What happened? Is that I understood that the planet that appears existed before Mercury but it got too close to the sun and died, so the sun created Mercury and Mercury gives his all to look like that planet. Am I wrong?
Hephaestus (modernly known as Vulcan) was the planet that orbited the closest to the Sun and was also the fastest (orbital period was about 19d). Disregarding Hephaestus' destruction, Hermes (Mercury) already existed but since Hephaestus' destruction, the Sun wanted to try and focus a lot of his time with the next closest planet to make sure that he would never get destroyed or harmed (the next closest planet being Hermes). Hermes has always known he was some sort of host channeling the image of Hephaestus and he doesn't want to just be the Sun's best friend and also wants to be an individual planet that won't be reprimanded for leaving his orbit. That has lead up to today! That's basically the gist of how Mercury feels :)
Mercury knows that the Sun is trying to make him the second Vulcan/Hephaestus in a way by always making jokes and interacting with him. Solar flares also continuously hit him, but Vulcan would usually avoid those unlike Mercury, who is forced to take the pain. With Venus, Mercury wants to feel appreciated for once and not get insulted for his size or anything because even though Vulcan was smaller, Aphrodite/Venus was still best friends with him. So Mercury doesn't want to be seen as Vulcan but also wants to be seen as him.
