Thanos is inevitable - as a comic book fan what the writers were probably meaning with that line or hinting around to is his love obsession for mistress death who if you think about it is inevitable as well. Maybe cuz of Disney they toned down those angles of his character or it could hint to his huge ego thinking of himself as on par with death which was a storyline from infinity gauntlet comic book. Never realized what the implications of that line could of also meant . Of course he saw himself win and realized theses heroes have time traveled to stop him but great writing if you think about the real Thanos who was mad crazy not saving people bcuz of lack of resources.
