MARKO POLO, currently sailing under the Croatian flag for the Jadrolinija company, was initially introduced as the PETER WESSEL in 1973. Constructed at Ateliers & Chantiers du Havre in Le Havre, this vessel began its journey with the A/S Larvik company, servicing the Larvik and Frederikshavn route. By 1984, the ship was renamed ZEELAND and served the Hoek van Holland to Harwich route under the Stoomvaart Maatschappij Zeeland. In 1986, she was acquired by Stena Line and renamed STENA NORDICA, covering the route from Moss to Frederikshavn and then to Göteborg.
However, 1988 marked a significant shift for the ship. Acquired by Jadrolinija, she was renamed MARKO POLO and began operations between various Mediterranean ports, including Ancona, Korfu, Patras, Dubrovnik, Split, and Venice. Throughout her service with Jadrolinija, the MARKO POLO underwent several changes in her operational routes. A notable incident in her history includes running aground in 2009 during a voyage from Rijeka to Bari. After a six-month repair period, she resumed service in May 2010. Currently, she connects Ancona to Split and occasionally serves the Stari Grad route during the summer.

Thank you for such a great video. I worked on this ship during the summer of 1984 when she was called Zeeland and sailed in between Hoek van Holland and Harwich. Still more or less the same with very well-kept interiors.

That's just what I thought when I first saw the vessel.
I could hardly believe that it was built in the 1970s.
All I can think is that it must have had a new paint job, then been upholstered to requirements.
