  • I grew up having Swiss steak for dinner. It brings back fond memories. Taking a tough cut of meat, making it tender and then immersing it in a with a nice hearty tomato and beef sauce was always good and fulfilling. Here is my version of this classic old school recipe. I hope you give it a try.

I grew up in the Midwest and my Mom made Swiss Steak frequently and it was always a tomato based sauce, actually like stewed tomatoes on top in a tomato based broth, too. And, with mashed potatoes, too. Delicious and memories! Thank you, Amy.

AMY and Chris, I adore you! ❤️
I have been watching LPBW since day 1. I, too, have twins the same age as Zach and Jeremy. I am so glad to have found your little kitchen cooking. By the way, I lived in Aloha, Oregon, when my twins were born. We were neighbors!

Chris talks about the cream soup his grandma used. I grew up in Northern Illinois. I use basically the same recipe but with 2 tweaks. When I tenderize the meat, I pound seasoned flour into it to help with the thickening. Also when I make the sauce, I add 1 can of either golden mushrooms or beefy mushroom soup. It makes a richer sauce withe the tomatoes and veggies. So good.

I love swiss steak, i think my mom bought minute steaks back in the 60's. i love them cooked in stewed tomatoes (canned) i think the pickling spices in the can make it special. also served over mashed potatoes. its like one of my fave comfort foods, up there with meat loaf and stew. my mom specializes in depression era dinners, thats what I grew up on. ❤
