I marched snare under Tom in Atlanta (1980) with Spirit of Atlanta. He was at the same time hilarious and intimidating. He had a way of making you want to drum clean so you could watch his smile after the cut off. His "Float-isms" were so funny and made marching in the summer heat a little more bearable. His way of putting you at ease before a show when he would step onto the bus and tell us who the judging panel was with his pet names for all of the line up that night. Hilarious. Tom Float was one of a kind and he left his mark in so many ways. R.I.P. Tom Float. You made this world a better place.
