Absolutely killer video. Trying to make a video with a genie and this is the most helpful tutorial I've seen on the subject. Went from zero AE knowledge to making genie tails in one night..haha! Much appreciated!!
My vector blur doesn't have a composite options when I double click on it at 5:06. Has something changed? Edit: I see in a previous comment it was added in CC and I am running cs6 still... Damn.
2:38 under physics there isn't an Air category only Bounce Meander Flocking and Fluid, this is likely because I'm using the latest version of particular but anyone does know the corresponding step to adding the air resistance?
Damn, you're good. I watched Red Giant's 5 part series and ended up with awful looking particles on all of them. They seemed to skip over important steps, but you.. you. Love your personality, enthusiasm for creating and feel like you do a wonderful job explaining and keeping us in the loop. It's the exact opposite experience watching you, because I appreciate the corrections you provided to make sure the effect I create looks very similar to yours. And it does, which is awesome. Thanks a lot, new subscriber here for sure.
That was great. Clear and concise and pretty easy to follow. I did keep pausing the video though, had to make sure I got it right. Loved the main effect, would love to turn it into a text that flows in and out, but not with it revealing the text, but becoming the text itself. And also be able to turn it into a smoke effect. Now where is part two?
Would I be able to take this and attach a null in order to make it follow a path? I want to make it more like a comet type object for a project. Do you think that is possible?
Really enjoyed the approach to fluidity with particular!! Very helpful indeed. I have a much better understanding of the capabilities of Particular now. Very well done and thank you for sharing!! And yes,.. I did subscribe, lol.
I usually do not comment. Very few of the many people that put out tutorials (or what nots) are truly worth the effort to revisit. You are one of only (now) 8 that I have subscribed to. Note that those 8 are in several fields/programs of expertise. Please continue. Big smiles.
You must not have an updated version of After Effects. I noticed this is a common issue people have and it's because they have an old version of AE. Usually, what you can do is just apply the effect to an adjustment layer and turn down the opacity of the adjustment layer.
I am not get though I typing up particular and I am seeing this cc particular system II , particular world and particular playground what did you effect you use? please help. my version is adobe creative cloud 2015.
it's an easy to miss mistake, i had the same issue. The emitter size firstly has changed and has new features. When you change the particles to velocity, you'll see a box called "xyz linked" change that to xyz individual. Then it starts the particles on each individual at '500' Not 50. Change the emitter z to 0, then emitter size x and y to 50 (just take out a zero on each) and voilà . Problem solved :). Hope this helps!
Hey, i considered using this effect in one of my projects but realized it keeps its black background as i import it into another picture, anyway to fix this so its just the effect, per say make the black transparent?
Well you can set the blending mode of the particle layer to screen. But if you want there to be transparency in the final result, then that is a bigger problem... Try putting a white solid under the particle layer, then set the white solid track matte to "Luma Matte". Then pre-compose those two layers. The only problem now will be the colorization. The only way I know of to color transparent data is to use the plug-in: Trapcode Shine. All other effects that I know of in AE only colorize based on lightness rather than transparency. Hopefully you have that plug-in. If you don't, I haven't found a solution to this yet.
Sorry man, you have a too early version of After Effects. You will have to add you effects to an adjustment layer then mask or change the opacity of the adjustment layer.
No leave particular on the solid layer. Only the adjustments need to go on the adjustment layer. Only vector blur and other look adjustments that need to be masked. You see, the point in doing this is so that you can just add a regular mask to your adjustment layer, hence masking the effect that is on the adjustment layer.
Thank you so much! I experimented with mine a little differently and got a similar result to yours. This effect is perfect for the video I have planned.
Is a way, but what I want is a cigarette smoke to move along a spline, so the emitter should stay stationary, meaning the smoke is emitted in one point and flows along the spline. Thank you anyway for answering.
This is cool, and it was funny to see how excited you got when it started to look nice, but good god these Particular render times for one little ball are upsetting. With what you did here, it would be great to use it for some longer and more in depth effects, but more particles and more copies = even higher render times. Great tutorial none the less. I can't blame you for a plugins limitations or my own CPU's.
Yes! Hopefully I will be able to make time for it soon! I am very busy working on a film that we are rushed to finish so my crew wants needs as much of my time as possible but I know you guys are waiting on me too so I will find time there as well! :) By the way, here is a trailer for the film: th-cam.com/video/NfPD8rtMv7s/w-d-xo.html
Visionary Fire I get you. AE is easier to turn around, but the point of fluid dynamics to to dynamically interact with the environment. Like having a splash push a photo into a scene and run down the front of the picture. It’s interacting with the environment. You’d need multiple floors to bounce off of and a surface for the particles to run down. Without interaction, it’s used are far more limited. Doing something like that would be really useful as an AE tutorial. Doesn’t have to be photo real just gets the point across without having to hand animate the fluid motion.
Wow that's great! Thank you for that! When does the part 2 come out? The part about colorizing this fluid. I will definetely recomend this channel to my friends! :)
It will come out as soon as possible but I am very busy working on a film. You can actually see the trailer for the film here: th-cam.com/video/NfPD8rtMv7s/w-d-xo.html

There are advantages to 16 by 9 as it is more common but there are also advantages to 4:3 If you go 16:9 there is a lot of wasted space. 4:3 helps compact all the action together so you can zoom in. Also if people are following the tutorial it is annoying if the tutorial needlessly occupies the majority of your screen forcing you to zoom out and not being able to see as easily. Also 4:3 reduces the file size and allows easier playback. But yes there are also advantages to 16:9 as it fills most monitors while in full screen. Right now the monitor I have is 1280 by 1080 but I record in 1280 by 960 which perfectly fits the software. Sorry that I am not able to capture in 1920 by 1080 but I don't have the resources right now.
dude, your tutorials are my favorite. i am learning a ton, massive thanks brother
This guy has a god level of After effects knowledge :)
i Like that you reply to people it shows you care. Im sharing all your videos Keep up the great work!

I really wanna thank you for your vids. I used this in combination with a particle system on a sprite of evolving smoke and it looks so good. Thanks!
5:53 thats what she said
Thank you for an amazing tutorial, really helped a lot. I will never forget the skills I have learned today.
Awesome! It's good to have people like you watching these tutorials!!!
why is there an exclamation mark beside the effects in the list? Thanks.
Just means it doesn't support 32 bit color depth, don't worry about it
@@VisionaryFire Thank you. I tried looking it up and could not find an answer. Thanks again :)

2:38 under physics there isn't an Air category only Bounce Meander Flocking and Fluid, this is likely because I'm using the latest version of particular but anyone does know the corresponding step to adding the air resistance?
My guess is air density which is in environment
Wonderful teaching and relatability! Thank you
Thanks I'm happy to answer any questions.
Please help, I made smoke that I want to fill the screen in the end, how do I "trap" the particles in the boundaries of the screen/area?
Draw a mask and use a separate element for the smoke that bounces from the edge of the screen/area.
Hey very nice nice...I like you present severals ways to do somethings. THANKS

at 05:10 you have in CC Vector Blur to Compositing Options. Do you know why i dont have that option? I'm using CS6
All CC effect is available with Adobe CC version only. Upgrade your software to use this effect.
I have cc but I still having the same problem..
Which version of after effect are you using right now? harshraje sawant
after effect CC
harshraje sawant maybe you should ask your problem in Adobe help management
THIS IS WHAT I NEEDED OMGGGGGGGG

Hi, great tutorial. thanks.
There is a way to emmit particles from a another form ? Not just one point but from a hole surfface.
i can't find emitter in particle world effect (ae2021)
I am not get though I typing up particular and I am seeing this cc particular system II , particular world and particular playground what did you effect you use? please help. my version is adobe creative cloud 2015.
Particular is a paid 3rd party plug-ing.
thanks for the advice . i have to pay for it cool. bless
I really love this tut..thanks so much mate!!
Can you export it out as a gif or with a transparent background?
Search unmult in your Effects&Presets window for transparency.. Render out as a video and use online gif converter
Thanks for taking the time to make this for skrubs like us
Cool, no problem!
Try using Reelsmart Shade/Shape if you have it.
brilliant tutorial
Thanks for leaving a comment!
Thank for great tutorial!
when i change emitter type to sphere, it just spreads eveywhere, not your uniform shape
Make sure the velocity is at 0
You have to change the Emitter Size to "XYZ Individual" and reset them to what's shown in the video
it's an easy to miss mistake, i had the same issue. The emitter size firstly has changed and has new features. is there anyway to make this move with a mask? Like a swirl shape changing the position?

remove the bg and render avi alpha mode
hi, can i use this plugin to add in my logo animation. im just new in animation so i wanna know.
Of course!
Thanks man, whats the song?
5:11 My compositing effect is missing. I can't adjust my effect opacity
Sorry man, you have a too early version of After Effects. You will have to add you effects to an adjustment layer then mask or change the opacity of the adjustment layer.
When you say the copy the effects to the adjustment layer, do you mean copy both the Particular AND Vector Blur effects to the adjustment layer?

Sometimes you have to refresh the plugin by restarting AE or clicking one of the buttons at the very top of the plugin beside the plugin title
@@VisionaryFire thank you so muchhh 🥺❤️❤️

buy it
how can I make that fluid to flow along a path?
I suppose you could just animate the particular emitter point position.

You can go to the world transform settings on particular if that is what you mean.
i do not have particular. where i have there?
Particular is a third party plugin which does not come with after effects. You have to either purchase it or download from somewhere:)
somewhere ;)

what if you wanna place this effect on..say an arm....to make a superhero effect....can you help me with that?...i hope you get my question

What about Blender? It’s fluids are awesome and pretty easy.
Definitely an option if you are already good with blender. I try to do everything in After Effects when possible to make the workflow more efficient.
