Best way to grind up to where you'll be strong enough to face Gades. There is a monster you'll run into that's shaped like a cube with sphere core. These monsters love to run away in battle. If you can successfully kill them, they give out a large amount of exp.
@@warrenorbe7329 yes indeed. Spark magic does pretty well against them. So long as they don't all run off, leaving your party staring at an empty field off in the distance.
What's super helpful in this fight is to use the Speedy RIng's IP 'Fake" to raise Tia and Selan's agility higher than Gades so you get a couple of healing options at the start of the round instead of Gades attacking first and having no control. Makes it much easier to plan each round after that.
Lvl 43 I didn't have to the patience to level to 43. I took him on at lvl 29. Battle took forever, and lots and lots of healing from all 3 while guy focused attacking. With maxim getting a hit in now and then, but I got him down.
I remember posting to a walkthrough on a website long ago, maybe 25 years ago, that the first encounter with Gades could be beaten because it said he was unbeatable. He has a much HP as the third encounter, not the reduced HP of the second encounter, so yeah, it’s tough even in Retry mode. But the Gades’ blade is sweet and can be taken in and out of the Ancient Dungeon.
Just managed to take him down with my party all in mid 20's (Selan 22). Biggest hurdle was the first couple rounds as still needed him to target Guy or Maxim or get a lucky destructo wave damage roll but after cutting his attack a few times and buffing the party defense I could pretty much survive and heal every round no problem.
IMHO foomy sucks I'd rather use FLASH for the entire game BUT that's impossible you can only get Flash well after you beat Gades here OR he kills everyone in under 30 Seconds. I didn't own a SINGLE Statue items the casino to buy them is NOT EVER worth it.
In case anyone else ever sees this and wants to replicate, young me had a cheese way to solo Gades with Guy back in the day, without overleveling. Equip the IQ ring to Guy, which allows him to cast Stronger on himself from IP. This heals him fully. With the best defensive gear, he can take 3 hits from Gades before dying, so he can attack twice. Hit Gades with the Gladius' Light element IP attack to hit his elemental weakness. It takes like an hour at least, but Gades *cannot* win if you keep healing, and saves you time compared to overlevelling the entire party like this.
@@ChronoSquare I might be misremembering, it's been many years. But any weapon with a strong rage attack will do. As Gades can only attack Guy with everyone else down, and stronger costs very little rage, you can use it every other turn probably.
Omg yes, I had the same strategy like 23 years ago. I would use the IQ Ring, Hi Potions and alternate the Fire Dagger IP and the Stronger spell. There was also some armor and gear that would allow you to reduce Gades' attack power, defense and speed, so you could sometimes get more hits in and survive up to 3 hits without using healing. The supporting cast would cast as many buffs/debuffs as they could before I would just let them die and let Guy take over. I think the Fire Dagger was the strongest item up to this point (you can get it in the spider cave right before this tower) so it's probably that one.

Except EVEN UNDER 4x exp the exp in the TOWER itself on the way to Gades SUCK and the cube core enemies still won't give out enough exp to hit lv 40+ WITHOUT the 4x Exp boost but even with 4x Exp I stopped lving at lv 30 and still didn't survive his OPENING Destructo Wave AT all.

Gades' sword is one of the strongest swords in the game and it's a special reward for defeating Gades the first time around.

True, but they have great evasion and they are easy to run away, so just attack them regularly and hoping that it is critical damage or do sparks

But... you don't get a Gladius sword before this battle. Maybe you're thinking of the second Gades fight?

Grinded so much of red core cube enemies for this, lol.
This is the hardest boss you will encounter. but after you defeat him, everything became less difficult until the end.

It can be done but you are supposed to lose
Why you get 200k exp and gold? I beat gades and only give me 50k 😞
This is in Retry mode, which quadruples the exp and money drops from enemies.
