I am continously impressed by Phil Spencer. He speaks plainly and passionately about games and you can tell that he really cares about what he's doing with Microsoft. You cannot fake his passion for games and gaming. While I may not always agree with what he's doing I can say with a fair amount of certainty that the Xbox brand is in good hands.
Between Phil Spencer and Shuhei Yoshida, it's awesome to have to heads that speak the open truth and aren't scared of having an honest conversation. Men and women like these two are the reason games are in such a great place right now. There were so many great tidbits in here. Great job unlocked crew!

First they bought moon studios and got ori and the blind forest and last year inside which came from the program ID@Xbox went for game of the year. IGN is the biggest gaming site and Unlocked is a relatively large and visible podcast. But, he's visited hole in the wall much smaller podcasts like Inner Circle too, and mid tier stuff like Gamertag Radio. Even on Twitter, he answers more fan questions than almost any highly visible public figure I've seen (over two years he's answered like five of my questions).
Phil is such an awesome guy! He is a real gamer and not bias just to Xbox! He praises other exclusives on other platforms and the console itself! He really loves his job and being honest and open about everything! What a great BOSS! 😊

Yeah, like a lot of people I passed on Xbox this gen, but Mr. Spencer is a class act. It never feels like he's cynically marketing his brand, he's very real, and is always respectful to his competition. You get the sense that he's a gamer first. He's a credit to Microsoft, and to the gaming community in general, and I wish him luck with Scorpio.

If I had the cash to have both I totally would love to own a xbox one. I am a huge admirer of Phil Spencer though. I like that he is against the whole "console wars" culture and super vocal about it, and his ability to kinda turn things around for the xbone after fans were told that if they don't have access to a constant internet connection they should "stick with the 360". lol. Credit where credit is due, Spencer is a necessity for the industry as a whole.
I love how honest Phil is about minor things. I'm a "Nintendo guy", but if the IGN crew asked Reggie "Why did Nintendo move their E3 presentation to Sunday", he would NEVER admit it was because of other companies presentations (EA, Ubisoft). We would get the usual crappy PR answer where Nintendo pretends they're not worried about the other guys.
Roberto Bechtlufft Fundamental difference in ideology. Nintendo and Sony are Japanese companies. Japan business is notoriously close to the vest about everything. Not personable at all. Cold and calculated (much more analogous to most other businesses and industries). Microsoft has always been pretty transparent from the beginning, and it's become even more so with Phil. Even on stuff he's not even allowed to talk about he unintentionally says a lot more than he probably should. They both work, just different ideologies. That was a great interview. PS fan here, that left Xbox after owning the OG and the 360 because of the kinect and media center debacle. I'm glad to see Phil Spencer taking care of the brand so well. Still hope they had more exclusives, for competition's sake.
Nah, his VR answer has actually been pretty consistent. He's always said that he believes in VR on the platform, but it's not really ready yet and still needs more work as people understand how to make good VR games. Ryan put him in a tough PR spot a few times, so of course he's going to pause to give a good answer. I think he's a reflective fellow, and I appreciate that he is as open as he is about his thought process and his mistakes - even when he can't completely put it out there. That's really important

I skipped out on xbox this gen because of how they rolled out the xbone. But with Phil there it seems like they are doing much better things. I appreciate his honesty and openness. The first party studio shutdowns are worrisome though.
He's doing a great job. Last E3 there was nothing to be excited about because of all the leaks when it came to the big 3.Phil is doing a great job making sure that doesn't happen with them this time around giving gamers a reason to be excited for E3 this year.

Matt B I like these build a PC comments. Theres no PC you can build that will do what Scorpio can on a budget. Lets say its running games at native 4K/30 or 60fps in some games. you're looking at a pricey rig equivalent. optimization will probably be better on Scorpio too. Just looking at what PS4 Pro was able to do with HZD...I cant wait to see what Scorpio is doing. Phil even said he felt confident that it will be better than whats in the market now..amd he already saw HZD.
He is indeed a representation of everything Xbox really is. Huge progress since Xbox One launched, a hard to fix start he actually managed to fix, constant new features being added over and over, great ideas for Xbox Live services. Even though the console itself maybe a little weaker than PS4 and the exclusives are not really Xbox's strongest thing, I believe that after Scropio's release, exclusive games will be the only thing to come eventually, while, let's be honest, Sony has nothing more than good exclusives. The quality of Sony's services (PSN, PS+) are nowhere near the services currently offered by Microsoft. Microsoft only lacks great and innovative exclusive games while Sony has nothing but this. Even their new controller looks like Xbox's one haha :D
MrVader75 I also think this is a strategic move for the casual gamer, the undecided gamer, and the consumers who want to buy a new system as a gift this holiday season that doesn't know anything about games. All 3 examples of consumers will come to a video game store and will have to decide between a Nintendo Switch, a PS4/Pro or an Xbox 1S/Scorpio. Nintendo Switch you can take around with you. Sony PS4/Pro has more exclusives. But on all these video game demo screens will be the scorpio versions of....let's say FIFA 18, NBA2K18, the Next CALL OF DUTY, DESTINY 2, the next BATTLEFIELD, READ DEAD REDEMPTION, STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT 2. The consumer is going to ask what game is that AND what system is that playing on. That's where Microsoft will win. All the games that are on Multiplatform consoles everybody will want to play on the Xbox Scorpio because it will be the BEST looking at the BEST framerate. No other company cant compete ALREADY with Microsofts impressive Xbox Live Online Support and their continuous monthly home screen updates. So all they need is more Exclusives which Phil said takes time come PLUS I know Phil has a couple of exclusive games already in his back pocket but can't talk about them or reveal them as of yet but that's for E3. he really positioned Microsoft for success after only 3 years....especially after the Don Mattrick debacle microsoft could've easily been dead in the water but they are slowly but surely climbing their way up.

Honestly I have nothing but respect for Phil spencer he answers fans questions on twitter and has done a terrific job with the Xboxone it will be great to see where he takes the Xboxone platform in the future also if the have the Scorpio running with the oculus will be amazing

I skipped out on xbox this gen because of how they rolled out the xbone. But with Phil there it seems like they are doing much better things. I appreciate his honesty and openness. The first party studio shutdowns are worrisome though.
He's doing a great job. Last E3 there was nothing to be excited about because of all the leaks when it came to the big 3.Phil is doing a great job making sure that doesn't happen with them this time around giving gamers a reason to be excited for E3 this year.
Great interview, can't wait for E3. I hope they convince me why I should buy a Scorpio instead of buying an equivalent PC I can upgrade over time. I do hope there's Scorpio exclusives somewhat.
Matt B I like these build a PC comments. Theres no PC you can build that will do what Scorpio can on a budget. Lets say its running games at native 4K/30 or 60fps in some games. you're looking at a pricey rig equivalent. optimization will probably be better on Scorpio too. Just looking at what PS4 Pro was able to do with HZD...I cant wait to see what Scorpio is doing. Phil even said he felt confident that it will be better than whats in the market now..amd he already saw HZD.

I'm not into Xbox, but I'm here for Phil Spencer. Such a great guy.
He is indeed a representation of everything Xbox really is. Huge progress since Xbox One launched, a hard to fix start he actually managed to fix, constant new features being added over and over, great ideas for Xbox Live services. Even though the console itself maybe a little weaker than PS4 and the exclusives are not really Xbox's strongest thing, I believe that after Scropio's release, exclusive games will be the only thing to come eventually, while, let's be honest, Sony has nothing more than good exclusives. The quality of Sony's services (PSN, PS+) are nowhere near the services currently offered by Microsoft. Microsoft only lacks great and innovative exclusive games while Sony has nothing but this. Even their new controller looks like Xbox's one haha :D

MrVader75 I also think this is a strategic move for the casual gamer, the undecided gamer, and the consumers who want to buy a new system as a gift this holiday season that doesn't know anything about games. All 3 examples of consumers will come to a video game store and will have to decide between a Nintendo Switch, a PS4/Pro or an Xbox 1S/Scorpio. Nintendo Switch you can take around with you. Sony PS4/Pro has more exclusives. But on all these video game demo screens will be the scorpio versions of....let's say FIFA 18, NBA2K18, the Next CALL OF DUTY, DESTINY 2, the next BATTLEFIELD, READ DEAD REDEMPTION, STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT 2. The consumer is going to ask what game is that AND what system is that playing on. That's where Microsoft will win. All the games that are on Multiplatform consoles everybody will want to play on the Xbox Scorpio because it will be the BEST looking at the BEST framerate. No other company cant compete ALREADY with Microsofts impressive Xbox Live Online Support and their continuous monthly home screen updates. So all they need is more Exclusives which Phil said takes time come PLUS I know Phil has a couple of exclusive games already in his back pocket but can't talk about them or reveal them as of yet but that's for E3. he really positioned Microsoft for success after only 3 years....especially after the Don Mattrick debacle microsoft could've easily been dead in the water but they are slowly but surely climbing their way up.
