The London based finance sector is the beating heart of the UK economy. British politicians negotiated away our manufacturing and fishing industries in favour of the UK's banking finance sector.
If you think about it, with the EU having negotiated zero tariffs with china & japan, then it makes good financial sense to make the full car in china or japan and export it to the EU. It would make bigger profits with lower wages, all components made and assembled in china or japan and shipped in one go as it were. Less shipping costs, less wages. No this is good financial sense, they pulled a blinder over the EU.
a) the EU has no FTA and no zero tariffs with China b) the UK could have vetoed the FTA with Japan So, what was your point? Now with the UK out of Europe it will be far easier to find an agreement for a EU-China FTA. Pushing the UK even further away... Which product can i get from the UK (private citizen in the EU) that is cheaper and better than something from Japan or China when the UK does no longer have the protection of the EU? Just a simple example. The local food discounter i use most (ALDI actually) does have regular 'nation (region) weeks'. They offer special things from Italy, South America, the US, Greece or the UK and so on. Last time they had a 'UK week' i had a good look because it has been in the last Brexit development already. From the 15-20 products on offer 75% were made in Germany 'following traditional British recipes' (I love the _British_ bitter marmalade and the _British_ beans in tomato sauce. Made in Germany.) Most of the rest was made in Eastern Europe. The only products that came really from the UK were Gin and small bunches of daffodils. Without the EU protection fresh flowers from the UK will not stand a chance (similar to fresh flowers from the Netherlands in the UK) and Gin? After Brexit hundreds of EU companies will sell original, traditional British Gin for a far better price. Again - Freddy: which product can i get from the UK that is cheaper and better than something made in Europe or any region of the world linked to Europe by a free trade agreement?
Ford Prefect The negotiations with Japan started 6 years ago. The final agreement was finished in summer 2018. there was enough time for the UK to veto the whole deal. Multiple companies, European and Japanese have been announcing de-investments for quite some time now. Next to Nissan and Honda announcing they will close down or not open already planned plants, Sony, Panasonic and Hitachi announced their plans to decrease their business in the UK. That doesn’t mean they will all move back to Japan, since Nissan for example is just heavily investing in Spain instead of the UK. Same goes for EU companies that already announced it will move operations away from the UK or at least redirect future investments to other countries. This should be especially hurtful for all BMW employees (including Mini, Rolls Royce etc.). Of course they will never blame it on Brexit and lose 52% of Potential British customers. But it’s a very strange coincidence that all happened right after the deadline was reached about a year ago, when businesses wanted to know where the Brexit was going to plan the future.
And Kia and Hyundai produce cars in EU cheaper than in Japan and good hard working labour and guaranteed future. They are main competitors to Honda and sales are raising. Chinese are the future competitors same as Koreans 10 years ago.
19 minutes. I've watched it. Seems Mr. Corbyn is a nice fellow. It would be so great to see (from outside the UK) someone who could offer an alternative to the strange government politics. Mr. Corbyn didn't deliver. Nice platitudes and sentences which leave more open questions than answers.
Jeremy corbyn the reason for Honda closing its doors have nothing to do with the brexit the Japanese owners of Honda have already given reasons for this closure
Why alienate the millions of potential customers who voted for brexit? I consider it naive to think that all of these companies are suddenly upping sticks and moving away within months of britain making a total hash of brexit.
I’d like to know where he gets his money from to pay for everything he mentioned. We’ll end up like Greece at this rate. If you ask large businesses to pay more corporate tax you’ll have even more companies leaving the uk. If Brexit Dyson isn’t prepared to put his money where his mouth is why should anyone else. Idealistic naivety.

With Japanese people.. you need to read between the lines. The problem is Japanese will NEVER EVER attack people directly or create a bad image. They want to keep the customers. They will never say it has to do with Brexit, even it has. You should really read into how Japanese society is and how they do business and how they deal with politics. We can even do the simple math. No-deal brexit + Japan Deal with EU = build cars in Japan = more profit. The end.
manchester was a city full of engineers, so was crewe, sheffield, bolton, the list is endless, from train builders to buses, to cars, pumps, bridges, half of these young kids cant add up, and that's why you put your head into politics, there was nothing out there for you, and this national bank system, well i suppose you got to create some parasitic work, for all those eu members when it crashes. honda is going because the pots run out, i say go but your not selling us your cars no way, your not coming in through the back door. i think its all a bit to late mr jobsworth.
Just like anybody except 52% of the UK Honda is betting against the British market. The economy will be going south very quickly. Do you really think there will be that much money to earn in a struggling economy. And even if you could sell your cars there. There is no reason Brits would buy any fewer Hondas now. They are pulling out just like almost any other manufacturer. Nissan, BMW, VW...all are stopping their Investments for now or even go as far as to close plants. What is the alternative? Are there any real British cars left? The industry dropped 20% in the past 10 years. Do you really think anybody is coming back to an isolated UK with no trade deals when 50% of all UK produces cars were exported?

Correct.
The explanation in Japan itself is Brexit and the new trade deal with the EU.
