Great info Scott ..going to br restoring my 42 GPW this summer, finishing up a 47 CJ right now .. gotta appreciate the engineering that went into these vehicles, my M16A2 halftrack has brass waterpipes! Brass doesn't rust, we really knew how to build them back in the day!!
I Would have put a plain flat washer both sides, it would stop the spring washer from digging in and scoring the paint, which would allow rust to invade, other than that i totally agree with what you have done.
To avoid the engine goes to front if the support of engine and transmission fail. It's a radiator life saver. I don't see other use. By the way, sorry if you are not agree.
I was told many years ago, that, due to the G.I.'s propensity to jump these vehicles, getting airborne and landing heavily nose first, engine assemblies did tear loose and mangle radiators, so the stay cable was introduced to solve that 'problem'. Should have just introduced penalties for such offences!.
Hi Scott I found this stay cable video very interesting. I have a question as you say it stops the engine moving forward so the gear box mount must play a part stoping it moving forward to . Which way round does it go, as there is metal turned down and up on one side does that go too the front off the jeep or too the back ?
They really thought lockwashers did something back then, they're everywhere! (You can really reduce your parts count by deleting them, but then it's not authentic at that point) This thing is beautiful. Is this jeep for sale or is it already for a customer?

The stay is to counteract the lateral effects of the offset front drive shaft.
I have been told that as well. I would agree. Great comment John👍
Your information is priceless ! Thank you.
The stay cable looks like a solution to a problem. Something that was added to resolve a problem, of engine... sliding forward.
Great Job, I just installed one myself, Keep them videos coming !

Looks good Scott...no stamped lock nut to go on last?
Ralph H. I have one coming 😉

Roberto Badilla I do agree. 👍

It's not necessary the right stay cable because the front axle maintain motor and transmission on place in case of support failure.
