I would say, that every intellectual person knows, that the Russians aren´t to blame. I often wonder, how we people - different nations - can support Russians to get rid of the Kremlin orcs. I imagine a future, where we all together (with Russians!!!) rebuilt the Ukraine. Feel free to call me a dreamer. I wish, we all would start a movement. The "special peace operation" :-) Greets from Germany.

The young have experienced less propaganda (over less time) and also usually have some other means of accessing western news - so while still subject to those accumulated messages - they at least know they are being lied to by their government & media right now... Of course they still need to be circumspect in what they say here...

Yes, there are reasonable and decent human beings in Russia, however there's numerous problems:
      1. They are a minority...as smart people always are in every country.
      2. The majority is uneducated and full of frustration = easy pray for propaganda = brain washed
      3. All of them have been "apoliticized" for all of their lives. Those who'd like to change things, are too afraid or demoralized already.
So as much as I hope that these folks will make a change when it's needed most, I'm pretty sure they will just apathetically watch everything go to sh*t.

Especially this phrase: "violence never seems to solve problems. It makes them worse, more complicated".

What's tragic now is that most of these conscripts are not needed to win the war, but rather to test the will power of the West. Now it will become a war of attrition and will power. Putin is hoping to hold the territory, sacrificing these conscripts hoping that the West will lose the collective will to continue. The coming winter will be Napoleonic for Europe.

You can scare people for a time by fabricating an external enemy like Ukranian Nazis or Nato. Eventually however people will get tired of being scared of NATO and they'll be more concerned with why there is no hot water in their house and that their pension isn't enough to live on.

Being from Russia and having relatives on both sides of the conflict is, really hard. Sadly, I have relatives that are Azov and multiple in Russian Army. I live in the States now and am upset that both my brother and sister are dead because of this conflict. I really hope people realize Russians are not bad people neither, are Ukrainians. Maybe, different ideology and views but we are all people. Ukraine has been separate from Russia for thirty year and earned their independence. This Operation has killed many good people on both sides. This Operation became personal when my sister and brother died. Forgive me for my English, but I hope people understand I have no ill feeling towards anyone. Enough blood has been spilled on our soils. If old men running the country and world would fight their own wars there wouldn't be any. Why did my brother have to fight in conflict that he wanted no part of, or my sister who was victim from moving to Ukraine for work? This is war, not Operation. Regime needs to absolve.

It is a beautiful question, because a special operation in Finland or Sweden is purely speculative and, as such, not such a sensitive topic. That said, nearly all of us can "hear" the interviewees thoughts as they recognize the similar absurdity of a fictitious special operation in Finland or Sweden and the abhorrent reality of the special operation in Ukraine.

I know. However, nobody knows what's in Putin's mind. He kept lying with straight face, several times, about his careful plan to invade and re-colonize Ukraine. So, nothing he would decide to do can astonish the world. And as I found out from a Russian, it's practically almost impossible to get away with being excused from army if you are younger than 27 (if I remember well), or if you are not married with children. If war is declared, everybody, married or not, younger or older than 27, even those with medical conditions are going to be drafted. I only hope Putin won't do anything stupid, and he'd realize that war with Ukraine was a huge mistake. He's a bad chess player, and a bad leader. To take such serious decisions on emotions and instincts, is a no-no for a leader who respect himself.

I have read that both Finland and Sweden are providing humanitarian aid and weapons to Ukraine, but I don't know how much, and I don't know how far they would go, if the conflict in Ukraine escalates. It's also an intriguing idea to consider if Finland and/or Sweden would engage directly to defend a NATO country before they actually join NATO. It remains to be seen (but actually I hope never to find out), if NATO or CSTO would really react in unity if under attack by a serious opponent.

I’m a Finn and have some Russian friends. Our relationship hasn’t changed. As we could see in this interview, there are some stupid ones, some afraid ones and some very understanding ones. As in all countries. The problem is never the people. It’s always bad leadership.
The Russian people has been misled and frankly lied to in decades. If you live in a country that feed you this propaganda year after year, it’s obvious it will affect your believes. Those fortunate to have internet and a possibility to search different news from around the world will know better.
That’s a reminder to all of us. Never trust your own countries news as the absolute truth. That goes for me too. First guy says if necessary, so in that scenario Finland or Sweden (idk what Sweden’s gonna do🤷🏽‍♂️) did something to warrant military action. Now of course, I can’t guarantee you what this guy considers “necessary” to be reasonable, but also you can’t tell anyone that what he considers necessary is inadequate and would result in reason-less military action.
There are always two options in a dispute, compromise or takeover. One is done by talking and negotiating, the other is done by killing and controlling. When two stubborn parties collide, the violent way is bound to rule. So I’d say you’re right about ignorance, greed and lack of empathy being the cause of most violent action, but claiming it to be intolerable is very idealistic to say the least.

Also, Finland would never start a feud with Russia. If there ever was fighting on finnish soil again, it would be out of fear and ignorance. And not through Finland's actions.

Because they don't recognize it as *their* government.
Deep down they regard it as an occupational forces. A foreign entity, a terrorist group that has forcefully taken the power and holds the entire country hostage.
Even those who go out of their way to support every initiative of the government - I feel that they want to serve, to be useful to the power that can crush them in one go.
When you're taken hostage, you do everything that the terrorist says, just to stay alive. When your country is under the foreign rule, you cooperate with the occupants, just to save yourself and your family.
