What makes the best crab bait? Well, you need something smelly, oily and with lots of meat on the bones. What better bait than a mink, right? Side affects may include dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and in some rare but serious cases liver problems and kidney failure. Call your doctor immediately if you experience any of these symptoms.
But seriously, Dungeness crabs love these baits, but I think I'll stick with chicken from now on...

The mink probably comes from a local trapper, who sells the hides separately to fur buyers. Great to see the rest of the animal get used!

Actually Tillamook bay is an extremely great place to go crabbing, but you need a boat I go there regularly. It’s great because the amount of food is insane because there are multiple rivers into it so there are crabs galore and you would have no problem limiting within a few hours! Garibaldi is definitely the move

Weve used mink a few times from that exact same bait shop and never had good luck with it. Can of oil based tuna with a corner popped and chicken over the top of it works best in crab traps from my experience.
Its almost 4$ when he knows where a mink is could’ve saved money and just killed it himself

Those mink aren't roadkill or from a factory. Trappers catch them for the fur, then skin them and freeze the bodies for crab bait. I was down on the Oregon coast crabbing just a couple weeks ago and a nice lady asked if we wanted some mink for bait said her uncle traps them locally and sells them to the bait shop. Next time you're down there you should definitely bring a rod and try to catch some surf perch.

Actually those minks come from trappers. They trap the minks and then sell the pelts, but after skinning them there is nothing useful to do with the body. Glad they put them to good use it would be a shame to waste the meat.

Here in Oregon mink are bad they can get on the bee hives and do a lot of damage to the ecosystem but everyone I know forgives them because they are so cute
