I have a question and maybe you are the one who can answer. Why Southern Style have the right hand in front and Northern style have the left hand in front?
It is common saying that “Southern pole, Northern spear”, so their characteristics and ways of exert power are different that leading them are used different hands in front. The old saying of Chinese martial arts artist that “Spear strikes in a straight line skillfully with the blinking speed”, therefore we mainly use right hand to dominate and left hand as a barrel (like a gun barrel) to cooperate with right hand. According to legend, the single-end staff (Southern pole) was come from the techniques of Northern spear, however it does not have the spear on top, the main techniques to exert power on the head of pole is depended on right hand. One the other hand, some southern pole routines are used left hand in front, for example Hung Gar Left hand 6.5 pole (左手六點半釣魚棍), Mad Demon left pole (瘋魔左棍）etc. Finally the same of them are used right hand to dominate because of most of us are right handed.

Yes, it can be applied in any southern poles😊
@@cwscma and are the terms the same? I mean "luk dim bun diu yu long gwan" can this term also be used in "ng long pa kwa gwan"?
@@luisantonio2034 Basically, the terms are the same, but also can use another words to instead. For example, “割Got”can be instead of “殺Saat”.
