espace to go with my other Concorde stuff. Was buzzing when I saw the machine and had to get one!!!
This is just Chris flexing his 0 euros.
4:12 the Big Ben was taken of because the UK had decided to step out of the European union
At about 7:20 the guy in the 50 zloty note winks, nice!
When the "wow! This is worthless!" Meme became real life
The -1 dollar bill
It isn't a meme bozo
Mom: You aren't useless
Me: *Zero Euro Bank Note*
This is actually real. The zero euros are the most valuable euro bank note, as they can be used to add zeros to any other euro.
€50 + €0 = €500
The bridges on the back are fictional as well
Spijkenisse: no they aren't

Ha!! I see what they did there...
th-cam.com/video/S9E1wsxOSzM/w-d-xo.html a video about them
Europeans are so rich that are starting to make jokes about the real value of money
If only
This did not age well (euro has lost 20% of its value in a year)
the answer is found at 0:21 seconds into the video: the 0 Euro bill is a SOUVENIR note. it holds legal tender for a kick in the ass at any participating store and comes with an exclusive local sling of slurs, insults and curses. available now in every euro-zone bank!
Not sure what annoys me the most about the "Norwegian" 0 Banknote from Svalbard: The fact that Norway doesn't use the Euro to begin with, or the fact that Norway has never even been in the European Union
Its fine only us colony norwegians
@@thendaria Aw, such modesty. Your heart belongs in the EU.
These remind me of the souvenir coins I collected in Paris in 2002. The euro was just being adopted and they had machines to exchange a 2 euro coin for a coin embossed with imagery of the site (like the colosseum and napoleon’s tomb) They were just commemorative as I recall without a value pressed on to them but they were very cool goodies to take back.
We have something similar but not really in the states, where they take a penny and stretch it out into an oval. And now that I think about it, i have no idea why this is a thing…
Is it just me or was Half-Asleep Chris trying to avoid Germany?
He's done a good job at avoiding national socialists
You may as well say he is actively avoiding Denmark
@@Pietroszz As a Dane, I was waiting for this comment
Yeah he also avoided Italy
@@Pietroszz not all Germans are nazis... In fact most of them are not and the current gouvernement of Germany is not. It was a total of 12 years in an centuries old history that Germany was ruled by a national socialist partie... And this 12 years ended 75 years ago. I guess you weren't even planed 75 years ago s so shut the hell up and stop talking about nazis as if they are still a thing nowadays.
Finally a banknote that shows the REAL value of your money.
